Review Topic: K1 Visa

Arrived at the embassy at 8:10 am and the security allowed me to go in. I also met another K-1 filer with the same appointment time who was allowed to go in at 07:50am.

Upon entering, you will be queueing with other visa applicants. There’s a lot of waiting and not enough chairs so come prepared with your comfortable shoes.

0840 am - Initial Check
A representative will take all the required documents on the checklist from you to prepare it for the Consular Officer during interview. Just go by everything on the list provided by the embassy.

They also took my passport and stamped my valid tourist visa with CWOP (Cancelled Without Prejudice). This actually broke my heart a little but he assured me that he had to do that because I am now applying for a different type of visa.

1030 am - Consular interview

Questions asked:
-How did you meet your fiancé?
-What does he do for a living?
-How many people are in their household?
-Have you any wedding plans so far?
-How many times have you been to the United States?
-How long was your longest stay in the United States?

Received a 221-g slip because we missed one part of the i-134 Form. We sent the required documents on the same day via express delivery as soon as I got out of the embassy. It was delivered as per courier the following day.

25 May 2023 - Approved (as per CEAC) 🥹
26 May 2023 - Issued (as per CEAC) 💕

30 May 2023 - ✨Visa on Hand ✨

***
If you have any additional documents that need to be sent to the embassy, you have the option to send them via DPD Courier (free of charge) or we used the AnPost express delivery service. It's the same really and if it's only to send a few documents you can have them printed right away in Dublin City if you live far from the area.

The consular officers were really nice. Even when I got the 221-G slip, he explained to me thoroughly what I have to do in order to get it sorted right away.

Appointment at 0745hrs but got in around 0815hrs
Be weather ready!! No shaded area outside embassy if it rains
Airport-like security upon checking in
**SECURITY WILL CHECK PHOTOS. IF ITS NOT THE PROPER ONE, THEY WILL SEND YOU TO THE NEAREST SHOP THAT HAS A PHOTO SERVICES**
Do not bring any laptop. Security box fits only for a phone.
After security, I headed for another queue inside the embassy
After 20 min wait, I was called to submit documents and finger prints taken
>original police cert- MAKE SURE ALL NAMES IN PASSPORT ARE INCLUDED. Other applicants had to be told that day to get a new police cert which will delay processing
>original marriage cert
>original birth cert
>2X2 PHOTOS- one applicant goy through security but was sent off by the lady checking the documents coz he has an old photo. MAKE SURE PHOTOS ARE LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD. Got my photos taken again a month before interview to be sure.

I was not asked to submit I864 form

Asked to wait again for the interview
There's less than 10 chairs available so most applicants are standing for minutes to hours
You'll have chair if you have an earlier appointment

Interview lasted less than 10 minutes.
Questions:
where and how did you meet your spouse?
when was the wedding?
how did u decide where to get married?
Are you familiar with your rights as a US citizen spouse? What to do if there's abuse?
Are you working right now?
What's your spouse's work?

I had medical exam very close to the interview so results are still pending. Consul didn't give any form to fill in but just said all is good.

Appointment went smoothly. Spent 1hr 30 min in total inside.

Waiting took forever. Reviews are spot on. Definitely depends on who you get on what they ask for.

Oddly, we were specifically requested -printed- photos of us together. So it just really depends on your officer/reviewer person.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I have to say, I had a very poor experience going for my K1 interview here.

I was scheduled for 1pm - Arrived at 12:45 and everything went smoothly as other reviewers have mentioned. No electronics can be brought in, have to go through metal detectors, and so on.

Got in to the actual waiting area which is a large room with some seating - interviews were to the right and other issues (mainly for US citizens, it seemed) were to the left. I went right and waited in a queue. There were two interviews in front of me.

It was very inefficient. My interview was due to take place at 1pm, as I said, but didn't actually take place until about 3pm. There is nothing to entertain yourself with for the hours that you'll be there, which is a shame, but not that bad in the grand scheme of things. The interviews take place at a window, similar to a bank, and you can hear pretty much everything that's said between the Immigration Officer and the person they are interviewing.

I eventually get called to the window and the Officer asks some basic questions (name, name of my fiancée, where we met). I answer all of them normally but am almost immediately met with hostility from the Officer - he literally said to me "this is a serious situation and I need you to give me serious answers. I can cancel this whole application right now". I was completely taken aback because I was being entirely truthful and taking the interview very seriously (and have been with my fiancée for 7+ years, had been waiting over a year for this interview, and had spent several thousand euro on this process...).

The rest of the interview proceeded pretty much in that tone. The Officer questioned my relationship repeatedly, even at one point getting personal, saying that "maybe I just don't care about her [my fiancée]" because "she had moved to Ireland just to be with me" (she hadn't, and he knew that) and I "wasn't bothered" going to her country until 7 years into our relationship.

He kept repeating "make it make sense to me because this situation doesn't make sense"... For context, we provided a huge amount of evidence with our I-129f application to prove our 7+ year relationship, this isn't some "we met on Tinder last week" situation. He then abruptly ended the interview saying that I hadn't provided the correct type of police certificate so he couldn't approve the K1 now anyway.

As I was gathering my papers to start walking away, he asked a further question about my parents and where they lived - I told him where my mother lived and he asked "and your dad lives with her?" and I had to say "no, he's deceased"... I could see him looking at the section of the form where I had written that as he was asking - the question was irrelevant because he wasn't proceeding with interview anyway AND he already knew the answer. It felt like he wanted to get one last cheap shot in before I left.

Anyway, easily one of the rudest experiences I've ever had in my life. I don't know what was wrong with the guy or why he decided to pick on me (the two people who went ahead of me were not treated anywhere near as harshly). I sent in the correct type of police certificate the next day and the K1 was approved a week later. Now happily living in the USA, married and going through the AOS process, but I will never forget how utterly hostile the Officer was and how embarrassing it was to be receiving end of his attitude and not to be able to tell him to go f*** himself.

We had to reschedule our interview due to circumstances. Embassy was very accomodating and were able to reschedule, date given suited us and was the best available for the given timeline. Interview process 2nd time around lasted 1hr and was very straight forward.
