  1. I think tolerance is a good thing
So, do you tolerate animal abuse? How about child abuse? How about politicians that disregard the law?

Oh...I see....so tolerance is not ALWAYS a good thing. You have to draw the line somewhere - right? Well, guess what - people draw that line in different places. There is nothing more or less wrong with where someone ELSE draws that line. You don't have any kind of holy or special position with your line. It's just arbitrary. It can be drawn anywhere. Claiming someone else is wrong or morally inferior in some way because they draw the line in a different place than you, now THAT'S ignorance.

  2. Women living with polygamists are just plain stupid if they don't respect themselves, so it's their problem as long as there are no children involved in their behavior.
One could say the same thing about gay people.

It's interesting that you will cast your judgment against one set of people who choose to live a particular sexual and personal lifestyle, but defend another.

What children have to do with it in any case is simply beyond me. MANY cultures around the world have plural marriage and their children are JUST fine. Please don't confuse plural marriage with child sexual abuse. That's as ridiculous as the comparison of homosexuals with paedophiles.

  3. I think these days homosexual and bisexual are normal.
I disagree. If they were "normal" - we would not be having this discussion. By no stretch of the imagination is it normal. If it were, people wouldn't make a big deal about "coming out" or getting access to marriage, etc. It's definitely not the norm. If you think that it is, well, nothing I can say will convince you otherwise - so I won't bother.

Being around those types of things will help them to be more tolerant when they're older and then they won't even have to have this debate that we're having.
But you're starting from the premise that this is a good thing. Not everyone agrees.
  4. Sorry, but I NEED to know: is that me, or American milk is... odd? I mean, it's like white ink, it doesn't look like milk, it's too thick, and it doesn't have any flavour and taste. My question is: am I crazy, or there's really a difference between European and American milk?
I dunno - I think drinking milk is absolutely disgusting.

But FWIW, the milk here looks the same as the milk in Russia or anywhere else I've been.

  5. He doesn't have any high education but does speak 4 languages. He doesn't want to go back to school for a long time or spend a lot of money. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for us? Some things we've considered are something in the medical field (like an ultrasound technician)
Are you insane? You need a lot of education to be an ultrasound technician.

Most individuals receive training in diagnostic medical sonography in one of the following ways:

    * Training in a hospital

    * Training from a vocational-technical institution

    * Training from a college or university offering a 2-year or 4-year program

    * Training in the armed forces

In order to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) you must have an associate's or bachelor's degree from an accredited program. Upon passing the exam, sonographers become registered diagnostic medical sonographers (RDMS).

Registration with ARDMS requires passing a general physical principles and instrumentation examination, in addition to passing an exam in a specialty such as obstetric and gynecologic sonography, abdominal sonography, or neurosonography.

To keep their registration current, sonographers must complete continuing education to stay abreast of technological advances related to the occupation. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) also tests and certifies medical sonographers and administers continuing education and ethics requirements for annual registration.

The one I went to was one of the most educated fellows I've run across. He had a B.S. in biochemistry and a multi-year internship and some other thing in ultrasound stuff.....

  6. Avoid AF if at all possible.

Last time I went to Russia, I went on Delta. Didn't have any problems. Got two tickets for 100,000 miles.

Time before that, I went on Aeroflot, but only because they had a non-stop flight from Seattle to Moscow. Didn't have any problems. I can't remember how much I paid for that ticket - but I think it was $1000 or so.

Time before THAT, I went on British Airways. Cost me 70,000 miles for one ticket! But didn't have any problems.

I'd avoid trying to deal with them on the phone though. I'd go to the airport and talk to whomever is at the desk.

    Good luck!

  7. Well, the key here is that if you have already earned a degree - you don't simply want to transfer credits. You want recognition of the degree, so that you can go on to graduate school, or some other higher purpose. If you already have earned an undergraduate degree (from Russia in this case), transferring credits and taking even more classes so you can earn another undergrad degree (esp. if it is the same as the one you already have) is not nearly as productive as going on and earning a graduate degree.

If at all possible, you want your foreign degree recognized, so that can move forward, not go through more of the same undergraduate BS.

Highly recommend following the form instructions. They publish them applicants to use. It would be rather rude to ignore them.
  10. The more they talk, the more I get depressed.

Are these four really the best America can do??

    Christ almighty.

I wish God (any god, pick one - I'm not particular) would strike them all down dead, make an appearance on SNL and announce that if America couldn't come up with better candidates from now on, he will kill all of its inhabitants, declare America the new holy land, relocate all the Jews, Muslims and weapons here from around the Earth, and let them fight it out until the end. Just get it over with already.

    This election sucks.

  11. We pay $120 a month through at & t for 4 lines,...2 of those are TEENAGERS.....that gives us ...Trust me, its a godsend with teenagers who average about 800 texts a month...
I wouldn't allow my child to have a cell phone. Or TV in his room. Or a game system....I'm just a mean old #######.
  12. One of the problems of the American public is that their attention span has grown far too short -- so that brief, cogent arguments, such as those of OP, are not read by those who feel nonetheless well qualified to comment.
Oh give me a break. I have more attention span than you can possibly imagine. However, I do not choose to waste it reading posts on VJ.

Companies can pay their workers whatever they think is fair. If the workers don't like their wages, they can find a better company to work for. Ultimately the market sets the price.
Exactly. Why would a company increase wages if people are willing to work for the same amount? It doesn't make sense.
  13. How does one get those transcripts from the Russian University? My Husband got his diploma form MGU back in 1975, the USSR days. He said there were never any transcripts or actual diplomas but a document that certified the graduate as a "specialist" in his field. His classes included Marxist economics and Lenin /Marx Theory, etc, which don't have any value or equivalent in the US.
    Probably out of luck.

Also if we actually can get transcripts do they have to be in a sealed university envelope to be turned in to the American university? How about the translation?
Yes - see my post above.
