the reality of life is no government like ours can self-sustain itself under the guise of liberty, because everyone has a different definition of what liberty is.
The problem with our current setup, came when people started trying to control on a federal level what other states are doing.
The whole point of the United States per se and to use an old term, is that we are all 'seperate but equal' - We all live under the constitution, but are free to live our lives as we see fit otherwise. So many federal laws though over the years have trumped that and have torn it to shreds creating one big massive federal government. Which was NOT the original intent in the founding of this nation.
There again, you should know this. Anyone with a basic knowledge of American history should know this.
The point of the second amendment, was that if the Federal government became too big, if it became too overbearing upon the people of this nation, then it would be the people who would have the capability to stand up and overthrown the government to try and put one into place that restores said liberty to the people. This is the basic foundation of our nation and the rhetoric today makes it seem like that is something so evil. It's an idea that was passed on to us for the hope that we all would not become slaves to an out of control government. Look at our debt today and tell me this government is in control? I'm not talking about parties, I'm not talking about politics, I'm talking about the overall government itself. We can try and change the way it is politically, but if that doesn't work, we have two options. We can become complete slaves to the state or we have he option to fight back and take back what's rightfully ours. THAT is what the second amendment means.
Those who would jump in now and shoot random politicians are fools and idiots. All they do is increase the power of the state, so that 'we the people' are less armed and less capable of doing what is necessary, IF necessary at one point in time to FREE ourselves once again.

Yep. There's an anti-immigration movement that is well document, although not well publicized by the mainstream media, and part of their objectives is to infiltrate immigration websites like this place to spread their propaganda. They are the same people behind these anti-immigration laws like one passed in Arizona and they found the opportune moment with our high unemployment to direct people's anger and frustrations onto immigrants.
Anyone interested in following the money trail should read the reports by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Could be. But in the five years that I've been here and traveled the length and breadth of this country I have, NEVER, to this day, felt any sort of this 'hatred' that you speak of. Instead I've been graciously embraced and made to feel very welcome here.
Of course, that could be because I bother to speak the dominant language, I make reasonable attempts to assimilate into the American way of life. I chose to respect the laws of the land -- even the ones that I found kind of stupid such as no drinking under the age of 21. I understand fully well that I'm a guest here, this is not my 'home.' I don't march in the streets with fellow Indians flying Indian flags and demanding my 'rights.' I have nothing against Mexicans or Hispanics but this is simply my opinion as to why this wave of migrants may just be more 'hated' (to use your word) than the others.
Look, at the end of the day, it would nice to let in any and everyone who wanted to come to the US. However, that is neither realistic nor practical. As far as I'm concerned, this has nothing to do with 'race' -- I don't think that being 'hard-working' or 'looking for a better life' should be an excuse for breaking the law, no matter what race you are. There are plenty of hard-working people in Bangkok and Calcutta who would give their right arm to be in the US -- should they be given a free-pass as well?

Well, that's a pretty obvious statement to make. The man with an illegal Mexican spouse/child in the country has a 'skewed perspective.' The illegals voicing their full support for the bill--certainly they aren't the ones with a balanced perspective either. Of course, our world-views are shaped by our experiences. When I was in college, I was pretty 'meh' about illegal immigration. It wasn't anything that concerned me directly, in fact, I remember being terribly amused about the vitriolic debates that'd take place in Politics class. Now it does (affect me directly) and I feel like I have a strong and informed opinion about it. One that I am entitled to, having undergone the process. And I'd wager that most legal immigrants feel pretty strongly against an amnesty, of any sort.
It's not about 'walking on coals' or such. It's not as if I suffered a great deal--sure, the waiting and the time apart was a PITA but our case was a relatively smooth and easy one -- nothing compared to some of the horror stories on VJ. For me, it's about right and wrong. Legal and illegal. Fair and unfair. Those are things that are pretty black and white to me.
The main reason for my opposition to the DREAM Act is the fact that it would be counter-productive. It tells other poor Latino families that as long as they just get their foot across the border things will be alright. That their children will at least have a shot at a better future, even if they, themselves, don't. The USA goverment will, in another fit of bleeding-heart-idiocy, pass another similar act in a another decade or so--all they have to do is wait it out. It simply encourages law-breaking behavior and induces illegal immigration. When or where does it end?
I know plenty of people who are against this Act -- they are natural born USCs and it isn't as if they have non-citizen family members to skew their perspective. I am fairly curious to see your explanation for some of the others (on this thread, for example) who have voiced their disagreement with this Act. Are they all bitter and resentful, too? Don't tell me they're all racists and baby-haterz.

So these (up to) 29 years old illegal alien "children" encompassed in the failed DREAM Act get you emotional? At what point do you stop giving a free pass to "children"? What about the "children" being smuggled into the USA tonight? What about next week, next month, next year, etc.?
If you didn't get it already, these "children" are being used as props by the usual suspects to cast a wider net of inclusion. At what point does this madness stop?
After personally witnessing the bloviating from the usual crowd in the first 1986 "one time only" illegal alien amnesty I'm somewhat jaded, skeptical, and unsympathetic.

Of course I am being facetious to mask what I really feel. After 7 illegal alien amnesties encompassing 25 years and millions of illegal aliens while rewarding them with the chain migration of millions of their relatives after breaking numerous long standing immigration and workplace civil/criminal laws. Along with these jokes called "Temporary" Protected Status that have protected millions of illegal aliens for over a decade for breaking numerous immigration and work authorization civil/criminal laws..."somewhat" is an understatement.
If the masses of American people were truly informed of the history of this stupidity and madness by our government along with the shear numbers...they would freak out. Unfortunately, ignorance and propaganda driven indoctrination is bliss. Where is the so-called mainsteam media? I'd call it the lame-stream media like Bernie Goldberg does. The facts are out there. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about illegal immigration, but not to the facts.
These repeated amnesties fix nothing. They are just carefully marketed ploys. In the past they were slipped into broader legislation that went under the radar screen. Now they are marketed because the cat is out of the bag.

Here is the question I have in response to this:
Why is it the responsibility of the US Government & Taxpayers to make right what these kids' parents did wrong? Shouldn't that responsibility fall onto the country where the children have legal status (are citizens)? I'm working my a$$ off to support my family and this government (no matter how broken and dishonest it is), why should I have to support them also?

The Dream Act was an attempt at a backdoor Amnesty Act. Anyone who denies this is either uniformed or lying.
It's well known that the true age (under 30) and educational status (anyone could lie about being in school) of a "Dream Act" applicant could not be reference checked and verified by the US gummint, based on available man power of gummint workers for the sheer # of expected illegal immigrant applicants.
The Dream Act was a sham from the get go.

This fee covers all vaccine(s) if any needed, why in the world would you pay twice and most likely much more, then $213 bucks. That's foolish and unnecessary.

If you are a citizen and identify yourself to the officer by name, when you witness a crime, are victim of a crime, or commit a crime... how does that violate civil rights?
It is fairly obvious that most of the nay-sayers about this Arizona law are those, perhaps here legally, but that support, encourage, or help family members, friends, and others to come here and stay illegally.
National ID Card act didn't go down in flames it is still smoldering and will probably ignite if the Arizona law gets broken up.
Don't see why someone couldn't just take pride in carrying an ID Card that identifys them as a citizen or resident of the greatest country ever to exist on the planet.

What Steven does is because groups like FAIR and so forth might support this for their own reasons, he automatically invalidates the opinions or logic of others and assumes we too must all just hate immigrants or brown people.
It's also funny to me that he supports the worker but also supports the exact thing that is driving wages into the ground. Furthermore, refuses to ponder why every other country with a high standard of living for all workers, coincidentally have diametrically opposing views to his own on border and immigration. Maybe they're all racist too..
My family is in construction in AUS. The ongoing joke is that I send illegals to AUS so they too can pay blue-collar workers $10 per hour, rather than the market rate of $25 to $50 paid there to residents. I wonder why the rate would be so high there versus here? Quite simply, Supply and Demand. Now what does an endless number of workers do to supply? What does displaced Americans do to demand?

Who cares whether you think they are in crisis or not? Illegal aliens should not be making immigration policy for the USA. And that is exactly what happens when they enter our country illegally and use counterfeit and stolen documents to work illegally or, at worst, just drop in to commit crimes. The fact that there are hundreds of thousands of them in just one state of Arizona and millions of them in the USA is an outrage. If that isn't a crisis I don't know what is.

    A good read.....
This was written by a native of Mexico who is now a naturalized US Citizen. It's a great explanation of the illegal immigration issue.
"If you had tickets to a sports event, concert, Disneyland, or for an airline flight, and when you got to your assigned seat you found someone else was in that seat, what would you do? You would call for a person in charge of ticket checking and have the person in your seat removed. You would properly be asked to show your ticket, and you would gladly and proudly do so, for you have bought and paid for that seat. The person in your seat would also be asked for a ticket, which they would not be able to produce. They would be called "gate crashers" and they would properly be removed.
Now in this huge stadium called the USA we have had millions of gate crashers. We have been asking security to check for tickets and remove the gate crashers. We have been asking security to have better controls in checking at the door. We have asked security to lock the back doors.
Security has failed us. They are still looking the other way. They are afraid to ask to see the tickets. Many people say there is unlimited seating, and whether there is or not, no one should be allowed in for free while the rest of us pay full price!
In "section AZ", of "Stadium USA ", we have had enough of the failures of Security. We have decided to do our own ticket checking, and properly remove those who do not have tickets. Now it seems very strange to me that so many people in the other 49 "sections", and even many in our own "section" do not want tickets checked, or even to be asked to show their ticket! Even the head of Security is chastising us, while not doing his own job which he has sworn to do.
My own ticket has been bought and paid for, so I am proudly going to show it when asked to do so. I have a right to my seat, and I want the gate crashers to be asked to show their tickets too. The only reason that I can imagine anyone objecting to being asked for their ticket is that they are in favor of gate crashing, and all of the illegal activities that go with it, such as drug smuggling, gang wars, murder, human smuggling for profit, and many more illegal and inhumane acts that we are trying to prevent with our new legislation. Is that what I am hearing from all of the protestors such as Phoenix Mayor Gordon, US Rep. Grijalva, even President Obama? If you are not in favor of showing tickets, (proof of citizenship, passport, green card, or other legal document) when asked, as I would do proudly, then you must be condoning those illegal activities."
Written by a US Citizen, Globe, Arizona .
