On one of your NOA's, there should be a code.

I thought so as well - the lady said not to worry about it, though.
We tried to do that - they would not start him working without the SSN.
When he went back into SSA to request a new card and to have it sent to our PO box, the lady casually laid a piece of paper on the desk, told him "I'm not allowed to give you this, but I have to go get a piece of paper off the printer, so if you happen to see a number on this paper that I am absolutely not supposed to give you... so be it" and she walked away. He quickly jotted down his SSN, and when she came back she said "Yes, I definitely cannot give you this paper" and shredded it with a smile and a nod. I don't know this woman, but I would love to send her flowers lol

We were able to get hubby working starting Tuesday night, and we are just waiting now for the replacement card to come. The lady said 7-10 days, so I'm watching our Informed Delivery like a hawk. Checked with USCIS and the green card is being produced as of Jan 29.

I forgot to add, since his SSN card was issued I think there is a way he can look it up online and get the number.  If he gives the employer his SSN number and his green card (or that temporary stamp in his passport) that should work for employment.   I’m pretty sure permanent residents don’t get I94s so he will never have one.

I got approved at my interview yesterday. I can't believe this process is basically over. Just waiting for my passport to arrive in the mail and I'm free!

Do you have a MyUSCIS account?  You can track from there.  Also, sign up for USPS Informed Delivery.  I could see the envelopes from USPS before I was notified by USCIS.  Otherwise, it will be the one you paid the fee with.  The I-130 is essentially the past - you've moved onto the DS-260 and now have the I-551.

Update: Entered the US 4 days ago and went to the local social security office this morning. I showed them my passport and stamped immigrant visa. They gave my SSN on the spot.

Also, I drove down to the border to enter as an immigrant for the first time and have my immigrant visa stamped, I then immediately drove back to Canada. And 3 days later I flew into the US and showed the border agent my stamped immigrant visa, no problems at all. No need to wait for the physical green card to leave and re enter the USA, your stamped immigrant visa is your temporary green card.

Ok phew! Thank you.  I guess the DMV just weren’t used to seeing it this way.

"D/s" means "For the duration of stay".  Yes, the dated stamp is the endorsement.  That visa is now a temporary Green card for a year or until the plastic one arrives.

I haven't seen them enter a "D/S" before.  However, I don't think it is a problem.  The stamp indicates you entered on 2/1/2024.  The endorsed visa acts as a full-fledged Green Card for a year.

BTW, I have seen them put a variety of dates.....I think you are fine.

CR1 is 2 years so I think the first one was correct.

Do you have an ADIT stamp I 551. https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-related-news/temporary-status-documentation-for-lawful-permanent-residents-lpr

I did not go that way, but I think the I 551 is all they need immigration wise, plus proof of identity and residency. Most States issue a list showing what is required.

I had my interview this morning and as far as I could tell their IT systems must have been working again because he told me I was approved at the end of the interview.  And a couple hours later my case status changed to Issued.  I was surprised it all happened so quickly!  Did your wife get an update yet?

I brought all of that stuff and they had a little locker I could store it in while I was upstairs.   I brought my wallet upstairs, but no phone, watch, key fobs or earphones, they went in the locker.

I got my passport back today - yay!
But I can’t pay the immigrant fee on the USCIS website.  I keep getting “unexpected error”, I’ve tried a different browser and triple checked that I am entering the right numbers, but no luck.  Is there an issue with their website right now?

It took us about 30-40 minutes at the crossing; we did a land point of entry.
The only notification we got after issuing the visa was that it was ready for pickup. There was no tracking number provided. Two business days for delivery for us.

No phone or watch.  Wallet will be fine.  Take a book or magazine!

I'd leave yourself 2 hours for secondary.  It doesn't usually take them long to pull your documents from the repository, but it does depend on how busy secondary is.  Better to have too much time than not enough!  Especially with the ridiculously overbooked flights!

My husband went with everything but the kitchen sink - both our birth certs, his divorce decree, the death cert for my first husband; our marriage cert, his son's birth cert. Copy of his military discharge, RCMP check, my taxes/W2s... The immigration officer wound up only asking for and taking four things: his divorce decree, the death cert, our marriage cert, and my taxes. Double checked our address and contact information. That was it. So while I wouldn't say only bring those four things, I also will say that you shouldn't need to stress over it. As the officer told him, if something else were required, or if they wanted more docs, they would have told you before you were DQ'd.

Husband picked up his visa about an hour ago - USCIS Immigrant Fee is paid - we are set for moving day on Friday! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

And just FYI: when paying the immigrant fee, it was a little confusing because all of the documentation says you need the A Number and says that it is formatted  "A-XXXXXXXX" and will be in the upper right corner of the paper handout detailing how to pay the fee. However, this is not the case; on the Visa that is put into your passport, it is the Registration Number in the upper right corner, below your Case Number. Just thought I'd put that out there, in case anyone needs it!

Shades8 reacted to Daft_Cat in The dreaded DS-5535 thread for Montreal. Post here and support each other (PART 2)
I'll preface this by saying that your chances of not getting a DS-5535 are higher - especially now (it seems like fewer people in our boat have been showing up in this thread). I don't see why the issues you brought up would make a DS-5535 more likely, given that the majority of candidates seem to get them randomly.

Remember that a lot of this (apparently) has to do with capacity issues at the consulate, as well as the backlog that formed during the pandemic - both of which may be improving. For those of us in Canada, the Nexus travel program encountered similar processing delays (generating lots of negative press) but has improved a lot over the past year or so. Having said that, it seems like everyone (including immigration attorneys) are really just guessing based on trends and hearsay - the whole thing is a bit of a black box and no one knows for sure.

My advice to anyone in your shoes would simply be to not get ahead of yourself with planning for the future. My wife and I had waited a long time for an interview date, and our case was about as clear cut as they come. There were no obvious reasons to expect any hiccups or red flags and we had even begun planning the specifics of our move given the timelines around entering the US upon receipt of the Visa (I was coffee chatting with contacts at target firms in the US, my wife was checking out neighborhoods, etc.). We'd also been holding off on starting a family for a couple years knowing that a huge transition was imminent. It may sound like first-world problems, but the result is that all of our plans were upended with no certainty around timelines. I ended up wishing I had just known in advance that there was a decent chance this might happen so that I could have planned for it.

The system is not functioning as it should right now, and you can't take any of the usual Visa timelines as gospel. Chances are you'll be fine (and I wish you the best of luck), but stay weary and avoid cementing any life-plans until you've got your visa in hand.
