  1. Here is one. Virginians do not understand me when I say the number eight. It has got to the point were I have to say " You know, the number between 7 and 9". Makes ordering a number 8 meal at a McDonalds drive through interesting...

Drive through - another chance for anecdotes. But I am not going there. Dark times.

  2. Oh, I just came across this information on an unrelated website.

I was born in Northern Ireland. Am I British?

If you were born before 1 January 1983, the answer is yes (unless your father was an Irish diplomat).

If you were born on or after 1 January 1983, the position is more complex. You will be automatically British if one of your parents was a British citizen (but not a British subject) at the time of your birth. This applies whether they had a British passport or not.

If neither parent was a British citizen, you will still be British automatically if either of your parents was ‘settled’ in the UK. This is defined as being ordinarily resident and having permission to stay indefinitely in the UK. Irish citizens are given this permission automatically, so the only issue would be whether your parents were living in Northern Ireland at the time you were born. If that was the case, then you are British automatically, if not (eg they were on holidays) then you will not be British from birth.

So a person's nationality depends on when they were born, and their parents' nationality, too. Good to keep in mind.

So a lot of words saying if your born in UK soil your British...... With a few minor get out clauses.

  3. Yes thank you for the information but I've been reviewing these documents on and off for two years now this is not something I'm just filling out on the fly. I'm very aware of all the documents that I need and I required of me my question was only if the non-petitioning fiancé in other words my foreign fiancé also needed to supply documents and his own statement.

Just making sure... Sounds like you have things under control.

  4. It has been over 5 years since my wife file I129F and started the ball for me so my memory is fading. But Yes proof of meeting in the last 2 years, pictures and other evidence IS a requirement. There is a good guide and example forms here on this board that I used and things went well.

The Consulate in Belfast ,like the ones in Scotland and Wales do not handle immigration visa's. Only London.

  5. Hi!

I'm in the middle or filling out form I-129 and had a couple of questions.

1)My fiance's name on his passport is different that that he typically uses (it's in irish on his passport but in all other instances he uses the English spelling), which should be put on the form?

    2) He lives in Northern Ireland and was born there, but he carries an irish passport. Do I put country of citizenship as Ireland or uk?

    3) they don't ask that he provides proof of meeting in the past 2 years or for details of how we met but he should also write a letter with this info or only me as the petitioner?

Thank you all so much for your help!

    Here is my understanding.

1 .Use his legal name. The one on his birth certificate / the one on his passport. The one used on all legal documents.

    2. Even though he is entitled to carry an Irish Passport and claim Irish citizenship, being born in Northern Ireland makes him a UK citizen. Like it or loathe it that is a fact. Also his medical and interview WILL be done in London. Do not try and force it through Dublin. It will not happen. Others have tried, failed and caused themselves aggravation.

    3. For I129F that is primary evidence. You do need to prove you have met at least once in the last two years.

  6. I'm curious. Are you implying that Ronald Reagan was simply an insincere actor who had no love for the American way, the American people, and simply uttered words to placate? Seriously?

I am sure he was very sincere about the words he had memorized.

I cannot comment on his patriotism, I never knew the man personally.

All I am saying is that his years of acting allowed him to be a more convincing president. To deliver his lines in a heartfelt way. I find most politicians utter words to placate. It is how they get votes.

  7. Hi everyone, i'm new here, looking for some answers!

  8. Early finger prints On richmond hwy, Virginia. I got there at 10:30am and was done by 11:17am. Alot of people. But the line was going pretty fast. And they did not ask any questions about me having my appointment early.

I am in Virginia and is that my local office or is Washington? Will I my interview there?

Sorry, where were you finger printed?

For Virginia there are two USCIS field offices. One in Norfolk and one in Washington DC with Norfolk handling a large geographical area.

    look at this link.

  10. I think I'm too tired to feel anything right now but... Part of me is slightly deflated that it took a year of my life to get fifteen minutes of standing in front of windows, but what's the alternative? Would I rather them grill me? No. I'm happy of course but just too worn down to do any more planning until I've had at least eight hours.

Yes, deflated was exactly how I felt. After all the paperwork and waiting for 15 minutes of standing in front of windows.

My wife was so excited on the phone and all I felt was, "Is that it"?

Congratulations, good luck and look forward to all the future paperwork.
