  1. ok... i posted same topic but there was online one reply... we need your responses thank you so much!

    here goes...

    14,000 - fiance's income (doesn't meet 125% level)(no property assets, small amount in bank)

4,800 - fiance claimed this amount in his tax return from roommate's rent

18,800 - income.. so does this mean he met the required poverty level? is the 4,800 counted as income already? or do we still need co-sponsor?

  2. My pleasure. The three main things to concentrate on are medical, interview, and CFO seminar. Within those you will hear about things like NBI clearances, CENOMARs, travel tax (yes, you will pay a tax for your asawa to leave the country at the airport, higher than what a non-Pinay will pay)... lots of good info here, just keep reading, and feel free to ask after you have read. One thing you might be confused about that has changed in the past year is scheduling the interview... it is done online now, using your MNL# that you can get from the NVC after they ship your packet to Manila. No need to call the USEM and try to schedule it on the phone. Suggest you do your medical NOW, in case her TB test comes up positive, as that can cause delays of up to 2 months or longer. (Read threads about sputum tests to see what I mean).

    Good luck on your journey!

How much is travel tax?(another rip-off brrr)

Darnell answered this just this week. I may have to go this Route as well. I think you will need your MNL# Issued after your NOA2 and sent to NVC and then to the Consulate in the Phils. (Philippines) to do this. 2008, 2009, 2010 are fine but 2011 is not looking very good.

Never hurts to read. To me it makes good sense what Darnell Posted.

thank you for the link! yes we are preparing fiance's docs while waiting for mnl#

  4. My fiance's income is also not sufficient base on the poverty line so he got his dad to co-sponsor. But during my interview, when the consul asked me about financial support, i mentioned to her that my fiance has a joint sponsor. The consul said that they don't allow co-sponsorship for K1 visas. I was stunned. I couldn't believe it because my fiance even asked USCIS if it's okay and they said there shouldn't be any problem. Anyway, i insisted, then eventually she got my docs for joint sponsor. She still placed me under 221g. So i submitted the docs they're still asking. Last thursday, they delivered my visa. :) I guess some consul allows it and some don't but it doesn't hurt to ask and be persistent about it. If you think that your fiance's income is really not enough, better to have a back up plan...get a co-sponsor. God bless!

Thank you all for the responses!

What is 221g? ya i don't understand why US Em in PI doesn't approve co-sponsors and for that we are skeptical in getting one but my fiance is gonna get his mom or brother as cosponsor. His priority is to be able to reach poverty guideline. How much $$ should he have on bank to put us in safety net with all this financial #######? sorry just getting stressed out now...

and yes we are now waiting for manila case# but right now im not that enthusiastic about that coz of this financial stuff

  5. yey!!! congrats to us... we also got our approval same date with you guys!!! thank god......

and what do we do next? i hope we can be friends so we can help each other on our step by step process with our journey...godbless....

yay! we wait for noa2 and then the nvc letter to petitioner w/ MNL case#

sure! are u a member of pinay group in facebook?

  6. congratulations!!! what do we do next after receiving the noa2? do we wait on the consulate to send us another letter so we can call an set up a medical exam and interview?? let me know what's the next procedure guys??? thank you so much!!

Thanks and congratulations to you too!!

I think NVC will send letter to petitioner with case # and I have read that you can call NVC 10 days after receiving NOA2 hard copy to get your case # if you haven't received letter yet..

Pls. correct me if im wrong. That's what i understood :)

  7. This is the one topic that's gonna be most argued/talked about and this is one difficult culture difference couples need to discuss about. I suggest you talk with your fiance about it first. Her family also needs to understand your culture to be fair.

My fiance told me upfront not to send money to relatives back home when we get married. I told him I would be sending my own money to help them. I'd exclude him from helping. It's better that way. I also told my family not to expect alot of stuff from him too. I think it is rude to expect stuff and get upset if you don't get some. I swear i don't that part of filipino mentality.

and oh, i remember a saying. if you marry a filipina you marry the family too. what do you think?

  8. Including family.....in most cases, you will pay for everything (parties. excursions, etc). On several occasions I was 'invited' on family 'outings' and at the opportune time, ask to pay all expenses!..I now refuse to pay anymore than our share and...surprise surprise...were never invited anymore. I realize all the families aren't like that but the notion 'all white guys are rich and WANT to give their money away' runs pretty deep. Fortunately, I have an Asawa that's not stuck to her family like glue. Very rare indeed :-)

I totally agree with you! Filipinos stereotype white people as rich. And it pisses me off because they're narrow-minded.

I got pissed off by my own family (i'm the beneficiary) because they expected my fiance to pay for all expenses while he stayed at the house in the country. They did not even thank him for taking them out to dinner and paying for food and place when we went to a beach resort. Grrrr!
