Port of entry through miami was kinda freaking me out for other friends experience.. Now for me it was pretty different... it took me only 5 minutes to get my papers processed! the guy who processed my case was kind of rude and asked a bunch of questions but whatever I am happy it was quick!.. make sure you have your brown envelope in hand before going to the official and also try to schedule your flight in a not busy day since miami airport is usually pretty busy!.. i arrived in miami on a monday at 10 30 pm.. and I think it wasnt so busy.. anyway good luck to everyone else |

Went to PAC Highway crossing in BC, based on my Lawyers advice. Sumas and Lynden crossings have a rep for being "rogue" borders that don't know what they are doing. This was true to my experience when I was harrassed and mistreated by an immigration officer at Sumas when authorizing a simple student visa a few years back.
The lady processing my case was very professional. It took her about 45 minutes just with my case, but I could tell she was double checking everything and making sure to do it right. So I was happy with that. She also didn't charge me anything to import my car since it was originally from the states. I shook her hand and had a big smile when it was all done and thanked her for her time. I got her to crack a smile, even though she was putting on a very serious look throughout the process :)
The only thing I was annoyed with was that they told us there were no public bathrooms. This poor five year old next to me kept saying she had to go to the bathroom and they wouldn't let anybody go. However, when I was done my fingerprinting the lady said that there was actually a bathroom around the corner that I could use to wash the ink off my hand. I thought it was very inhumane that they had a bathroom available but wouldn't let anybody use it. |

We went to Massena Ny border(Seaway International bridge).
I drove with My friend and her son as he wanted to go get some clothing across the border.
I got to the border at about 1230pm, told the border people that we needed to activate/process Our visas. We were asked whether we had anything to declare, firearms etc and where I was moving and with whom. We were told to park in between spots 1-2 and go inside. Inside we waited about 10 minutes. Then a lady called me up and I was asked for the packets and told to sit back down. Another 15 minutes and we were fingerprinted and I signed some paperwork (they even fingerprinted my 4 year old son ha ha) I was told to go sit down again and I watched the lady. I saw that the lady was stamping our passports and then noticed she was going off a checklist However she put the wrong stamp and somehow had to erase it and stamp it again (not sure how she did this) The stamp for a ir and a cr are alittle different from what I saw a Ir stamp goes across the visa and the cr goes more at the top and its just a little stamp with the date and a Cr-1 wrote on it. Anyways another 20 minutes from the fingerprints and she called me back up and asked if the address was correct I said yes, she told me the greencard should be at the address within 3 months if not to call CIS. I asked about moving my stuff the next day and she said we shouldn't have any problems as I was now a resident
All in all she was a nice, and fairly new to the process.Actually everyone at that border was very nice, smart and professional. She gave my son candy and seemed to like the conversation. The whole process was 45 minutes.
The next day we had no problems going through the Thousand island border with all my stuff, we were asked the usual questions about tabacco, liquir, and firearms, then asked what I was taking with me, I replied personal belongings and the Guy said have a great day. That was it very super easy and very professional again. |
