  1. Hi all,

Quick question...is it possible to get the US Embassy in Australia to send me the Packet 3 in Singapore? Or do I have to have an Australian mailing address? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah what Karo said. I bet you have to be in Oz, it would cost some money to have it sent to Singapore. Maybe if you paid at delivery?

Sean you've been pretty quiet recently...what's going on with you?

Busy busy busy! I let things pile up on my desk at times, and they catch up eventually. Right now I'm just swamped with stuff, in addition to that I'm changing some jobs and that means more work.

    Other things going on:

Last night here in St. Louis it was 70 degrees and we went on a picnic complete with wine, candlelight, music, and honey bbq chicken. It was great.

My dog still has a limp, I'm starting to worry, but it is gradually getting better. Her name is Aspen and if you wanna see her click on my pictures. She's a good girl most of the time.

Natalia and I are planning a trip to Colorado Springs to see the original Aussie in my family. My sister married one (that's how I met my wife) and they live out there now. So we might go there Memorial Day. Weather would be nice I reckon!

Um, anything else? Ummmmm....Cardinals spring training down there in St. Petersburg...getting excited. The new Busch Stadium is going up slow, it'll be interesting to see if they get it done in time.

Mardi Gras parade was last weekend....St. Louis has the 2nd biggest parade in the States, behind the obvious New Orleans. It's a good time and a customer of my bank provided me with free booze and food. That was fun, but Natalia didn't like it, due to it being a bunch of drunks in a big crowd. So I took her to Central WEst End two nights ago to make up for it. That's her favorite place in St. Louis right now. Small shops, tea bar, good restaurants, pretty setting. Good stuff.

Alright that's it. Back to work!

  2. Well I don't recall any previous members doing italy dcf, and this page: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...taly&cty=Naples

says you can't, but that could be old info. Who knows? Anyways, oh I see you just added the second post. Good.

As far as travelling back and forth while it's being processed....I'd ask the consulate...you hear stories about people being turned away at the airport, so I'd be hesitant. If Italy does do dcf like Australia does, then you would sumbit the I130 the same day as interview, but I don't know if it works the same way. Needless to say, check with the embassy and see what they say.

  3. we sent in our request on Jan 3rd...requesting three daysin march. The day we got was our last choice, but at least we got it.

    karo,

I just saw that you got married on the 28th of December -- so did we! :D Too funny!

Are you planning on filing everything in one day? The email I got from the consulate today said that I would need to file the I-130 and I-864 in person the Thursday before the interview is scheduled. I thought we could file it all at once on the same day? Has something changed about that? (I wish I had a thousand vacation days I could take from work!!!) Do you have your plane ticket yet? I'm so excited for you!

The consulate probably dind't understand what your plans were. They do NOT use the term dcf and you have to be careful in regards to how to ask about it.

  4. Hi all,

This is my first time posting and I hope you can help me. I am an Australian Citizen marrying a US Citizen in April 2006. That's pretty straightforward...but here's where it gets complicated. I left the US in 2004 (I was on a work visa then) to come back to Singapore for family reasons (my entire family lives in Singapore). I've been here on a short term tourist visa, meaning that I leave the country every 90 days and come back so my 90 days gets renewed. My fiance will be flying down to Singapore in April to get married and staying here for 3 weeks before he returns to the US. I am unable to file a DCF through the US Embassy in Singapore because they only deal with Singapore Citizens or US Citizens who have permanent residence or a work visa in Singapore.

My dilemma is, since we have a week after the wedding, should we take the risk to fly to Sydney to get the DCF filed? Is it even feasible since technically I don't have a "residence" in Australia? I would really appreciate if you had any advice. Thanks so much :)

The best answer I could find is in regards to non-aussies:

    (Q) CAN A THIRD COUNTRY NATIONAL (NOT A PERMANENT RESIDENT OF AUSTRALIA) APPLY FOR AN IMMIGRANT VISA IN AUSTRALIA?

    (A) In some cases. First, that person must show that they have permission from the Australian Department of Immigration to remain in Australia for 6 months or longer. Depending on the immigrant visa category involved, it is possible that we would accept that person's immigrant visa application. In general, however, the person must have some ties to Australia; that is, some reason for being here beyond applying for the visa.

SOooooo, I would say contact the embassy and see what requirements you would need to meet. So let me get this straight, you fly into Singapore for 90 days, and then return to Australia to get the tour visa renewed and go for another 90 days? Or is the US involved somehow? If you are going back to Oz every 90 days, where do you stay? What about your passport? Do they have addresses? I can't recall my own.

Bottom line: Get in touch with the embassy and find out exactly what you need to do.

  5. Cool! My husband is from Melbourne :) I can't wait to get back over there....ask any questions you have - everyone here is super helpful

How long did it take for you to get your interview date? Did you request it to be on the 24th or was that the one assigned? If we started to get the ball rolling quickly now, do you think it possible to request a date around the last week of March/ beginning of April?

I bet you must be so excited!

Generally, if you request an interview date several months in advance you should be fine. From what I've seen and done myself, two or so months should be ok...you will request three dates that would work for you, and then out of those three dates they assign whichever one is still available. You hear back from them in a couple weeks after you request. Or from what I recall. If I were you, and it sounds like this may be a possibility....request a few days in end of March and then one day in April...assuming you will be in Sydney that entire amount of time.

    Good luck!

Sorry I've been MIA for a little while, but things have been soooo HECTIC!!

Update: Only 2 more weeks or so until our interview @ Sydney and we finally almost have all our paperwork together. I won one family court case, and only have one more to win now! So we're going ahead with all 3 DCF's as planned, and just waiting on permission to take my eldest to the US. Oh, and some more happy news... WE"RE PREGNANT!!!!!

That's an awesome reason to not be around lately! Congratulations, are the kids getting excited? First a big move and now another sibling! Wowsers. Good on ya mate!

  6. you have only been here a year?? I thought you came with the place :P you are like a permanent fixture :P

    Congrats Scooby

    scooby-doo_where_are_you.gif

thanks peter..peggy and my local homey Faith...

weee i'm a local homey heheheh

Hey I wanna be a local homey too! Fast Eddies rulez. PWNED.

Good on ya mate. You're officially one of the old farts on the board now.

  7. My Dad got a small bout of it when I forced him and Mom to go over to Oz for my wedding. It wasn't real bad, but the next time he did some more moving and was fine. You don't have to be gung ho about it, but it's definitely smart to move around. I once didn't move much (first flight over) and my ankles swelled just a little. No pain or anything, just bigger feet. So that was enough for me. Just wiggle uncontrollably for a minute and see what kind of response your neighbor gives you.

And for the record, I had the worst neighbor in the world when I went over my last trip. She was some old Italian bird who had on approximately five gallons of perfume on. Then, thanks a lot, the Airline got her to buy 3 more perfumes from the airline magazine thing, and she had to try all three of them! So to make a long story short, my nose got a heavy dose of old woman smell for 14 hours. I couldn't breath half the time. Stink!

  8. it's better than missouri.... (not sure if it's still on the books but...) oral sex is illegal there.

what if you are on the illinois/missouri border engaged in oral sex (with someone other than a spouse) over state lines, can you be tried in both states for both being adultrous and engaging in oral sex?

what part of you is in which state? .... Nevermind .... I really don't want to know

thanks guys.. now i'm at work picturing someone on the poplar street bridge (bridge between st louis and illinois) having oral sex

Now it's on a public bridge???? I think you just involved a few more violations.

well considering that the mississippi river is the border between illinois and missouri, it would have to involve a bridge..... or a barge...

or scuba gear or a ski boat .... or skiing behind a ski boat ... this couple may be multi-talented

Ooh my two cents! What about on Metrolink?? It goes over there! And as far as bridges go, I'd go with the chain of rocks bridge, so no worries about traffic...it's for nonvehicles only.

  9. 1. When were you married?

    2. Where did you get married?

    3. What type of work do you do sir?

    4. And ma'am, what do you do?

He then said.. "Well, everything looks fine here. You can come pick your Visa up between 3:30 and 4 tomorrow afternoon."

    Mellie: "Thats it?"

Consulate: "Yep, we will see you tomorrow."

    Mellie: "So its approved?"

Consulate : "Yes, everything was perfect"

    Mellie turns away stunned. :D

I loved that part! I too just stood there for a minute, as the young fella was writing stuff down on our forms, and I ask him, so, are we, um, approved? And he says yeah congrats. Then you just kinda stand there stunned. You at least turned away and walked off. I stood there for like twenty minutes, just stunned. Ok maybe 20 seconds. Anyways, it was great. When he says that you get to act all excited in front of the other people and give your spouse a big hug and kiss. Fun times!

Congrats Mellie. Tell Scott welcome to America, and it's time for him to start watching some Packers football!

  10. Hey Mellie, what we did for our SSN was check the box on that one form, which says it will automatically be generated...but I didn't trust that, and so we went to the local office one week after Natalia arrived, and had a nice chat with the lady and got a number ordered through her. She was able to give us the number the next day, and then in one week the card showed up. Soooooo, if you're really anxious, go to your local office and see if they can expedite the process.

  11. After their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough as they

could not afford a larger bed.

So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his

cousin didn't want to have anymore children.

The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that

could fix the problem but that it was expensive. "A less costly

alternative," said the doctor, "is to go home, get a cherry bomb, (fireworks

are legal in Alabama) light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up

to your ear and count to 10"

The Alabamian said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest tool in the

shed, but I don't see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear

    is going to help me."

    "Trust me," said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held

the can up t! o his ear and began to count...

    "1"

    "2"

    "3"

    "4"

    "5"

At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs and

resumed counting on his other hand.

This procedure also works in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi,

Missouri, West Virginia and Washington DC

  12. Hello,

My wife came on a CR-1 mid January of this year. I want to open up a Roth IRA right away for her. I was going to do it for 2006 tax year.

However, since 2005 can still be contributed to up until mid-April... I was wondering if I could still contribute for her for 2005. We were married in 2005, so she was my spouse, and non-working spouses are allowed to contribute to a Roth under certain salary conditions. The only kicker here is that she didn't arrive until 2006.

Has anyone run into this, and what would you advise?

    THank you!

Well I should know this, but not 100% sure. The only question that I would have as a banker is regarding her social security number. That, in a way, is when the government can start to monitor your financial doings. So if she didn't have the SSN until 2006, then I would say she couldn't contribute for 2005. Let me check with my boss!

Well boss number one said she thinks you can do it, but not 100% sure. I have an 800 number hotline I can call in regards to all the IRS regulations and whatnot, so I'll try and remember to do that for you on Tuesday (not available today, closed on Monday). If you PM me that would serve as a great reminder, but I'll try to remember anyways. These kind of questions help me learn. Thanks mate!
