Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Ireland

Hey all.

I'm an Irishman currently living in America under a K1 Visa.

I married my lovely wife on March 17th this year, and was just wondering about what happens next?

We have the I-485 Adjustment Of Status forms, the Social Security forms, an Advanced Parole form, and the EAD all ready to be sent, but we're wondering what the process is? I presume I'll need to get my Social Security Number before the other forms can be sent???

Also: As soon as my I-485 form is filed, does this mean I can stay here beyond my 90 days?

As it stands my visa is set to expire on June 13th.

Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Your visa expired the moment you used it to enter the country. The date to go by is on the I-94.

How much time do you have left on that? Because you can't apply for your SSN if it is within two weeks of expiring. You can definitely file the I-485 et al prior to receiving your SSN.

I was able to get ssn after getting married - I got married a week after arriving in the USA on a K1 and i was told to give it 2 weeks so that the paperwork they took from me at POE could be in system before applying for a SSN - which i did and it all went fine.

Good luck ...

Oh thank the Lord, I was getting worried there!

Well we're sending off the AOS forms and all of that this week.

As soon as that's filed I assume I'm ok to stay in America?

You're okay to stay even before that's filed. You came here, legally, on a K-1 visa, and have fulfilled the terms of that visa. Actually, I just assume you have..... you have no timeline for me to go by. ;)
