  1. We had the exact same situation. Although my fiancee was in Cambodia, and I'm sure there might be some differences. We tried to reschedule , but was told that we cannot rechedule, but to just go to the interview as scheduled and they will instruct her further. She did this and they just told her to come back to the embassy as soon as she was ready (she did not yet receive all of our "proof" in the mail from me yet), anytime after 2pm. We had no problems. But it did make me a little concerned. Anyway, it worked out fine. Good luck with calling any embassy in asia. It seems that you never can get in touch with a real person and wind up in an endless loop of recordings!! Good luck in your journey!

  2. I am a male USC older by 18 years. What I really feel that makes the difference is how old you LOOK. Not the age differences between the USC and the SO. We've all seen those that "match" and those that you think...WTH??? If you look young and you are older than your SO, then it looks fine. But if you look like grandfather and grand daughter...then....well, to me, seems kind of ......well, it makes you think.......hmmmm....

  3. Face it the whole process is slanted in favor of white couples , who use visa waivers to visit all during the relationship. Those of us with a partner from a non white area have to hope that partner has several times the average income from that country just sitting in the bank for years to be able to visit us. This process doesn't come anywhere close to being equal and without prejudice. It favors older white men bringing younger partners. It favors white couples.

No no no! Visas and the USCIS have nothing to do with racial issues! That is such old world thinking and its hard to swallow that you would even suggest that. It is simply meant to ASSURE that the potential immigrant has sufficient ties to their home country, so that the US and the home country is SURE that they will return and follow LEGAL procedures! Not all immigrants are NON-White!!

  4. Necessary vs not necessary. I sent my letter from the bank. It they want it, they have it. If they don't want it, they have it anyhow. I had rather send too much than not enough and get a RFE. To each their own. This is a long and expensive process and I believe in furnishing what they want, what I think they want, what I want to send that is not mentioned. So far, so good in this process. I know their are ones who send less and get approved. I am happy for them. One never knows who will review their case, which side of the bed they got up on, good mood or bad mood, which instructions they are following, etc. The choice is yours, but I would send the bank information. Good luck on your journey.

Well said!! There are too many here trying to take short cuts and the easy way with too little work. Do the work, give them more than they need and get these crazy processes behind you so you can live with your fiancee!!

  5. Hi,

we had the same problem and I could not get around it any way I tried. I did try to save it and reprint in notepad, but as you said, it is not in Yahoo Messenger format then. I just printed the first page of every chat and submitted that. It still showed that we chatted almost everyday and it worked just fine for the interview.

  6. I worked at night for about 6 months last year. It took some time to adjust...maybe a few weeks, but after that time, everything seemed to feel a little more normal (never feels completely normal). It felt kind of like I was in perpetual jet lag for a week or so though! I don't think humans were made to work this way, but look at it this way, in times like this, you do at least have a job now! Rest as much as you can, when you can, and it will get better soon enough. Good luck in your transition.

  7. Sorry to hear about your situation. He is abusive. You dont need a man like that an #########. Wait until your approved in your petition. Where are you in US?

Hey, I don't mean bad when I say this, so please don't kick me too hard :innocent: , but although I am agreeing with everyone here: this guy is bad news and playing the typical "player" role very well and the OP should not be just weak and put up with it. Get strong and tell him whats what!!! Then when he's sees what he's losing, maybe he will shape up. My point is though, why do SO many filipina girls always say........"just wait until your petition (free ride) is approved, then leave him" ?? Why not cut your losses now and move on! It's not about immigration, its about saving a life. She did not say, but maybe she does not have family here, but I am sure she does in her home country. If she leaves him, she needs support. Lots of it! Stop making it about "trying to stay in the US" and make it more about what is best for her. I don't mean to sterotype or generalize.......but just my observations.

  8. Congrats on her arrival. Have a read of the guide for people adjusting from K1 visa's. You will not be contacted by you local service center, it is up to you to file for the next step at the correct time.

Once you are married and you have a copy of your marriage certificate you can then file for AOS and EAD and AP. All is explained in the guide.

Use this time to read the forms and start filling them in so you can file as soon as posible after you are married.

    Good Luck

Thanks! Do you have a link to this guide?

  9. She arrived last week. After a few days of cold, wet snow, some cancelled flights and 2 days of lost power in the house, things are finally starting to feel more normal! Yesterday, we applied for her SS card. They said it would take about 2 weeks to receive and we will, of course, be married within 90 days. My question is , whats next?? :help: Will I receive further instructions from immigration or my local service center? I have read some of the instruction pages here on VJ, but I am still not too sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all who have helped with our process so far!

    Marc

  10. Well, my fiancee finally made it here! She's sleeping now....kind of drunk from jet lag..haha . She was scheduled to fly from her POE, Atlanta to Spartanburg, but that never happened. Her flight home was cancelled. I drove the 3 hours to pick her up. If not she would have to have slept in the airport until 1pm tomorrow and even then they could not ensure a flight! To beat all, on the way home....its snowing like mad! Anyway, she's here and safe. Kind of ironic.....she left Cambodia yesterday with 90 degrees and arrives in the middle of a snow storm. Kind of cool.

  11. How exciting!! I'm sure neither of you are able to keep your feet on the ground! (Well, of course she's in the air anyways!) Best wishes for a safe journey, and one that's on time!! :star:

Hey thanks. A little nervous now though cause just at about the time of her arrival, we are supposed to have some bad weather...snow and wind. Haha, kind of ironic she left 90 degree weather just to arrive in the middle of a snow storm!!

  12. UMMMH, I THINK ONLY ROBOT CLONES WORKING THERE

Hey, keep up with me and you will be able to relate very shortly

OH,Ialmost forgot the one rude as hell ####### with the thick asian accent!!

You are very close to guess it right

To make it easy for those who came from all the international flights though LAX. Do you remember most of the immigration officers there?

    Do you take drugs?????

  13. You just mentioned the thing that bothers me the most: Being stared at.

My wife comes from a part of China that is not a tourist destination and rarely has western (Caucasian) visitors. I've got you beat on the size difference, I'm a 6'4" former linebacker. Add to that a big beard, and I am so noticeable that people actually hang out of passing busses and go out of their way to get a look at me.

The people are, for the most part, just curious and almost too friendly. Everyone seems to know one word in English: HELLO!!! They seem very happy when I smile and respond with a hello. So, the problem isn't that the people respond in a bad way. The problem is there are SO MANY OF THEM, and they are all wanting to say hello to me.

When I first arrive, it doesn't bother me too much. But, my stays are typically for a couple months (or longer). By the time I leave, it feels like a physical pressure every time I go out of the house.

When I get back to America, I always take walks in places like a mall: Just to be in a crowd and to be ignored. It's refreshing.

Yes, I understand your feeling! It was not so bad in Shanghai or Nanning or Guangzhou, but in smaller cities....Luoyang , Kaifeng and Shaolin it was more noticed. When I got back to the US....the first place I went was Waffle House. Just had to have a good ol' greasy American breakfast!!

  14. I do understand the OP's comments! I spent some considerable time in a few small cities in China before. Their sense of personal space is mostly non-existant! It's nothing to look a foot away from you to see someone starring at you intently for what seems to be FOREVER without even blinking.....AND all the while...picking their nose with reckless abandon and thinking nothing of it!! Walking down the street and trying not to step in all the SPIT that seems to be incredibly common, expelled from as young as 5 year old kids to as old as 90 year old ladies. Never understood the spitting thing. I guess for the most part, it's just different culture, different upbringing and just overall different life experiences. I assume it's all about tolerance and if we are in another country, just have to accept it. But I do understand your feelings!

  15. if your wife has dsl/high speed internet try Magicjack.com it cost only 20.00 a year and she can call or you can call with no additional cost.

    MagicJack :dance::dance::dance:

I'm curious about that. I thought about getting that too, but did I read that magicjack only works for calls to and from the US only? Does it work for international calling?

  16. Hey, I had the same problem before.....stacks of used calling cards that were too expensive to use in the first place, poor call quality......AND, in the end, I had no real proof to use for my petition! Now I use an online card from www.uniontelecard.com It's cheap, wonderful customer service and best of all, you can print your call logs by date! Shows time, date, length of call etc.
