  1. Go to this website, select the link under option 3 and then after filling out your personal info select "Return Transcript" and the years. That is all most of us need to bring, it takes about 2 weeks (I think) to receive it so you likely will be cutting it close to send abroad to get it before the interview (if you haven't already done this part).

  2. Your K-1 was used, but in rare cases they will re-instate it. Must contact the embassy immediately as if they did re-instate, it would only be valid through the original date. I looked into this route as I had a similar experience, only he had left too close to the 90 days and by the time we began inquiring we literally would have had to have him on a plane the next day. If you don't get it re-instated, I believe you would have to start the entire process all over again. Good Luck!

  3. I scanned in and printed both of our passports and all evidence of meeting (boarding passes, etc), then color printed from that at Fed/Ex Kinkos. Any original form that needed a signature on it was the original with original signatures. I never even thought twice about it at the time. To me copy/scan is the same thing. Maybe I was just lucky? I'm not sure. But I didn't actually copy anything.

  4. You won't need to cancel, you would update your address and request your case be handled wherever would then be the consulate that handles your new address. This is not ideal, as I've read stories of paperwork getting lost in transition and such, so best of luck that it will all go through smoothly! Just no need to cancel and pay the fee and wait out the 3+months at USCIS again is all I was saying!

  5. Go elsewhere to get married! The rules were different here in Florida by county. In Osceola county, all he needed was his passport...nothing else at all. They didn't care about divorce decrees or if he had a fiance visa. As long as 2 people had some form of identity (and a passport was fine), you signed a paper saying you were free to marry and that was it. If you can't find anything closer, head to Florida, lol.

  6. Hello! My former fiance was Peruvian living in Spain. The only thing necessary was the police clearance. It was very difficult and took a lot of time to get it from Peru (very simple to get the one in Spain). Other than that, he needed he brought his birth certificate (legalized), and his passport. I can't even recall if the birth certificate was required or if we had gotten that for the AOS process to be prepared in advance (but you will need it eventually anyway). Everything else is really just knowing your own history to fill out all the forms. I remember for the interview we had to have where he had lived for the past 10 or 15 years and also places he had worked for 10 years, schools he attended (names, addresses and phone numbers, some we had "unknown" b/c they were so far back). If you need to I can fetch my external drive that all the old docs are on to remmeber specifics...Happy Journey and Good Luck!

  7. Hey everyone, so we're going to apply for our marriage license today.

I downloaded the application form and I was hoping someone could have a look at it and answer a few questions...

In the city, county and country of residence questions, I put Ireland, right!?

And, for the social security part... I don't have one yet. The immigration officer told me to wait a week or 2 to get one. BUT, it does say 'Or Alien Immigration number'. Now, I have an I-94 stapled into my passport which has an 'Admission Number'... it has 11 digits. Is that my 'A Number'... visajourney refers to? Is that the number they want on the marriage license form??

    Here it is:

    Thanks!

  8. tax transcripts are free and it didn't take long for them to arrive. I requested 3 years of transcripts and they arrived within a week. Your father in law can call: 1-800-829-1040 to request or complete the request form (I just called the 1-800 number)

    "Automated transcript request. You can

call 1-800-829-1040 to order a tax return

    transcript through the automated self-help

    system."

Form 4506T-EZ, Short Form Request for Individual Tax Return Transcript, to order a Form 1040 series tax return transcript free of charge.

  9. His being unemployed will not matter. My fiance was not living in his home country and had been unemployed for 6 months by the time his interview came time because of the economy. They only care that the US Citizen (or co-sponsor) is willing and able to provide support, assuming the possibility that they may never find work here once they arrive (regardless if they are employed currently or not).

One thing I don't understand, there is no proof of withdrawls/charges made in France because he has an African bank account? I have a US bank account and I have records I can retrieve from my bank (or print from the computer) showing where each purchase was made. If it is not typically on the statement they provide to him, then the bank would still surely have record of the locations he used it somewhere, the transaction got back to the bank, no?

If you think your proofs are not strong enough, is a quick visit to Italy out of the question? Flights to Europe are much less expensive in the winter :)

    Good Luck

  10. I think that is just their confusing way of trying to say that it is necessary if it is not in one of those 3 languages. You will need certified translations when filing AOS, so it wouldn't hurt to get it early if you are feeling nervous, but you shouldn't need it at the interview.

  11. So If we get married in Colombia can she come back with me while visa status is pending? If she had an active tourist visa she could come back with me, but it takes quite a few months to hear back.. So would she have to leave when the tourist visa expires, or can she stay while we wait to hear?

For the CR-1 she could come back with you on the tourist visa she already has, and would have to leave before it expires. Her interview and medical, etc will be in Colombia anyway.

  12. Thank you. We are trying to fill out the SS-5 form applying for the SSN. We have difficulty on answering the question 5 of the form about the CITIZENSHIP Legal Alien Allowed To Work

Legal Alien Not Allo wed To Work or Other[/u] ?

    Not allowed to work.

I wish we had waited. We went to the social security office right away, I even explained that we were just trying to get the SS card ASAP, that I could come back in 11 days if that would be better. They entered all of our information, and THEN told me that I just delayed us 8 weeks by not waiting 10 days! I said, I will come back next week then, and was told it was too late. she had already submitted the application. Are you kidding me? The only thing I kept reiterating was that we were doing whatever was necessary to get the card/number ASAP so that he could get a bank account, etc set up ASAP. I didn't want an 8 week delay, I am already off next Friday, so I think I may go back anyway and see if they can verify him in the system and get the ball rolling again.

  13. The most voted couple.. how sad. :(

The most voted doesn't win, they are only reading the 50 entries with the most votes (I guess so that they don't have to read thousands of essays), so I am trying only to get to #50, and hopefully our story takes it from there :) It only allowed me 100 words to answer, so I couldn't completely explain the entire story. yahoo, gmail and hotmail only allowed me to create a couple of accounts each before they all cut me off

  14. Smells of a spam barrage.

It's only Crate and Barrel. And they haven't sent me but one email since I registered (and it goes to my junk mail anyway). I am just hoping we get enough votes to be one of the top 50. I am hoping our international love story wins the judges hearts after that. (unless more VJers enter too, then I might be out of luck!). Right now #50 has only 469 votes. (#1 has like 12,000 - crazy!). My only goal is to SOMEHOW get to #50, and hope our story takes us the rest of the way! I know a lot of people have a separate email address for 'spam' type signups. It only needs to be from a valid email, not necessarily primary one.

I hope you have a dream marriage. That's what most important.

I know I will, but to have an even DREAMIER DREAM wedding would be fun too
