Buy whatever is cheaper. However, if you buy a round trip ticket be SURE to cancel the return ticket after arriving in the US. There have been a couple of VJ members lately who were denied AOS because the immigration officer thought they'd used their return ticket to leave the US.

An embassy uses a "reasonable person standard" to see if the relationship makes sense and is legitimate and is not trying to circumvent immigration laws. Doing something that is against cultural norms sends off alarm bells in a CO's head.
Because it is not a normal thing to do in Vietnam, it sounds like you are just helping a family member out.
