They would be granted authorized stay until the I-485 was approved or denied.  "Authorized Stay" is not a legal status.  It prevents unlawful presence during that time.  They would be out of status, but authorized to stay in the US.   Have you considered how they are going to have health care?

No, just filing the I-130 wouldn't be enough. If you can't afford to file for them via AOS, maybe they return to their home country and do it via consular processing instead? It's much cheaper that way.

I agree with @appleblossom.  With form fees, medical exams, etc, it could cost $4000...for each of them. Filing an I-130 gives them no rights to stay in the US.  If money is a factor, it might be better for them to return home and wait for the consular process.

Intent was already decided at the border, so it's not an issue here, in my opinion.

Read the guides and adjust status.  Bear in mind that they won't be able to leave for some time, while their case is processing.

YOU don't do anything. It is HIM who has to apply. HE is the one that needs the visa, NOT YOU.

There is no sponsorship for visitor visas. But you can assist him with the process. Be careful though, if an America relative does too much for an applicant it can raise suspicion.

60-90 days for EAD/AP. Those adjusting from a K-1 do not always get an interview. Times vary depending on whether or not you get an interview and if you do, how backlogged your local USCIS office is.

When I submitted AOS packages, I divided the package in three, so I sent 3 packages in ONE envelope.
1 package for I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status,

1 package for I-765 Application for Employment Authorization 1 Package for I-131 Application for travel document Every package with the corresponding papers for each application, I put a paper clip in each one, so they were visible divided. I didn't mix any document together, so I sent one copy of our marriage certificate for each form (so three in total)

The following thread helped me a lot http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/235331-aos-ead-ap-from-k1-the-aussie-way-doc-list-included/
