When my husband and I met, I didn't speak Spanish, and he didn't speak English. Somehow we hit it off and managed to get by (thanks, Google Translate!), but when he came to the States and moved in with me, we were in for a lot of failed attempts at communication.
For example, I brought him a calzone on my lunch hour on that first day I had to go back to work after his arrival. I tried to offer it to him in Spanish, not realizing at the time that calzón, in Spanish, means underwear. Things got strange very quickly.
By the time his work authorization came through, he'd learned enough English to start to appreciate slang. Unfortunately, his first day did not go so well, as he feared he was the victim of an unwanted sexual advance by his new boss.
"He tells me he is a 'ball-buster'. Is that like ghostbuster? Please explain to me how that is not gay."
I actually miss the days when things like this were a daily occurrence -- now that we both speak both languages confidently, life is just not quite as colorful. I talked myself out of recording all the funny stories as they were happening, thinking that Enrique is a grown man and it's a bit infantilizing to keep the equivalent of a 'baby book' for him -- though these days, I think he actually would have enjoyed going back and having a laugh about the old days. Alas, I have already forgotten so many of them.
I know there are many couples like us on this site. Surely there are some great stories. Care to share one of yours?

I hope everyone had a happy Easter. I got my wedding dress over the weekend and finally getitng plans made since we're still on back up with paperwork. He's going to get the forms ready for the police clearance this week, so when his passport comes in the next few weeks he can just send it off.

Arrived in the USA last night. Back in the arms of the girl I love and who will be my wife next saturday. .........Yay!!

as far as not having a mena fetish, i was extremely naive the first time I met Ali. He asked me to guess his ethnicity (after even knowing his name) I guessed Canadian. WOW IDIOT. He won't let me forget it.
at first i just wanted to be friends, so no, i don't have a MENA fetish and wasn't hunting him
in fact, all through high school and until I met him, I was convinced if I married abroad it was going to be a Chinese man. idky that's who I always gravitated towards. I never even considered someone from MENA because it's almost a social faux pas in America (LAME!)
now that im with habubu i can't imagine not marrying a man from MENA. dang, sensitivity and manliness? Sold!
howevs, if we ever divorced, i don't think i could marry again. period.

He has a good job in Jordan and owns 2 homes and a car. All his family is there. I loved Jordan when I was there and was not ready to come home when I did. I only came back because it was Christmas time and my family would have died if I missed being with them. We as just scared to do anything because he thinks that if he applies for a visa they might turn him down and he won't be able to apply for another one for 6 months. We are desperate. I am to the point of leaving my country to go there to live. HELP someone please!!!

Sorry, but I can't take this anymore! My semester ends next week and I graduate on the 15th of April. I want to know when exactly I can see my fiance again before that or else I'll end up being on the computer every single day checking on my case status (and maybe eventually go insane).

I absolutely agree with some of the posters who are saying that we shouldn't assume that there aren't men here in america who fit this profile and would be might desirable.
However, I also have to say that even back to my teen years, I didn't know I had a type, but I had imagined what a husband would be like, and I kept it to myself to not show my extremely women-are-empowered family that I had some ideals for being less than in charge.
I don't have rose-colored glasses on by far. We fight, I annoy him, he annoys me. We all do things that bug each other and we make mistakes. the most important thing is that that is not the dominant feature of our relationship.
I love the manly, take care of business, i'll fix that, i'll carry that guy that he is. Not that you have to go abroad for that, but thta's just how it worked out. I will also add, he surprised me when we first started dating, I woke up from a nap to see him with a needle and thread sewing his jacket lining. I said, "you know how to sew?" and he said, "um, of course I do, my grandfather taught me when I was little."

My husband is very much the "man" of the house, but it is also 2-fold. He could be in the kitchen doing something and come and sit down in the living room and then tell me to go get him some water. Huh? Weren't you just in there? "but you are my wife!" Oh yeah, hmm I must have forgot!! LOL
He definitely loves his hair products and if I don't keep them separate, he'll even use my perfume!!! I make sure to keep him "stocked" up on colognes!
Since being in the US, he has calmed down quite abit on being so "chilvarous". I do get to answer the door occasionally!

Anna is right. Unless you have driven there...dont attempt to rent a car. The people there drive crazy. I think I had my eyes covered for most of my 1st and 2nd trip there. By the 3rd time I got used to it. Another thing she is right about is the kids. The kids look innocent and like they need the money. Although they might, the person they are working for doesnt.
Try not to show too much public affection. Its not looked upon highly at all.
Jordan is beautiful and one of the greatest places I have ever been. I was very welcomed and had the time of my life. Best place to stay is in West Amman. Taxis...just remember that the yellow ones are always cheaper than the white ones.
I have been to Jordan 3 times to see my husband, but we only stayed in 2 places. Razan Hotel by the Royal Hotel in the 3rd circle, we stayed at 2 times. It was 30 JD a night. They have a breakfast buffet, but if you are not arabic you probably wont eat it. lol. Its not all that bad but could be a lot cleaner...but the people that work there are very sweet. The lady that works during the day speaks English. Her name is Maria. The number there is 011-(962) 6 4649-3912.

Both places had there advantages in being close to different places to eat or walk around.
It is nothing to see people walking around safely at 3 am. While you are there, you have to eat shawrma from Shawrma El Reem in the 2nd circle and go to the Dead Sea. You will have a blast I am sure. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, my husband is now here with me and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

i think a few just got approved...according to Igor's list. i am doing some research to see how far down the list most of us are. So far I have deciphered that Mel1990 is 70th on Igor's list for what it's worth!
I moved up from being almost 450th to 150th in only two weeks! holla! Ella and Octav look in good shape too at 103.
idk if any of this matters, but i like lists and i like to see myself moving up those lists!

As for refreshing the Igor's List page a million times a day, talk about missing the forest for the trees! There are so many things to do while waiting, honestly, keeping busy and doing useful things for this process, planning ahead(what you are able to plan)... Given the progress of USCIS. They are actually working, they're clearly not sleeping.
They can go through over 80,000 applications and still have a normal life. So yes, it's possible to have our NOA2 maybe sooner than we expect!!
