Found a hotel down the street called the hotel Faubourg. The wifi was useless, the TV didn't work properly, and Expedia screwed up our reservation, but we were able to get a decent nights sleep and they let us check out late.
After a short walk to the consulate we found the side door with the rope line. The queue was empty so we just showed our passports and appointment confirmation page to the door guard. We were only about 15 minutes early so they let us right in. After a security check and surrendering all our electronics they sent us up the elevator. There are three groupings of chairs. For the K1 they sent us to the middle group of chairs and told us to wait. Fast forward an hour and a half. They call my fiance's number and he goes to the window with the massive portfolio of documents we have collected over the last 7 months. We spent hours meticulously organizing and labeling everything. HUGE WASTE OF TIME. They wanted very few pieces of information and basically ignored everything else. We had phone records, hotel receipts, travel logs, and pictures for proof of ongoing relationship. They didn't even look at it. Very frustrating to have spent that much time and effort only to find out they want the basic forms. Anyway. After about 15 minutes at the window, he comes back with a sheet advising of domestic abuse resources and we wait another 30-45 minutes. He gets called to the window in the back, is gone for about 10 minutes, comes back with a big grin and a piece of paper welcoming him to the United States.
