  1. Hi all

Im a bit worried, hope you can help. I was just going over what I need to take to the medical tomorrow morning and the Knightsbridge doctors website says I have to take a completed IV18a medical questionnaire. Ive never recieved this document. Is there anywhere I can download it from?

    Thanks so much guys

  2. I am still deciding what to do about my things. I'm thinking of taking some extra cases with me on the plane and then getting the rest later. Or I might do a few boxes of books and things shipped. I have some antique furniture which I would like to bring over but at the moment our first house doesn't have much room for more furniture so I might leave it there for a little while.

I can't decide! Are you taking a lot?

    Lynne

I am going to fly out with a couple of big suitcases with clothes etc but need to ship everything else. Ideally Id like it to be picked up before I leave then arrive a few days after me. Im not taking furniture but quite a lot of other things that mean a lot to me - like art, photo albums, books, DVDs etc. It all adds up, even tho Im being quite ruthless at throwing things away/selling stuff on ebay. Ive no idea how much it will cost - hoping to get help with shipping quotes as Im no good at picturing how many packing boxes I'll need....

  3. Good luck guys - I had my medical last week. It was a lot less stressful than I thought it would be - in and out in about 50 mins - most of that waiting around to be seen.

My interview is on the 5th Dec - a week tomorrow!

Oh thats good news - I was getting worried. Hopefully all will be straightforward.

Good luck for your interview Isma :D

PS Have you looked into international shipping? Im rubbish at organising this type of thing...

  4. Interesting. My hubby and I have discussed all these things over the 3 years we've been together. I think some of this is quite fundamental stuff and Id be worried if couples hadnt talked about them. Having differing opinions on such things could have an effect on long-term compatibility.

I already earn double what he does anyway so that issue raised its head before we started dating

  5. Congrats!!

And thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I feel I know a lot more about the actual steps that will take place on the day which is really useful. Thanks again

  6. Hi - how did you arrange your medical? Do you have to have a letter or just know the date and call?

    Hi Isma

Ling Ling is right. I found their contact details from a link on the London embassy website.

    Web: http://www.visamedicals.info/us.asp

    Tel: 020 7486 7822

All you need to tell them is your name, dob and NVC case number. They didnt even ask when my interview was.

Im sure you can sort one no problems

  7. I just arranged my medical today.

Hannah+Vito, the Knightsbridge doctors told me to bring along vaccinations records so I think you'll need something. If not I think they may decide to give you vaccines there an charge you for them.

Id reccommend finding out the name of your GP practice manager and write to them directly. I didnt get anywhere with the doctors, nurses or receptionists themselves but the practice manager wrote back with 2 days. I believe it's part of their duty to respond to patient requests regarding copies of their medical records.

I also offered to pay money if required (they can charge for this if they want to), I didnt get asked for money but the fact that you show willingness may help. Good luck

  8. Somthing really worries me and for some reason you guys don't even comment on it is election result.

Do you guys think it may effect our situation at all, I mean immigration and our spouses situation?

I doubt the election result will change the situation of people in this thread with regards immigration. The new president wont be in situ until January and we are all nearing the end of the process anyway. I work in a government agency and believe me even when there's a change or leadership promising big changes it takes months, sometime years, to impact on the day-to-day processes.

For those who are CR1 there could be changes by the time we apply to remove conditions but I wouldnt be surprised if not. For those aiming for citizenship further down the line, they could see some changes, depending on who takes power. But in the short term, I dont see anything changing.

I think any impact we may feel will be in other areas unrelated to immigration e.g. the economy (will arriving spouses be able to get jobs?), taxes (will we get more incentives/windfalls now we are together?) etc. Just my two cents :)

  9. I have to admit I have never tried entering the US since applying for visa - we've met up in Canada instead or he's come here as we didnt want to run the risk.

I dont know if it's because Im British, but I always sailed through POE when visiting him before. I was never asked to show my return ticket or produce any evidence. I was once asked how long I planned to stay (21 days, couldnt get more leave from work) but that's it. From reading some of the experiences here I guess I was lucky
