  1. Hey everyone! My husband and I are joining the ranks of January filers.. again! I was a January filer for my K-1 and now this. I guess I just really like doing big things at the beginning of the year, huh? The package was delivered today, so just waiting eagerly for text/email/biometrics appointment letter/anything! I have a feeling we may get an RFE because I'm not sure if I included my step-dad (joint sponsor's) pay stub as proof of employment or not. The package was so thick (weighed over 1 pound 3 oz in pure paper) and my memory is so sketchy sometimes that I honestly couldn't remember once I got home. It wouldn't take much to send them some extras, though, and he does make over $140,000 a year (I wish I was that well off, I'd never need a dang joint sponsor!) as proven in his past 3 tax returns, so we'll see. I ain't bothered. The hard part is over and waiting on this isn't nearly as excruciating as it was for the K-1. Good luck, everyone!

Also, birdygirl, aren't Scandinavians the best? :P

  2. All's quiet here, eh folks? We sent in our AOS today, finally! $30 with USPS express to send a big #### padded envelope weighing 1 pound and 3 oz in pure paper. Sure hope they enjoy going through that ####### when they get it at noon tomorrow. It took us a while to send it due to monetary issues, but we're good now. Just gonna have to live off of ramen noodles until Peter gets his EAD ;) nah, it's not that bad at all, especially since we're living with my parents in their finished basement apartment until we're on our feet.

How's everyone doing? Poacher, you were in my dream last night. You were talking about shooting while playing blackjack, so I know for a fact it was you, although there were no thongs involved. Stay out of my dreams, man, or Peter's gonna start to get suspicious.

It's a big weight off our shoulder to get the forms out. Just have to wait and see if they find anything wrong with it or wait for our bio appointment. I believe our application will be headed to Cherry Hill since it's closer than Newark, but we'll see. Either way, the wait doesn't look too long and it's not going to be nearly as bad since Peter's here.

  3. nvm, i double checked the I-94 and it says within the 90 days.

Heya, this thread might help your concerns: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/285738-quick-question/ No set timeline as long as you're married before the 90 days. Just as long as you don't try to cross the border, you're good!

I'm back from the dead, everyone. I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas. I've been working my #### off with UPS delivering packages the past month, but I'll hopefully be working in a hospital (a lot warmer of an environment) soon. I've missed your perverted ways, poacher, and reading everyone's news updates, but I see everyone's been as quiet as I have.

Happy New Years, Feb crew! It's almost been a full year since we started this mess! We shall overcome!

  4. So, already I am being screwed over during this AOS process. I sent it in Nov 16th & they received it the next day. Today I get the package returned to me saying "rejected" They, of course weren't specific, just saying that a form is outdated. We downloaded the forms from their own site & filled them in that day & mailed them the next. So, of course we have to call to find out exactly what they didn't like. The I-485 form was the culprit. Apparently, they accept forms by the revised date in the bottom right hand corner of the forms. So, the date being accepted for the I-485 has a date of Nov 23rd. My rejection letter is dated Nov 19th. Someone explain to me why they are rejecting my app 4 days before the new version even is put on the site????? :bonk:

So, everyone who hasn't filed AOS...make sure you check the revision dates on your forms. The USCIS site tells you the acceptable revision dates.

    What a scam.

Wow, what a load of bs, seriously. I can't believe they'd get that technical and b*tchy about it. I'm reeeeeeeally looking forward to doing this now. :bonk:

Apart from this hell hole, how's the actual adjusting going, girl? Still really missing your son? :( I had no idea you had a 21 year old son, you look about 25 in your pictures!

Hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. Peter really loved it, had everything on the table, and we went out Black Friday shopping this morning at Target. All my Christmas shopping is done, wrapped, and waiting for December 25th. The countdown begins.

  5. Anyone know how long we're given before we have to submit our AOS?

From what I've read on VJ, which could be wrong, there isn't much of a time limit as long as you're married within the 90 days. I've seen a lot of folks not apply until 5 or 6 months and even as far as 3 years after getting married on a K-1 visa due to money issues or other problems, whatever it may be, and still make it out fine. Again, just what I've gathered, but I'm pretty sure it's at your own accord, and most people just want it personally done with ASAP.

  6. That's great to hear, Amy and Michael! Peter and I have been married for almost four months now and it's still very surreal. After 5 years of being apart, it still feels like I'll have to drop him off at the airport sometime, but I'm very relieved to know I'll never have to again. We'll be filing for AOS soon, just need a few more tax copies from the IRS and we're good to go. Looking forward to getting that done with. Not so fun having only one person with income in the house, even if I do get to claim more on my taxes because of it! :P

  7. Hey all, I'm still alive! Life has just been pretty hectic, trying to get a job (FINALLY got one with UPS, woo hoo!), a whole bunch of birthdays, and our honeymoon. We went to Florida for a week, I drove down since Peter can't drive here, 1000+ miles both ways, but it was really awesome. My Mom is pushing us so hard for grandkids, but heck no! Not yet! Uterus is closed! :P

We are waiting on my step-dad's 2007 taxes before we can file AOS, everything else is done, even money, finally. I'm glad I read Veka's story about the license, they gave us hell just for trying to get a non-driver's license state ID because he doesn't have an EAD or greencard yet. Geez louise, this country.

Hope everyone's doing awesomely. I love the pictures, solmarc! Yaaaay Team Feb Filers!

  8. Yeap, that's what i will do, i will apply after the wedding, i am taking honeys last name. i am just wondering couse in one of the requirements of the marriage license the are asking proof of residency, how can i do that, i just move here two days ago.

If I recall correctly, when Peter and I got our marriage license, they didn't ask him for a proof of address and we also got married in NJ. Of course, it varies from town to town but we didn't have a problem, we just showed that he just came in on a K-1 visa and they had it ready for us within a few days. Again, it could be different, just our experience, though. Best of luck!

    Edit:

Peter had to get the medical re-done anyway because his vaccinations were marked as "incomplete but waived," and he had to get his tetanus shot again. Going in tomorrow to pick up the sealed envelope (it cost us $200 for the shot and to have the Civil Surgeon fill out the papers, what a complete rip off) and then we are sending it to the Chicago Lockbox, finally. Oy vey.

  9. Any news, Leslie? :(

We've been quiet.. all spending time with our S/Os, or in the process towards it, no doubt! We are sending the AOS out finally by tomorrow or Thursday, just had to have my step-dad sign some things first.

Been keeping busy by working out, hoping to lose 30-40 pounds in the next 3 months, hooooooo boy. It's not easy when there's so much yummy food around, like the oh so tempting pizza upstairs. Peter can still eat ten pizzas and not gain an ounce. I still have the ability to look at an apple and gain 6 pounds. :bonk:

  10. Thought all our troubles went away when they said approved, but apparently I was mistaken. It has been 9 days since we were approved & still no visa. I am starting to freak out. Everyone else who was interviewed the same day has received their visa already. So, where's mine????

Oh, geez. :( Nothing worth doing is ever easy. It should come.. have you tried calling? Have there been any holidays lately? Maybe you got caught in between too many weekends or holidays or something.. just trying to figure it out, because that's some b/s.

I'll dance again just for you.

  11. Beautiful jewelry, UK! I'll more than likely pick up a piece or two as the winter weather comes around. :) I can afford it now that I have a job interview on Monday, woooooo hoo! Just retail, working at Toys R Us for the holiday season and possibly longer, but that's better than nothing. Granted, I've only been unemployed for 5 days, but I hate feeling like I'm not doing anything.

So who's still waiting on interviews and everything, apart from Paul and Vanessa? Is this Feb ship sailing to the AOS Island soon? We need to start a thread there just for us. They won't even know what hit em.

  12. I'll post em as fast as I make em! We have a busy day today, going to the DMV to get my car checked as well as getting his state ID so he doesn't have to use his passport as ID.. it'd be a lot riskier to lose that than just a $7 card. Also going to the bank and out to lunch and to the pet store.. looking for a job, too, since my summer job is over as of Saturday. Kinda need it for the Affidavit of Support, but my step-dad's going to co-sponsor us again, thankfully.

How are your little ones getting on with being in the States now? Does your daughter still cry while going on the bus? :( I hope they love it, next summer you should take them to NJ for the beaches, boardwalks, Six Flags, etc.. it can be fun here, I promise!

Never stop making your jewelery, it's so lovely! Tell me when you put them up on ebay, I'll be one of your first customers for sure.

  13. Those are all so beautiful, UK! Do you have a shop that you sell them at? If not, you should at least open an Etsy account, those would fly out of your door immediately.. sooooo pretty, I really, really love the snowflake one. It's never too early for winter/Christmas. A local Target near me is already stocking Christmas decorations, so why not, eh?

Thank you for the cupcake compliment, solmarc! <3 It means a lot when people enjoy my food, even if they can't taste it, hehe. You'll have a very easy time through Newark airport, just tell your fiance that he should come late to pick you up, because Peter was the last person to let into arrivals after everyone else on his flight and another flight because of double checking paperwork, so I was waiting in arrivals for at least an hour while it usually would have been 10 minutes, but it never hurts to be safe. Where are you going to be living in NJ, again?

Poacher, we'll leave the porch light on for you with a little basket full of beer and a few shotglasses full of vodka as a welcome present.

  14. Yaaaaaaaaaay, Les! I always like to hear about easy interviews. I wish I had been there for Peter's but it didn't make sense financially. Now you can start stressing about the wedding instead! ;)

I just got a bunch of books about decorating cupcakes.. I might be taking my Mom's business of catering/baking for parties soon. She's been doing it since before I was born but she's pretty much retired now, but the demand for cakes/cupcakes is never ending.

Here's something I made a few nights ago: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs639.snc4/59971_1615398588554_1344000270_31670913_775926_n.jpg and http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs322.ash2/60284_1615396748508_1344000270_31670901_5425610_n.jpg Just plain yellow cake cupcakes with creamy vanilla frosting tinted juuuust a bit with brown food coloring to give it that cooked look, with M&Ms on top and piped to make it look like little cherry pies. :) It was my first time ever piping on a cupcake so the "crust" looks a little sloppy, and the frosting was a bit too warm, probably would have stayed better if it was colder, but oh well. Always room for improvement.

Poacher, if you come up to Jackson sometime, give us a shout, we still have way too much beer and vodka leftover from the wedding.. I think I have just the job for you two.
