Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband went for his interview at the embassy in Madrid this past Wednesday. He had taken his phone for navigation and turned it in at the door and received a ticket. He said he waited about an hour to be called and turned in his documents to a woman- including our marriage certificate, his police certificate from Spain and his birth certificate and translations. He waited about a half hour to be called back by a man to do the interview with. The man asked how we met but then continually asked my husband about his field of education and his masters. He was in the interview for at least a half hour- he said the man kept circling back to questions about his masters, education and work experience. My husband wanted to show the photos and other documents about our relationship and about the hardship of us being apart but the man did not look at any of our other evidence. My husband could not tell if the man was very confused or if he was trying to trick my husband with some of the quest... read complete review

Everyone at the embassy was really nice! First I was called to a window where I had to hand over the envelope with the results of the medical exam and then I was called to another window where the interview was done.
I was asked a few questions about my relationship and then the lady said it was approved and that I should get my visa within a week and a half.

I went half an hour earlier and was let in. Then I went through a metal scanner, and they kept my phone. Then another person asked for my Passport and a photo. I gave them to her, she got me a waiting number and guided me to a waiting room. It looked almost like a bank in the inside. Everyone was super nice to me. I waited about 10or 15min.
My number was called and I was asked to give her my marriage certificate, birth certificate, my I864, my police certificates. They said they will check if they are the same as the ones I uploaded to NvC.
I let her know that I updated my police certificates because they were a year old (and in their guidelines it mentioned you should get another one if a year had passed). They said it was fine.
Then I let her know that when I filed my petition, my husband didn't have a job and we filled a I864a (my father in law cosponsored me) but that my husband had a job now and we had updated the I864 to show it. She looked through it and sai... read complete review

Relatively smooth process. My husband arrived a bit early for his appointment was out the door an hour and a half afternoon his appointment time. He did not bring a bag, just a folder for his documents. He said it took about an hour to be called up for his original documents to be reviewed by one of the Spanish staff members.

Shortly after that he was called up for the interview with the company an consul. He said she was very kind to him. She asked him about 5-6 questions about our relationship, how we met, etc. He made a lovey doves comment about how I am “adorable” and she stopped asking him questions after that. Haha

The visa was marked as issued and printed in CEAC the next day. Now we’re just waiting for t to Bebe ready for pickup at the post office.

The process was relatively easy, but get ready for some long lines. It took about 1h from the moment I got a number to when the number was called. You first go to a first window where you leave all the original documents (police reports, passport, photos, affidavit of support, etc.). Then they make you wait some more, and then in the second window is where the interview happens. My interview was very easy: 'Describe your relationship', and some very easy follow-up questions. After that, the consular officer said my case was approved, They kept my passport and 6 days after I got my passport on the mail with visa!
If you go to Madrid on the same day of the interview, and do not have a hotel where to leave your things, do NOT bring a backpack, they will not let you into the consulate with it. I had to go to Mercadona supermarket (Calle Serrano, 61) and leave it at the locker. Good luck!
