Ok, so I know I may be getting ahead of myself here, but my husbands EAD will expire in 1 year. Do we have to apply again in a year? Or will they just issue a new card? I just assumed that the EAD would be good for 2 years like the AOS. Thanks!
Congrats! Usually the Ead is kept on the interview date because you don't need the EAD after you rec the Green Card.

Q: I have my interview scheduled for 12/4 @12:30 pm...I have a son (5yrs old) that'll be in school (kindergarten til 2:55pm) and a daughter (2 yrs old) that's at home with me...Is it ok if my daughter came to the interview with us? Don't have anyone to watch her, thought about keeping my son home from school and bringing him also but figured might as well leave him in school (we should be through with the interview by the time he gets out...the office is about 45 mins from my house)....What do you guys think?/ Will they frown upon it if my daughter is with us?
I think it should be ok but maybe you should find out from USCIS just to be on the safe side.

JeffandDona,
I'm sure you'll be fine...Just bring everything that's listed on the interview letter, which should be all the applications and supporting documents you sent in...also don't forget both of you passports, pictures, bills (with both your names, bank statements) anything that can show comingling of assets etc...
My hubbie threw away alll the bills because he does not like junk in the house.
LOL super
why would he do that...I think that's insane...is there anyway you can go online and get printouts of them (I know you can for the bank statements) not sure about your utilities (you can try) or call them and ask them to fax you a copy of the last statement...tell your hubby it's ok to keep min 6 months worth of bills and statements (that's the rule of thumb) anything else he can throw out...
Thanks. I went online and I printed some statements and bills. It is so annoying. He keeps throwing everything. He keeps only two week paystubs.

Received my Interview letter in the mail today!
me too, me too.. for Jan 22nd.
when is yours?
Dec 17th. Congrats to all those with good news. JJ I am sure your interview letter will come soon.
Thanks! It's only a month!!!
Why I must wait 65 days???
I was hoping for Xmas in Alps.
buuuu...
JJ... I had a dream...yours is coming..
Yep only a month and I don't have anything to show because my husband is such an idiot.
He has been throwing away all our bank statements, bills, etc... because does not like to keep junk in the house.
I know that he is a neat freak but I never imagined that he would get rid of them. Anyway when I asked him why on earth would he do that and what good will they do us in the trash he replied "Listen, listen the immigration officer can't tell me that you are my wife ok, I will go there and tell them just that. THIS WOMAN IS MY WIFE!"
I hope that works.
Wish me luck guys.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My SSN number has been ordered and i have the letter of confirmation, however i am having a hard time getting employment without the number in my hand, i get hired and they say we'll start you as soon as you have the number. Well, driving there was a 1 time thing, the social security office. They are open 9-4, my Wife works 8-4 mon-fri, my mom in law works from morning until night and my sister-in-law has full time state school and 2 part time jobs, so im kinda screwed. Is there any wall i can call and give my receipt number and have them tell me my social up front?
They will not tell you the number over the phone for secutity reasons so you have to go in person to get the the number. It sucks that they open from 9am, in New york they open from 7am. I am pretty sure that you will be receiving it this week though.

Good day all,
I have a bit of bad news and wouldl ike to know if any of you guys here on VJ have experienced it.
My wife and I filed her AOS application on 7/16/08, recieved her EAD and AP in September 2008. We recieved a NOA dated 10/27/2008 advising us that there is an interview set up for us on 12/18/2008 at 1:00pm. Up until here is all dandy. TODAY 11/17/08 we recieved another NOA from USCIS advising us as following:
" This is to advise you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have canceled the previously scheduled interview on Thursday, 12/18/2008 at 1:00pm for the above applicant. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. You will be notified of any future action taken on this case including any rescheduled interview information, under seperate notice"
Well, I have already asked my job to take off that day. My wife who has been staying home for the last four and a hallf years at home, because we could not file her papers until I becamse a citizen in June of this year, finally she got her work permit and found a job in this economy. She told the employer she will not accept the job offer if they will not let gher off on 12/18/08 for her green card interview which they agreed. Keep in mind the job has not started yet, she will start training on 12/8/2008. In this economy, it is hard to find a job let alone having to accept a job and insist on taking off before even taking the job offer, and get away with it is incredible. Keep all this in mind and accept what USCIS is telling you (We regret any inconvenience this may cause!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
My question for the VJ friends is: Did anyone go through similar situation? Scheduled for an interview and been canceled by USCIS (Due to unforseen circumstances)..... anyone has been rescheduled for another interview after being canceled?
Thank you in advance,
Hope this gives some comfort: when my husband was waiting for his interview (for citizenship) his interview was cancelled 2-3 times...each time it was cancelled they later sent another interview date in the mail...so no worries...they probably just over scheduled...

This is such a dumb question, I know, but I need to ask... I'm setting up an account on the USCIS to track my case status (can you do that for AOS?), and it's asking for a case number. What exactly is it? The application number? USCIS A#?
I got an RFE (ARGH!) back in September - AFTER my biometrics - and the packet was sent off to Missori and received October 20th. I got a notice in the mail about a week ago saying that my case was then transferred to California earlier this month. I hope they bloody well got the packet I sent too. Anyway, does anyone here know what California is like with processing AOS cases? I've been seeing around the site that I'll be approved without an interview because it's in Cali. Is that true? O_O
The case number is the receipt no. Congrats on all approvals!
I got my learners prermit today. Got 19/20 on written exam

congrats on all approvals!

Mine, yours should be arriving around 2 or 3 weeks from now..
Many people rec their interview about a month after they rec their EAD so Hydey might be right.
sorry I meant JJ might be tight

Oh no!! I feel so bad for you!! It's the kinda thing I would do - saying that, I tried a few numbers before mine to see if they showed up online and they don't so someone else can't track their cases online either
You silly goose ..
Thanks for the congrats! I'm very happy about it. I think we're going to start seeing more and more interview letters coming this way.
I am just worried about the fact that my husband is now officially unemployed since he quit his job. He just recently went on and got a job with a competitor company, but he had to work in CA for 30 days then come back to FL. However, we ended up being there for 1 month and a half and they said that was no work in FL yet.
So... considering we have a house, car and bills (lots of those) here in FL, didn't make sense to stay in SD, so we came back.
Now I don't know what's going to happen. I tried reading on similar cases and it looks like I have to bring a new I-864 to the interview and they have to approve it then. So hopefully, and most certainly he will be working very soon and making just as much money as before so we can qualify without any problems. But that still concerns me.
Does anyone have any advice/inputs about the situation?
Received SS card in mail today!Yay! Congrats!
tThank you

Hi everyone,
Congratulations to everyone who got their EADs and approved ones! I, too, am so eager to work . I might die of boredom.
I got a letter from USCIS today- Request for Applicant to Appear for Initial Interview...now this got me confused. I havent received my EAD and AP yet and I got this, and it says INITIAL interview. Is it normal to get the interview appointment first before the EAD and AP? And is this letter the "one" interview some of us are waiting for? It just sounds to me like I will have a series of it cause of the word initial.
Hope someone can help with it. Thanks.
Jen
Congrats. I think that's how they usually refer to the first interview, because some people are sometimes asked to go for 2nd interviews. Otherwise you shouldn't worry about the term 'Initial'. And wow, you are lucky July and even some June filers havent recieved their ILs yet. what is your local DO?
several August filers got interview letters already

PASSED written test for DMV...(got 7 wrong), my road test is scheduled for Feb. 5 (in NJ you have to wait 3 months after receiving permit b4 allowed to road test)
on another note, went to WAMU bank to get added to hubby's accounts and credit card and they said that my ssn didn't "check out" yet...something about social security admin. have to notify banking system of it before they can do anything (I think that's stupid, seeing as i'm able to use it for dmv) and that i should try back in a few weeks...don't think i can wait that long but then again i'm already on his other checking account (at a different bank) so i guess as long as i have 1 i'm ok...
You dont really need a social security number to add your name to your hubby's account at wamu. You can always do it now and submit your social later. My hubby and I opened two accounts there after we gor married in Feb. I opened two accounts with them before I even knew my hubby.
That's true but you'll be added as a "non-resident" and required to submit a foreign address for their records... and doing it that way you'll only be an "authorized user" and not a "co-owner" of the account...(my hubby works @ commerce/TD bank so i hear all the banking lingo LOL)
The customer service rep said all of the changes happened since being bought by chase and that she can't even override that option (if she could've she would've)...i'm already on his commerce account so i guess i'll wait & see what happens with wamu in a few weeks. If not then we'll just use the commerce account as one proof for interview next month
Thanks for the info my friend.
