We were really apprehensive going into the interview as my visitors visa to the U.S. (I had an Indian passport at the time; now am a Canadian citizen) had been cancelled last year. Once at the Montreal consulate, we were given a token number, waited for our turn at the first window where a very courteous lady checked all our documents. I was fully prepared with everything - and had everything ready as she was was requesting them. Next, we were asked to wait again for our turn with the interview officer. When we were called, the officer asked my husband to leave, saying I must face him alone! My husband was very nervous, but I kept my cool. The officer only asked where I intended to live and the regular questions about if I'd ever been denied/deported from the States. I told him my visa had been cancelled because I hadn't started the Green Card process to which he said, happens all the time and told me I was approved! I couldn't believe how smoothly the whole experience (only interview)... read complete review

We got to the consulate a little before 8:30 for a 9:00 appointment. It was raining and the line had maybe 15 or so people in it. We were let inside around 8:45. Our number ended up being applicant 14. I'd read reviews saying not to get there earlier than 30 minutes before, but I think if you can, push for an hour. We waited about an hour or more for his number to be called. He went up to the window, took about 10 minutes with his documents. After that, it took maybe another 20 minutes for his interview. It was simple, less than five minutes, and he came out with a letter welcoming him to the US.
The consulate was fine and everyone was helpful. It did get very crowded in there by 11. The intercom is a little hard to hear and they won't repeat the message for another few minutes, so try to pay attention. Their vending machines also didn't have any water. They do have a play area for children with toys and books, so that's nice for anyone who can't get a babysitter. No el... read complete review

My interview date was June 22nd at 7:40AM. My fiancé drove up to be with me and we stayed in the Hyatt hotel, which was about a block away. It's expensive and personally I found it to be kind of meh for the price, but the one across the consulate was booked up! I highly recommend staying in a hotel near it for the night before your interview. We switched to a cheaper one (which is actually nicer, the Marriott Courtyard West Island) for the rest of our stay. We had breakfast at a place near the hotel, called Eggspectation, and it was really good. The waiter there knew we were going to the consulate as soon as we asked for the time.
We lined up at 7:00pm. There was one other person in front of us (then someone cut in line, but got turned away later as she needed to fill out paperwork) so we ended up being handed a small plastic sheet with a number two on it, it also held instructions of what the person would need at the counter. In the waiting line, the guard came by and... read complete review

I'm the US Petitoner and went with my foreign fiancé to the consulate.
So easy! Our interview was scheduled for 8am and we were out by 9:45am. The consulate was definitely not what was expected in the sense that everything looked so old-school. Nothing modern looking there. You're not allowed to bring any food or electronics. We left our phones in the car and only had our sunglasses, wallets, and documents.
The process was so smooth. They give you a number when you walk in the entrance. You then pass through the scanner/security and then go downstairs where you take an elevator to the 19th floor (if you forgot to get passport pictures, they have a little photobooth here where you can get them for $10). The elevator opens right into the waiting room. For K1 visas, you sit in the middle section under the "immigrant visa" sign. You wait a bit and then they will call you to the window. Not sure if they always operate like this but Window 1 collected document... read complete review

Found a hotel down the street called the hotel Faubourg. The wifi was useless, the TV didn't work properly, and Expedia screwed up our reservation, but we were able to get a decent nights sleep and they let us check out late.
After a short walk to the consulate we found the side door with the rope line. The queue was empty so we just showed our passports and appointment confirmation page to the door guard. We were only about 15 minutes early so they let us right in. After a security check and surrendering all our electronics they sent us up the elevator. There are three groupings of chairs. For the K1 they sent us to the middle group of chairs and told us to wait. Fast forward an hour and a half. They call my fiance's number and he goes to the window with the massive portfolio of documents we have collected over the last 7 months. We spent hours meticulously organizing and labeling everything. HUGE WASTE OF TIME. They wanted very few pieces of information and basically i... read complete review
