Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

So this was quite a nervous experience given that I had never been interviewed for a visa before in my life, but it went as routinely as I could've asked for, here's how it went:

I ended up heading out a bit early and got to the consulate an hour before my appointment to make sure I was familiar with the location and to my dismay Spousal Purgatory (Second Cup) opposite the consulate was closed due to an issue with their coffee machines! D: Undeterred, I went out in search of another coffee shop, and found Starbucks which closed in Feb...I finally found Joe's Panini which provided me a 'coffee' and much needed breakfast. After that, I made my return to the Consulate for 9:20am. The security guard came out at 9:30am and confirmed who I was and asked me the following:
-Have you been outside of Canada in the last 14 days*
-Do you have any symptoms of Covid?
-Have you been in close contact with someone who tested positive?

VISA APPROVED on July 23rd! Many thanks to everyone who helped me on this forum, I will be moving to California on Aug 10th (fingers crossed I get my passport back before then). Been very busy wrapping up so didn't get a chance to post here before, apologies!
My appointment was at 10:15am but being too keen I got there at 9:50am and was asked to come back at 10:15am. The security officer asked for my name and checked it off on the list he had. Thereafter, the security asked me to put my electronic devices in the small locker. I was then asked to take the elevator to the first floor and hand in my passport at Window 6. The office was mostly empty with one lady ahead of me in the line. After handing my passport at Window 6, I was asked to sit down and waited for my number to be called. After about 10 mins of waiting, I was called at another Window where they asked for the following documents:
1) Birth certificate (they didn't ask for petitioner's birth certificate, only min... read complete review

it went smooth. I was asked for marriage certificate, police certificate and birth certificate. Nothing else. During the interview portion I was asked the basic questions but when asked about if I’ve ever been turned around at the border I answered truthfully and said yes. Offered the paperwork I had for it. The interviewer was typing the whole time and got up and went to the printer and came back and said I’m sorry I have to refuse you until I can look into something. He said it shouldn’t take long and to watch for updates on ceac. About 5 hrs later my status changed from refused to issued. Such a relief.

Good experience overall - would encourage you to bring a book/magazine as the majority time is waiting, with no clock & nothing to look at! The room was a bit stuffy, so if coming during summer months, wear something lighter.

All the staff was pleasant and efficient.
