Hi all!
My Cambodian mother in law wants to visit us in the US. She will soon fill out the DS-160 form online with the help of a translation company in Cambodia that is supposed to be familiar with this process. My only question is that they are telling her that she needs a letter from her daughter and son in law (me, US citizen), stating where she will be staying and for how long, and take it to the interview. I don't feel this is correct. It seems to me, this will hurt her chances of being approved. As I understand, they don't care about who you will be visiting and for what, but ONLY that you will RETURN. Am I correct? Thanks for any help you guys may provide

Hi all,
My wife is from Cambodia and has her 10 year green card. We would like for her mother to visit us for a few months. I would greatly appreciate any tips, hints and information about what we need to do from the US or she needs to do from Cambodia. Are there specific forms that we need to initiate from here, or are all the forms started from Cambodia? Thanks for any help that you guys may provide!

This was the same question I had, and TBone answered it for us! I don't have a will or power of attorney, but I do have a financial, tax-related, and several vacations to Mexico. I think Leidys and I will not opt for the affadavits, either.
Yes, I agree. I think we'll just mail without the affidavits.

This is a fair and very common question. When I asked it of a very sharp immigration attorney, he said that affidavits are an option for people whose other evidence is very thin. You would not need those, then.
Do you also have wills, medical powers of attorney, etc.? These would be nice to add to the good evidence that you already have.
Thanks for the advice!

Hi all!
Just a quick question about providing evidence of the relationship for the I-751.
My wife and I are preparing our I-751. I have quit a bit of proof including Joint bank statements, insurance, 401k and pension plan papers showing my wife as beneficiary, joint power bill, cable bill, church news letter addressed to both of us, emails addressed to both of us, 20 or more pics and so on. In the instructions sections of the I-751 is says that we can use sworn affidavits from at least 2 people who have know both of us throughout the relationship. My questions is: do I need to do this or is it just another option of proof? Thanks for any help you guys my provide

Hey guys,
my wife would like to travel to cambodia to visit her family, But Her Cambodian passport has her maiden name while her green card has my last name. Will she get hasseled by immigration when she re-enters the U.S. or tries to leave Cambodia? I don't think she needs anything except her cambodian passport to get to cambodia.
Would it help to take a copy of our marriage license with her to Cambodia?

Hi all,
My wife is planning a trip back to her home country of Cambodia. She has a current, valid Perminant Resident Card/Green Card. She has a Cambodian passport that had expired, but since re-newed. Our problem is that the name on her passport has her first and maiden names listed. The name on her green card has her first name, middle initial and married name listed. Our travel agent is unsure about which name should be listed to book her ticket. We feel there will be no problem to go to Cambodia, but trying to return to the US with a Cambodia passport in one name and a green card that the last name does not match, will cause problems. Anyone experience differences in names like this? Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, that's usually what it means, no interview.
Thanks! Have you heard of any time frames for green card issuance from California if there is no interview. My wife is a little nervous about it. I have read it could be 6 months to a year. But just want to see what you say from what you've seen here. Thanks

Hi,
On December 3rd we got a letter saying that our I-485 had been transfered to the California Service Center for faster processing(live in South Carolina). As I understand, this is a good sign and may not require an interview. My question is: how long should this take before we receive any more information. We have not received any more information since December.

Hi all,
Got a letter today saying our I-485 package has been transferred to the CSC and that office will notify us of the decision on our petition. From what I read here, this seems to be a good thing. Any other thoughts or experiences?

Hi all!
In completing the I-131, I noticed in Part 7 it says: "On a separate sheet of paper, explain how you qualify for an advance parole document, and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole. Include copies of any documents you wish considered."
I have read over the instructions for the I-131 and I am still unclear what I would need to write on a separate piece of paper. How do I qualify? What circumstances? Copies of what documents?
Also in reading the instructions, under General Instructions, Photographs, Page 5, it asks for 2 photos of the intended immigrant. Does this apply to those applying for Advance Parole or am I just reading something that applies to other purposes?
The instructions are a little confusing and any help or extra tips would be greatly appreciated!

It is (or should be) relatively easy... Many here have used DR L.E. Arnold to do the transcription.. His office does it via the mail for about $30. If you call his office they will advise exactly the step and info they require.
Do you have the number for Dr. L.E. Arnold? Is this doctor the one in Texas?

Hi all,
I am in the process of entering my information on the I-864. I have 2 minor children who I have full custody of and receive weekly child support for. Where should I enter the information about receiving child support on the I-864? I am sure this money would help offset my income and assets for the 125% poverty line qualification. Thanks for any help!

Doing I-485 now and maybe thinking TOO much......but when it asks for "family" name, which one do I use now that we are married. Do they want her family name like when we did the I-129f or my last name? Maybe its obvious but I want to make sure!!
thanks guys!!
the name you want as your family name on the greencard
Thanks~ Would that be the same for the G-325a as well?

Is it my correct understanding that the 4 copies of the G-325a are for the intended immigrant ONLY,or do both fiancee AND fiance have to send in this with the AOS package? I remember that both had to send this with the I-129f. Just making sure!
thanks!

Hi all! I have a question about filling out the form for advanced parole (I-131). I have read that it is good to go ahead and send in this form when you send the I-485 AOS package. I have read over the "guides" section and looked at the example forms. My question is: on the example form it asks for a specific date that my fiancee will be traveling to her country and when will she need to be admitted back in to the US. But we have no exact date. Are we just doing this just "in case" she needs to travel back for any reason or is this for specific trips? A little confused and don't want to leave anything out that is critical to our AOS package.
Thanks,

DS-160 requirements for Cambodian Mother in law. Correct info?
in Tourist Visas

Thanks guys for your comments. I will go ahead like most of you have suggested and write the letter. If she needs it, it there and if not she just doesn't use it. I tend to agree with aaron2020. There seems to be so much mis-information in other countries in regards to the requirements needed to come to the US with any type of visa. There's always someone's brother's cousin's aunt's friend who got a visa this way or that way, and the info is passed around so much that its all wrong and outdated. Thank goodness for VJ!!
