  1. Thanks for the info. To follow up, I called USCIS this morning and confirmed that you do inform POE. Then make sure to contact USCIS if you don't receive the welcome letter at that address and report the change to them at that time. They cannot take the change at this point, not until they are physically in country with their I-551.

Now, hopefully this thread will come up in a search for the next guy that comes after me :)

  2. Well, after a bunch of complicated maneuvering, my wife and stepson have their plane tickets. Most permutations were double or triple the expected price, but we ended up with the following:

    1. I won't be going to Peru to get them :(

    2. Luckily her best friend (the one who introduced us and lives near here) is in Peru now and flies back on 02/15.

    3. I was able to get flights on the Lima to Houston leg okay, but not the Houston to Seattle.

    4. Trying to just making Lima to Houston arrangements was a bust (more than twice as expensive and the airline "couldn't" give us direct to Houston... she would have to go through Newark, NJ, of all places....

    5. Checking on doing national one ways for me to go to Houston to meet them wasn't too expensive, but I noticed that the Houston to Seattle flight on offer was the same one we had wanted from the get-go.

    6. Made reservations for them on that flight (with our common friend).

So, she has tickets for Lima to Houston, and then two separate itineraries to Seattle (one via Newark, and one non-stop). Doing it this way only added 120 per ticket (plus baggage fees, if my wife can't convince the airline to check the bags through in Lima).

Oh well, not really how we wanted this to turn out. But, my baby will be with me on the 15th of next month (oh happy belated Valentine's Day!! :)

  3. Howdy all. My wife and stepson have their visas in hand (as of yesterday 01/15). We are in the process of working out travel details now. At the end of the month I will be moving to a larger apartment (to accommodate my growing family :) so the address will change (just the apartment number, though). Who do I let know of this change at this point:

    1. USCIS

    2. NVC

    3. Embassy in Lima

    4. Just inform at POE.

    5. All of the above

    6. Some combination of the above.

    7. None of the above

    ???

Thanks in advance (and if this is in the Wiki, please guide me to it)...

  4. Just got a call from my lovely wife. The good news is that the visas are in hand. The bad, I fear that her visa has set us off on a long odyssey of name issues (sigh). They have decided to try and put both of her last names (Spanish speakers use paternal and maternal last names, but you can just use paternal) plus the "de Lybrand" part, which is how they show married names. On her visa it cuts off at "de Ly". I bet that's going to take the better part of the two years leading up to lifting of conditions to get sorted out...

Additionally, I will be moving to a new apartment at the end of the month (getting a larger place here). As such my address will change (but on the apt no). Who do I inform of this change? The embassy (probably not)? NVC (also probably not)? or USCIS (that's where I put my money)? The change will happen before POE...

  5. Appreciate your quick response and sure will follow the instructions and will follow the process quickly. Any questions, surely to post for clarifications. I keep checking VJ most of the day.

    I have one more question.

I am currently in look out for new job and not working currently. Does it affect the CR1 process?

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Tanvee

It may when you get to the NVC and have to file the Affidavit of Support. You may need to get a co-sponsor, depending on your income. It won't affect the initial I-130 part, so you should go ahead and get that underway post haste. It will likely take USCIS 1 to 5 months to process that before it even goes over to NVC, so much could happen in the intervening time.

    Good luck.

  6. Sounds like they got it!!!!:thumbs:

Yeah. I am pretty sure it's all over, except for the shouting. I just wanted it to be more conclusive. Oh well, it will be come the weekend. Then I will pop the bubbly with my folks. Today, friends have invited me out to hoist a Guinness or two (or three), so I am off...

    Mark :)

PS. When my wife was here, she loved, absolutely loved, Guinness. She innocently asked, "Do you think I can get Guinness in Lima?" (The answer appears to be no or maybe with great difficulty.) Anyway, you gotta love a woman who loves a Guinness :)

  7. Okay, well, sort of anti-climactic...

They were in the embassy for 3.5 hours. She had 3 interviews, my stepson one "interview" (they didn't ask him anything). They asked all kinds of stuff (where we both worked, how old we were, when we visited each other, if she spoke English (no) oh does he speak Spanish (yes) where did he learn (Germany) Germany?!? And he was married to a Colombian before... oh he was married before? (yes) were you? (no)... How is it possible that you got together since you live so far apart? (her best friend lives close to me), etc, etc, etc).

They asked for pictures, they asked to see my divorce decree.

After everything was said and done and they had done fingerprints, they took their passports, canceled their tourist visas, told her not to make any travel plans and to call on Friday. If everything is okay with the prints, they should get their passports back on Saturday.

So, I get to wait a little longer, but I think the big hurdle is definitely out of the way.

But, dad blast it! I wanted to just know already..

  8. D-Day is (almost) here at last. We feel confident everything we'll be alright and I'll be joining my bride before the month is out, but last-minute jitters just won't quit :P

Keep us in your thoughts, guys, hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with good news

I am with you, brother. My lovely wife and my stepson have their interviews tomorrow in Lima. If you think the last-minute jitters are bad now, just think what it will be like this time tomorrow as we wait for a phone call :)

  9. Good Morning Mark...usually it's the hepatitis B series that is 3 vaccinations..I wouldn't worry about not being done before the interview. I am sure she is not the first one that didn't have the series done before the interview! Getting the first one is usually the main thing, I am sure they will let her follow up the rest of the vaccinations once she is here in the US.

Just make sure she has her vaccination record so she can get the rest of it done!!

Good luck! I am sure she will do great at the interview!!!

Isn't that the way it goes with passwords???~~ Are you bringing your wife back with you when you come back to the US? How exciting!! :star:

That's what a BlackBerry password keeper is for (said the guy addicted to his CrackBerry)
