My Fiance and I made her POE together at Chicago O'Hare Airport on April 24th. We went to the Foreign Visitor Visa line at Customs/Immigration (I went with her despite having a US Passport). My Fiance is originally from the Philippines and the officer happened to be a Filipino born/raised immigrant, how ironic! As soon as she handed her Pilipinas passport over to him, he spoke to her in Tagalog. Apparently his first question was "Who's this guy standing next to you?", which she responded "My Fiance", he asked how we met (in Tagalog language) and how long we've known each other. The officer was very nice and even cracked a few jokes at me -- asking if I ever tried "Balut" when I was in the Philippines, then he yelled over to another officer "Hey Rodriguez! This American guy tried the Balut! I told you man it's not that bad!". All of the officers at O'hare seemed very nice, looking at their interactions with other foreigners. He then asked for her sealed packet from the embassy. He opened it in front of us, and we saw all of our application paperwork (original approved I-129F, many other documents we had submitted with our application, some other documents from the embassy). He asked a few basic questions of...where we met, how we met, why was my Fiance in Canada for so many years (work visa), what did she do there. He did ask what she plans to do for work here in the US. He asked where we will be living. Gave him the address. He said he just needed it because they forward it to the nearest customs office, where they will retain our paperwork / record keeping purposes. After that he stamped a few things on our paperwork and lastly her passport and said we were good to go.
Total time for everything was maybe 10 minutes? Very nice stress-free experience overall. All in all we are so happy this whole process is over and we are FINALLY together! Wahoooo!!!! |

POE at O'Hare Int'l Airport in Chicago yesterday - no questions asked by CBP! Very smooth entry to UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Itinerary:
Cebu-Shanghai China (delayed for 1 hr and 20 minutes on China Eastern Airlines)
Shanghai-O'Hare Int'l Airport ( China Eastern made a new arrangement on our flight since we didn't catch our original flight going to San Francisco which was supposed to be our POE, so, if you missed your flight, you don't have to worry cos airline will take care of that with no charge at all)
Chicago-Austin (very smooth process in getting our baggage) |
