  1. I think most community college will allow you to teach as long as you have your master's degree. Universities aren't as accepting. I have my master's in Bio and I currently teach at a local college in Maryland. I know a lot of new immigrants or visa-holders teaching at the college and they only had to show their certificates.

Maybe its different state to state though...

  2. Ohh...no wonder it was so damn busy down there yesterday. Took me over half an hour to find a parking spot around Dupont Circle...

There was also the Lupus walk on top of that... then three big sports games in the evening!

  3. Funny story--well not if ur a guy, lol. My cousins husband went in a few yrs back to get snipped after their 3rd child was born! Procedure took place right at the DR office. DR told him that he may feel some "discomfort" during the procedure. So the DR (so he thought) freezed the one side and snips snips! Guess he wasn't paying attention to the patients face as he was grimacing in pain!!! DR then freezes the 2nd side and NO PROBLEMS!!!! Patient asks when he was going to snip snip the 2nd side, and DR stated the procedure was complete!! lol Turns out the Freezing on the first side didn't happen, lol so he was in extreme pain, but didn't want to say anything, lol

    *WINCE....*

  4. We participated in the MS 5k Walk at DC today. We took the metro to the site (in front of the Canadian embassy too!!!), which meant we had to be up at 5:30 to make the trip to the metro and then to DC. My husband, who never wears brightly colored clothes, actually wore the orange MS t-shirt I made to show support for his cousin who was diagnosed with the disease in January. I am really touched :) It was a beautiful day to walk, and it meant a lot to his cousin that most of the family could be there.

Now I am back at work trying my best to keep my eyes open!

  5. Me too!!! Pocahontas and Lion King ones were the best! I had a bunch of Casper ones too.

OMG!!! I had a TON of Casper pogs!!!! I think they are still in my dad's house too... My brother had whatever "boy version" of pogs back then... we spent all our allowance on them!

Wow this entire thread had taken a life of its own!

  6. Wooohoo Huggles! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm collecting pictures for the wedding, so I just happen to have a TON right here.

Also, I was the cutest baby ever, so enjoy. =P

    AWWWWWW VARBA.

"Stan, why won't you be friends with grandma?--Grandma is in the hospital and you won't be friends with her!"

LOL!!! Reven, I was thinking of the same South Park episode when I read that post!!!

  7. oh god my husbands 79 year old grandmother decided to get a facebook.

She doesn't get it at all, she doesn't realize that her name and face show up beside what she writes so she need not sign off on every post with "love granny" and then she started friending all of my husbands friends.

LMAO!!! I almost spit my coffee after reading that...

I went to the House of Lords once... my friend's hairdresser does a fantastic job on her hair so I asked to make an appointment to have him do my hair. Well he didnt show up and I got stuck with this other person... who thought Id look cute with anime hair (ie. chunky, choppy cut, with BRIGHT RED STREAKS all over). Mind you, I knew I was getting highlights and I told her SUBTLE... but she disregarded all of it. I actually loved the look... but I just could not face 48 biochemistry students sporting anime hair, so after I paid 200 dollars for my hair, I went to shoppers to buy black hair dye and went home very poor.

Hair Cuttery is not awful, just depends on who cuts it. My coworker's stylist does a magnificent job (cut/color) on her hair, though the stylist worked on a chic salon before going to Hair Cuttery. I've only had bad experience with them, so I am never coming back! Good luck on your appointment Krikit!

  8. Sam, I think employees are typically asked if they want to continue with the company's insurance for another year at the end of the calendar year (or maybe the date when the company signed on the insurance company). I dont know if you are able to leave the insurance once youve committed to this year's coverage.

  9. Sam, are you sure the GP couldnt prescribe you BCPs? Mine did -- but I also had my old ones from Canada and brought them to him and told him, I need more!!!

I called Planned Parenthood shortly after I came here as I was worried I wont get to see a doctor in time to get refills and they will prescribe pills for a reasonable cost. But you have to get a physical with them first (which you have to pay for), and at least the Baltimore one can only give you the pills they carry.

  10. Wedding went off without a hitch, even with the dogs barking their agreement in the background! David and i were both nervous, i DID NOT trip down the stairs woot! and i got tipsy off two glasses of wine! lol.

As the best man was filling up out champage glasses, i here my MIL ( who is a minister and a salvation arm officer) say "thats it! get the bride drunk"! :o

i almost choked on my drink lol. Oh and the oven perfectly timed with our FIL pronouncing us husband and wife! Right after he did that and started introducing us as mr. and mrs. the oven beeped...yep

Ahhh for once in my life everyting just seems serenely beautiful and perfect. :luv:

Awww Kimbear, best wishes to you and your husband! I am so happy your wedding is as beautiful and as intimate as you wanted. Ive read that the food you cooked was fantastic -- it seems like you consider a budding career as a caterer if you wish to ;) I am so happy for you! *BIG HUG*

  11. Sam, you can get an individual plan. That is what I did -- my husband gets a full health coverage from his employer, but we would have to pay for mine (which would be almost 300+ a month!). So I went on an individual plan with CareFirst Blue Shields (excuse me, but #### you CareFirst Blue Shields hehehe they are holding our money hostage but thats a diff rant) and pay 73 dollars a month for insurance. I have a 30 dollar copay for PCP and 40 for specialist, etc. We might change my insurance because they did something wonky with me... but Im insured and we are not paying an arm and leg for coverage :P

Also, my in-laws have told me that I can choose to only pay for catastrophic insurance (not sure if that is the legal term for it). This means you are insured in the event of an accident and will have coverage for medical fees, etc. I am thinking of doing this as I basically see my doctor once a year and am not in any prescription (except for you know). If you choose to only get catastrophic coverage, your rates will likely be less, but you'd be paying full price for visits.

  12. Announcement!I almost feel this deserves it's own thread. lolhttp://www.starbucks.com/thebigpicture For more infoBring a reusable travel mug to Starbucks tomorrow (April 15) for a FREE COFFEE

I missed it :( I completely forgot to bring my travel cup, even when I reminded myself to pick it up when I swung by the house earlier. Oh well, hope everyone had a some good coffee!

I AM in the burbs!!! Are you saying this is the cheapest they get?? It's like being in Canada! I don't want to pay Canadian prices in the US of A!! crying.gif:hehe:

Hmm I should have asked how much a mani and pedi cost there! And which suburb you are living in!!! In Columbia and Ellicott City, the prices tend to run between 10-25... but if you go to the shadier areas, you can get 8 dollar manicures... although I wouldnt want to go there :P

So been a while again, but just some news to post....BROKE MY FREAKIN BIG TOE! :lol:John and I were 'sparring' at TKD (non-contact...ha!) and we both kicked at the same time. I kicked his ankle and CRACK! I heard it, he actually felt it. :crying::wacko: Funny, my big toe doesn't hurt as much as the index toe that I severely sprained and looks deformed. So I get to do the crutch thing for a little while. Good thing we just did belt testing and I already know my form for the next belt so I won't fall too behind :D

Oh no J&K!!! Hope you feel better!

And Marilyn, gosh it seems so stressful to know you have to go to surgery... but to have to do research to get the best price adds even more stress!

    Congrats on the GC LGG!

  13. Raven, can't you borrow a Canadian car seat for the time you are still in Canada and then use the one you bought in the US to move to the US or in the US?

Obviously this is a smarter question that my baby-borrowing one...

  14. I definitely agree with maternity leave. My friend teaches at the college I work in and she is one sick puppy with a cold. I urged her to take the day off and she said she can't, because she has no maternity leave as a full-time instructor... so she is saving all her sick days for when she gives birth. My jaw dropped. And her husband gets no paternity leave. WTH??? Is she just expected to pop baby out and bam, go back to work? I was told that other full-timers get 2-3 weeks off, but even then, gawd, you haven't recovered from giving birth in that short period!

  15. I hope it's ok for a black dress. If I don't find something else, I may have to wear one, ( with white polks dots... :P) to my son's wedding in October!

I think it's okay to wear a black dress! As long as your demeanor is not for a funeral but for a wedding ;)

So my hubby's firm holds an after tax season event and is taking everyone and spouses/SO's to a nice dinner and piano bar next Saturday. Hubby just informed me that two of his colleagues are booking a hotel right across from the steakhouse we are going to, as they plan to get really drunk that evening. LOL! Accountants gone wild!!!
