Turns out "it's just an estimate", or rather a number that doesn't indicate actual completion time, is correct.

I sent out the application on Dec 11, 2017, it was delivered Dec 14, finger prints were done in in early January, interview was on Dec 11, 2018, and naturalization ceremony will be tomorrow, Dec 18.

So I guess it's like when your watch says "water resistant up to 300 m", doesn't mean you can take down scuba diving, but it's OK to take it swimming in the pool.

Rather than waiting until February 2020 as initially indicated at the USCIS website, looks like it will all be done tomorrow.

You know what, why not? I've done job interviews via Skype. And you can see a doctor via skype-like apps.

I'm working with people all over the country every day. This is 2018, computers, telecommunication, scanners, printers, the internet all exist.

Yeah, I think the backlog isn't because they're intentionally trying to stop people from voting, but because they're too busy chasing down and deporting legal immigrants who had a misdemeanor charge a few decades ago.

After reading that article, I checked my account. Yay, the original estimated time of completion went from 18 months (Nov 2019) to 20 months, February 2020. But noooooo there is no backlog.

Kinda insane... that USCIS will ask for children as proof.

They do no such thing.

They're saying _if_ you have kids together, that could be considered evidence of a bona fide marriage. But nowhere do they say "must have spawned offspring to be considered legit".

How advice is offered is as important as the advice itself. Treat people like idiots, they won't listen to you, and you might as well not waste your time. But if you haven't figured that out by now, you never will.

Likewise, act like an idiot, and you'll be treated like one. How a question is asked will determine how answers are given.

We just got notification from the USCIS that our AOS (I-751) was denied by the Vermont Service Center. In a 3 page letter, they claim that "the evidence we submitted was not sufficient" and then they list evidence that they need.

So that's a RFE, request for evidence; not a denial letter.

When we had our interview at the Jacksonville USCIS location, we brought all our tax documents, joint savings accounts, driver license, military IDs, bills, proof of insurance, and even a box filled with photographs. But, they didn't even interview us! We drove 4 hours for nothing! They just took her finger prints...

So that wasn't an interview, but the biometric appointment where they do nothing but take a photo, fingerprints and a signature.

All snark withheld for now, I know this is stressful, but do try to read the instructions and the letter, as well as trillium's excellent advice.

In addition to what she's listing, we also had screenshots of ebay and PayPal accounts, showing clearly that one man and one woman are using both, also envelopes from friends, family, business and junk mail addressed to one, or the other, or both of us, at the same address, collected over many months; also, bank statements showing both of us having salary deposited there, and both of us spending from there.

Think "Office Space": If you think the bare minimum is enough, then ok. But some people choose to wear more pieces of flair and we encourage that, ok?

With the huge amount of paperwork that was in our future back when we got married, the one marriage present we requested (and got) was a wireless laser printer. Much cheaper to operate than a color inkjet printer. But of course it prints black only. ALL of the copies we sent in were in black and white only, and there wasn't any problem with this.

Oh no! Don't think I suck for not updating. I never asked to get on the list in the first place because I didn't want to play the list game. Thus I didn't update. If I ever look at this thread, I scroll past that long list as quickly as possible to get to questions or problems that might be posted. So I see I'm there as VSC #1 (numero uno T-bone, si man.) Oh well.
