1. Question lang my fellow pinay about my SSN...

after 2 weeks of my entry here kumuha n ko ng SSN

now that I am married need ko ba bumalik pra ipabago

yung surname ko to my married name? mg e- xpired

yung I-94 ko this end of the month.

thank you all...

Yes you should but what i did was I applied for my SSn after we got married to have my married name on my SS card. Then I went back to the SS office as soon as I received my green card for them to replace my SS card that authorized me to work.

Your Card will be marked "NOT AUTHORIZED " for work pa till u get ur green card..correct me if am wrong ppl.

I applied for my SSN after 1 week of my entry. Then went back to SSA after we got married to changed it to married name..on my ssn card it says "Valid for Work Only with DHS Authorization".

Once I receive my greencard..I will go to SSA again to inform them about my status from temporary resident (K1) to permanent resident so they will update it to their records and have them remove the restriction on my ssn card.

P.S.

You need to change your SSN to married name before your I-94 expires. At least 3weeks before it expires,or else they will tell you to come back when you have your EAD or GC already.

What if my immigration          status or citizenship changed?
If your immigration status changed or you became a U.S. citizen, you should tell Social Security so your records can be updated. To get your immigration status or citizenship corrected, you need to show documents that prove your new status or citizenship. Only certain documents can be accepted as proof of citizenship for new and replacement cards. These include your U.S. passport, a Certificate of Naturalization or a Certificate of Citizenship. If you are not a U.S. citizen, Social Security will ask to see your current immigration documents.

2. Hi to all... :)

May nabasa po ako d2 na about "reporting marriage".

Simple question lng po, do i still need to report our marriage to phil. consulate in here(US) if we got married in PI and i used my husband's surname in my passport already when i came in here ???

Confused po ng kunti...

Thanks po... :)

if you got married in PI you dont need to report it sa consulate jan kc dba meron ka ng copy of your marriage cert from NSO yun lng mga married sa US ang need mag report sa PI consulate yun lang nman ang pagkakaintindi ko :D

yan din pag kakaintindi ko hehehe... since you're married in phil and of course they have your copy coz you registered your marriage there sa NSO... you should be fine... for us K1's we have to report our marriage in phil coz we got married abroad...

Yes, my passport has expired and I filled out all the forms in my married name. In your case, you can always get an amendment because your passport is good until 2013. But if you want to use your married name in your passport na, $25 for amendment and $50 for a new passport. Either one, but you still need to do a report of marriage and that's $25 too. Do the report of marriage, and the amendment or a new passport at the same time if I were you.

Thank you.Yes I will do it at the same time na.Report of Marriage and Amendment. Also I will apply a Philippine passport for my daughter as well because that will make her dual citizen.

Salamat uli.

4. Teach your husband to be a doctor, (u know what i mean) I did that when my husband missed out a figure on his I-134 and I did it perfectly. Di na nila mapapansin yun, just make sure you use same color of pen hehe.

Just let your husband to fill up the item that you forgot to answer and change the last number of his birth year.Yun lng nman eh..hndi nman yung buong form.Di na nila mapapansin yun :)

Ang mahalaga is yung signature mo.

Sayang din ang 2,400.

5. Does the magicjack good for cellphone also?or just landline?I google it and says it can be use for canada and USA only. You can use in PI also?

Thanks...

Yes its good for cellphone and landline. You can call PI for free using magicjack if the person u are calling in PI has magicjack too,if the person has no magicjack, there's a rate for that. But if you will use it to call within US and Canada its free and unlimited.Plus with magicjack, you will not have monthly bill. You will pay once and thats good for 1 year and you can renew it again.

6. Hi guys! Mr Bill and I went to San Francisco to the Philippine Consulate today to get my passport renewed and report our marriage. We got all the forms online from the Consulate website and filled those out. One copy of the application for renewal with 2 pictures we had done locally and copy of my ID. We also filled out 3 copies of the Report of Marriage document with three copies each of the marriage certficate, of my NSO birth certificate, and of both our passports data page. We also brought with us a USPS Express Mail stamp ($17.50). We got there by 10:30 am.

The first place we stopped was to see the Information Officer. He checked our stuff and he didn't think that the passport pictures we took were good enough. The quality was okay, but we took a blue bed sheet with us for the background and you could see creases and wrinkles on the sheet. So that didn't work.

So we went downstairs at the embassy and got the pictures redone for 12 bucks (2 copies). We went back upstairs and within 5 minutes it was our turn to go to the passport desk. They check all our stuff again and everything was okay. And then she made me sign the forms and took my fingers prints. She also looked at my original documents: Passports, NSO Birth Certificate and Marriage License (Certificate). The last thing she did was to give Mr. Bill a USPS Express Mail envelope to put the stamp we brought with us on the envelope and address it to ourselves because we opted for my passport to be mailed to us instead of driving back to San Francisco in 6 weeks to pick it up.

It was only about 11:30 and we could have left then, but I was still worried about the thing with my name and they suggested we get a One and the same document. So back to the information guy. We photocopied 2 copies of my green card and passport on the same sheet of paper and we got a new number to wait our turn again. About 20 minutes later, we went to the Legal/Visa counter and talked to the guy. He tells us we were bad and I should have put my given name as shown on my birth certificate on my green card. Oh well, so we requested a One And The Same document and head over to cashier and paid an additional $25 on top of the $50 we paid for the passport and $25 for the Report of Marriage.

Then came the long agonizing wait. Two and a half hours laters and both our butts were sore. I guess there's only one guy in the whole consulate that could sign all those documents and he finally showed up. We got out there about 3pm.

We're done. Now we just have to wait. But what's new?

Did you filled out the application form for renewal of passport in your married name or maiden name?Is your passport about to expire or not?Coz my passport (maroon) will expire in 2013 but I want to change it to my married name so when we go to PI for vacation,my passport will be on my married name already. Also I want to report my marriage and do it both at the same time, coz we live far from Phil.Consulate in Fort Lauderdale,FL.We are in Florida too but its 7hours drive to go there.

7. Did you fill out the forms I-485,I-765 in your married name or your maiden name?If you use maiden name in all the forms then that will be show on your greencard.

My visa were in maiden name too because I entered US by K1 and also my passport. But when I filled out all the forms,I used my married name and also I submitted copy of marriage certificate.

Its not because in your passport and visa are maiden name. They are following what's on the forms you filled up and submitted them.

8. Congrats Destine :star:

Received my Welcome Letter in the mail yesterday, also today I received my EAD card in the mail.

Now,waiting for the GC..it says I will receive it within 3weeks...I hope it's true.

I hope you card comes quicker than mine, i'm still waiting!

Thanks.Yes,I'm hoping.Anyway,it says on the announcement that there will be 8weeks delay of permanent resident cards.Hay-yay-yay

9. yes maam via Continental Airlines.

i so am thankful that i found this group.

Thank you Guys!

Happy Trip!!!

10. Since im in the philippines... I get to see my asawa ko, but recently uh she might be pregnant... how is this going to effect our K1 petition?

If her K1 will approve soon and have her medical and interview at least 2mos before she give birth then she can travel and give birth here in the US.May I ask how long she been pregnant now?How many months?

If just in case she give birth there in the Philippines, then you guys need to report the birth of the baby at US Embassy..in short..you have to go to CRBA Process like my daughter in order to get her a US Passport.

11. Not a long way to travel, have fun! =) And goodluck with the pregnancy =)

Cant I set up magicjack here and call them? Or does that only work the other way? Cuz my sister's in-laws have magicjack and she called my cell here in the US once using it and she got thru fine

My main goal is to be able to call cellphones in the phils as economically as possible. If there really is no cheap way, I just want a reliable connection. No luck with that so far.

Yes you can set up ur magicjack here and you can start calling your family on their magicjack number for as long you want.

12. If you just get your child a PI passport, you dont need to get exit clearance bcoz that will make him dual citizen.

He is automatic dual citizen bcoz he is a native born of Philipines by Filipino mother and American father ..thats what BI told me.All you need to do is show his Philippine passport and US Passport at NAIA and thats it..no more exit clearance fee and penalty.

Anyway,in my daughter's case,i just found out about it too late already..i mean we dont have time anymore to get her a Phil.passport bcoz our flight was in 5days when I went to BI for her exit clearance so the BI told me that just bring her NSO BC with me here in the US and just apply a Phil.passport for her at the nearest Philippine Embassy/Consulate so next time we visit Philippines, she can stay longer when we want too w/o penalty and no limit.

Happy trip!!!

14. Congrats bluemist. That was really fast. Did you arrive here with K visa or visitor visa?

Thanks dracoasa. I arrived here on K1 Visa.

Congrats Bluemist! I'm so happy for you.

As for us, we already received our RFE letter. They asked for my full medical exam saying that it's been over 12 months since I had it prior to K1 admission. Yes, they're right but it wasn't 12 months yet when they received our AOS application. We had medical exam at the Philippines on 4/23/08 and they received our AOS applications on 3/26/09. But we can't argue with them or else no GC for me. While for my son, they only asked for TST from him which confuses me cos we had the same medical exam and submission date. But again, we always need to satisfy what USCIS asked for, no more, no less.

Good luck to all of us!

Thanks andyjona.Im sorry to hear about your RFE.I have a friend of mine too who just had her RFE about re-doing full medical exam. She had her medical in PI Sept.2008 same month I had my medical too but still the uscis wants her to have medical again.Another thing, when its immigration purposes, they dont take insurance,so they spent around $320 just for her medical at the civil surgeon.Anyway, she said she didnt submit I-693 along with her AOS application..she only submitted DS-3025.

In my case,I went to a civil surgeon,he looked up on my vaccination supplemental form and he saw that my HPV 1st shot were past 6mos.already so he told me to go to our doctor to have my HPV 2nd shot so we dont have to pay $150 for the shot if I will have the shot on his office,he said USCIS dont take insurance for immigration purposes,so then he transcribed my DS-3025 to I-693 form sign and sealed it and gave it to me the same day and charged me $25 for that,he just told me to go to our doctor, took the shot and fax him the proof that I took the HPV shot..I submitted my I-693 sealed envelope along with my applications and a copy of my DS-3025.

Another VJ member here too (K1 and K2) filed their AOS and it been 6months now, they just had their RFE 3weeks ago about full medical and they re-do it and sent it to USCIS,but last Friday, she told me that USCIS sent her another RFE again when she checked their case online...now she's waiting for the RFE notice in the mail so she can find out what they want again.

Im hoping for the rest here to have a smooth process and have approval soon.

God Bless us ALL!!!

15. no idea how long it would take - i do remember aussiewench telling me not to leave the poe without the i-94 for this very reason.

eta: i'd suggest she try what previous posters said about going to a dhs office and see if she can get one there, if not, then she'll have to go with the i-102

Thank you charles!..I called my friend already and told her about this..she will go to the nearest uscis office in Ohio on Tuesday.

21. if she goes to the DHS office on the same day she will have her I-94 with no fee at all. I called the office first before I went there and they told me to just bring my passport, she should call them first too. Tell her to take note of her flight details just in case she has forgotten she needs this info in filling up the I-94.

There is no contact numbers of USCIS or DHS in Cleveland,OH...they only have the address.

Anyway thanks for the info.I just sent her a message about this.

Salamat jamesNrei :)
