  1. Speaking of recipies...you know how to make a boxty?

That's the fried potato mix griddle cake isn't it? I've had it years ago, but I don't know how to make it. I don't think it's too common where I'm from. We usually just fry day old potatoes and cabbage...different dish, but tasty!!

It's like a pancake only different. Oh man are they good

Lisa, are you talking about potato farls (or purdy bread, as Aidan calls it)? If so, Aidan's got a recipe for you. Let me know, and I'll get him to post it. He makes them for me all the time because they definitley don't sell them in the states. In fact, I think the only place they really sell them (at bakeries or grocery stores) is in the North of Ireland (Ulster-not just NI). I lovelovelove them, fried, cold from the fridge, straight from the griddle...you name it. Yum. *drool*

They're deffo called a boxty...we first found them in Dublin in a place called Galleghar's boxty house...it was so damned good & different, we flew to Dublin for dinner one weekend, lol

Then once when we were in Belfast, we went to Ryan's Wee Bar & Grille and they had them there, only better.

It's a pancake but with stuff heaped on it. Once we had steak & whiskey, then we had chicken..

But I'll take your recipe any day jelti! Yes please and thank you!

Ack, nevermind. Aidan says boxty is not the same as potato bread. But I'll have him post the potato bread recipe anyway, just for those interested.

ETA: see attached. These are the ones Aidan makes for me...the ones they sell in the bakeries or grocery stores are usually square shaped.

  3. Good luck! Remember, make them realize that you are qualified for the position. Go to the interview in a good mood, and let your confidence shine through. Nobody can resist someone who brightens the room as soon as they walk in. :luv:

  4. Its funny how you go thru life eating and doing the same old things and then you move miles away and thats when you realize the little things that you love and miss, my husband missed so much stuff but mostly Irish sausages and rashers, chocolate (ours doesnt compare) and a few other things i cant really think of off hand, but I get what ya mean about the mac and cheese.

My Aidan also really misses "normal" sausage from Ireland...he says that all the stuff here has too much stuff added to it, and he really hated the maple breakfast sausage, lol. :P I'm a vegetarian, and I eat fake meat sometimes...he actually enjoys the Boca Meatless Sausage Patties more than regular meat sausage.

Mand, I can't think of any tried and true American recipes...most all the food I've ever cooked is ethnic food from around the world! Actually...I really don't like American food!

Hmmm...but try VegWeb.com; vegetarian, but really yummy and all the recipes have rating systems so you can choose which ones have the most stars! :)

  5. Umm...I'm probably going to get slammed here...but I just thought I'd add a question which is NOT directed solely at charlesandnessa or nessaandcharles, but at anyone that it may pertain to, and the only reason I'm even asking it in this thread is because we're already on the topic of stopping certain posts:

Is there anyway we could cut back on the dirty threads? The joke threads were a bit bothersome, but I just scrolled past them all as best as I could. But one thing I can't seem to escape is all the dirty threads that have popped up (no pun intended  ) lately. I'm not talking about the ones to seriously ask for advice, but the pointless ones like "Boobies" and "Breasts o'plenty" and "Me so horny", etc.

Please don't take this as hostile or as an attack on anyone...it's just that lately I've been wanting to direct co-workers and family members to this site to present to them the time-consuming process getting a visa and moving to America truly entails. But, I've been too embarassed to send them here due to all the dirty threads in Off-Topic. I'm afraid that they won't bother taking the thread seriously. :(

If they come to VJ looking for the answers for getting a visa and moving to America, then its doubtful they would find those answers in OT since there are forums and threads to answer specific issues. I know you don't mean it as a hostile attack but this is what a public forum is like...you take the good with the bad. You ignore the threads you dont want to read and read those that pertain to what you want to know. If everyone judged Visa Journey by the contents of Off Topic then there might not be a lot of people here looking for serious answers. OT is just a place to let off steam, relax, or even have a laugh or two to relieve the stress. :) Hope you didn't take this as a "slam"...wasn't intended to be.

Karen you took the words right out of my mouth.

Jelti, I appreciate your pov...and sometimes there are threads that I don't participate in. But you can't expect a whole forum to stop joking around so you can show your family & coworkers. Just tell them to stay out of OT.

Oh, please don't misunderstand me. I didn't mean for all of OT to stop joking around. I just thought maybe we could keep things at least mildly PG-13?

Anyway, it was just a thought. :P

  7. yup, just joined and posted all that. sounds like trolling.

Just because the OP just joined with this account, doesn't mean he's a troll. He may have had a previous account but was too ashamed to post with it. Why do we all assume that these people who come on VJ posting very sad stories are trolls?

I give advice when it is asked for. I don't immediately think, "Oh this story can't be real, this poster must be a troll!" If he isn't a troll and is really going through all this, don't you think we ought to show some compassion and try to help out? And if we find out later that he is a troll, who cares?

  8. Hi all!

I just came in from the CS' office. I waited for about 3 hrs for me to be called in to see the doctor. To give you a background of the status of my application, I received a 2nd RFE, this time for a "properly completed" I-693, in April, asking for evidence for a chest xray and/or TB test report (which was actually submitted before in response to the 1st RFE). BEfore putting it in an envelope, CS asked me to-recheck everything for me to make sure it's complete (probably coz she asked me to pay $50 to "re-do" my I-693). I went through it, asked a few questions, and "approved" it. Then they sealed the envelope which was an enclosed return envelope that in with my RFE notice.

I got home, re-checked, and.... there it was, an error with my treatment dates. IT should be Aug 25-Feb 25. The date on the I-693 I picked up is 2 months short. OCt. 25 to Feb 25.

I need to have it revised by the CS, but the USCIS-provided envelope is signed by the doctor , sealed- stapled. WHat should I do to make it "acceptable" to USCIS, to convince them I did not tamper the results?

I would appreciate all your ideas... just when I thought this would soon be over.... :help:

I think you should go back to the Civil Surgeon's office, ask them to correct the error and write a short letter explaining the situation. Then, they should reseal and initial the envelope. This should (hopefully) be acceptable to the USCIS. Or you could always set up an infopass appointment with the USCIS, explain the situation, and ask for a new envelope.

Good luck, and keep us updated! :luv:

  9. You current status is "Adjustment Pending" sorry dont know why your i-94 says May 2007 should only be valid for 90 days...

    Kezzie

According to her signature, she arrived in the country in February...therefore the I-94 would be good until May 2006. Looks like it was an error.

Missy, I agree with kezzie. When you get your NOA1's, your status is Adjustment Pending. Good luck with the rest of the process! :luv:
