ceadsearc reacted to Brother Hesekiel in How Long Can Perm Res Be Out of Country?
If Cairo is his home, as you stated, he can get in trouble very quickly.
A Green Card holder needs to reside in the U.S. Uncle Sam requires that the United States are "home" for him now. A vacation at his former place of residence, even a longer one, is no problem. Taking care of a family member for a while isn't a problem either. But at about 6 months absence he can expect eyebrows to be raised and questions to be asked in order to determine if he did abandon his residency.
Most people have to work for a living, so a 6-months vacation is under almost any circumstances prohibitively expensive. But maybe you guys are wealthy, own a big company with many employees and don't have to work yourselves. If so, be prepared to show proof of that when returning to the US. If the CBP officer feels he's being hoodwinkled by a Green Card holder, he can confiscate the Green Card right away and only parole your husband into the US in order to see an immigration judge.
Basically, use common sense when leaving the US. It just has to make sense to an Immigration Officer who is trained to be suspicious.

ceadsearc reacted to Brother Hesekiel in Recieved green card now going on trip out of states
Just as a general clarification: James Bond's code is 007. The Green Card's code is I-551. It comes in form of the actual card, and in form of a stamp. The stamp is usually given when the card hasn't arrived yet, or has been lost and an I-90 for a replacement card has been paid for and filed. Once the actual card is available, the stamp becomes meaningless.

You apply for the SSN number once you have the EAD. Go to the website of the Social Security Administration (www.ssa.gov), download the application, and go to the nearest SSA office in your city. It will take 2-3 weeks to get the actual card.
Here is a link to the website with information on getting an SSN for non-citizens

Yeah, I bought my wife from Asia - not a privileged VWP country. And there was never any doubt she'd get her green card because we followed the process to the letter.
And now it's time for you to do the happy dance down in San Diego with all of the Portuguese VWP overstays who've been denied.

Yeah, it's definitely sticking it to The Man to make a blanket attack upon VJ members and to make insinuations about the validity of U.S. citizens' marriages to people of particular national origins ... VJ is definitely The Man, individually and collectively!

ceadsearc got a reaction from Ricky+Vanessa in US Fiance died.. can she marry another person?
She can marry whoever she wants. She can never adjust her status, unless she returns home. If her fiance just died and she is already trying to find someone else to "start all over again" with, then she's almost certainly looking for a fraudulent marriage to get benefits from, and will probably be denied even if she does return home and "start over." She should return to her home country, period.

ceadsearc got a reaction from Ben & Heidy in Walk-in for bio appointment
We did a walk-in. Alexandria is VERY walk-in friendly, according to this board, haven't heard of anyone being denied. We went in on a Tuesday morning, brought the letter we received, they have someone at a desk right when you walk in asking for the letters - we didn't say anything, just showed it to her, she looked it and and told us to go ahead and have a seat and fill out the paperwork. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes.

ceadsearc reacted to Gary and Alla in New Poll Shows Majority in U.S. Say All Immigration Has a Negative Impact
I saw one poll where the majority of people thought we needed "more gun laws" Really? Which ones do we have now?
People have no clue...NO CLUE what the immigration laws are. How many people have you met that think if someone marries a US citizen that they "automatically" get a green card or become a citizen? How many times have you seen this nonsense in some movie or TV show? And you are going to ask them if "immigration" is a good thing? They do not even know what "immigration" is.
Public opinion polls of subjects the public generally has no knowledge of are just a joke. I can only hope they did not use money confiscated from MY paycheck to fund it.

ceadsearc reacted to one...two...tree in New Poll Shows Majority in U.S. Say All Immigration Has a Negative Impact
Care to challenge the facts of immigration's positive impact? Based on the number of anti-immigration posts you make, I'd venture to guess you are a member of NumbersUSA or some other affiliate of the anti-immigration movement, which is ironic considering your spouse is an immigrant and you are an immigrant of Hawaii. No wonder the natives hate foreigners like you.

Since when do parents have to be married to be parents? This has nothing to do with the POS law that is DOMA.

Good! About time!
And homosexual agenda down our throats? Hahahaha whatever. It's going to say Parent 1 and Parent 2, not Mom 1 and Mom 2. Get over yourself.

You apply for your SSN yourself at the naerest office. Bring your green card and whatever else the office needs, you can download the forms from their website I think.

No I wasn't being facetious.
Unless any future legislation affects removal of conditions or qualifications for citizenship, US immigration policy does not affect you directly. It doesn't affect most Americans. Which is why there is so much ignorance about why so many are here illegally.

ceadsearc got a reaction from HeatDeath in Immigrate with K-1 or change status from Tourist?
Like the others said, without intent, you definitely can AOS. But in terms of what will be easiest, you'll probably be under a lot of scrutiny with getting married soon after arriving on a B-2 and a short courtship. A K-1 or CR-1 would be less risky, IMO, but since you genuinely didn't intend it AOS is an option if you choose to take it.

ceadsearc got a reaction from Brother Hesekiel in In Congress, a harder line on illegal immigrants
It may be true that many Latinos sympathize with immigrants who have come here illegally (which truly I believe is a personal thing, just like USCs and others form their own opinion and decide whether or sympathize or not), but NO WAY do the majority come here expecting amnesty or anything else. Please. Most of them haven't gotten amnesty, and won't get amnesty, and there is no way to KNOW if they'll get TPS. The ONLY people who may expect amnesty are people coming from Cuba, because we explicitly say - hey! Make it to land! You can stay! The majority of illegal immigrants come here not because they want to be illegal but because they literally cannot make ends meet in their country and have families to support. And the US loves it, despite what they say. Do you really think the USCs are going to go pick strawberries and tomatoes? Please.
