  1. Ok,

I am basically going crazy with the joint sponsorship thing, the guy who earlier was ready to be my joint sponsor is going through his drinking spree right now and not coming to work and all those things which had to happen right when we got our approval notification.

Anyways, we are trying real hard to find someone else as joint sponsor, now my question is, how long am I “responsibility” of my sponsor/joint sponsor, I think its 1 year, but my husband says its 3, can someone tell me what exactly is the time frame?

  2. You can't really have him on your bank account, but you can try asking your land lord if you can have your husband with your housing lease, you can also have your husband with your insurance policies. Other bonafide proofs can be things like western union money transfering reciepts, phone bills, postal letters along with the stamped envelop, if you are sending him packages or him sending you any gift packages, emails, chat transcripts.

Since you are from Pakistan, I am not sure how banking works in your country, but you can ask your husband to go to his local bank and ask them if he can have you jointly in his bank account. At least it worked for me through Axis bank in India, all I had to do was get my husband's signature on their bank forms.

  3. We provided a few things for bonafide relationship other than marriage certificate and the basic forms

--a few postal letters to each other

--gmail tax transcripts showing we chat every day (mind you, not the actual chats, but the dates only)

    --phone bills

--his accidental insurance papers, where I am the beneficiary

--my life insurance paper, where he is the beneficiary

--my voter id card & also my state id card, where my husband's name has been mentioned

    --a few emails

    --10 photographs

  4. India doesn't allow dual citizenship, but PIO and OCI(overseas Indian citizenship) are replacement for dual citizenship.

With OCI you can travel in and out of India anytime you wish for and you can also work here, other than government jobs or things like you can't run for any political position, but you can buy land and other sorts of things.

But basically its you who needs to decide do you want to give up your Indian citizenship or not, you only hand over your Indian passport after you have been granted citizenship of any other country, in your case it would be of USA.

Check this site for further knowledge--> http://www.***removed***/nri/dual.html

  5. Try calling at different time, and keep calling, of what I have noticed you are much luckier at night hours (ETD) compared to calling at morning hours to get hold of your IIN.

Do call a few times and see how it goes, it will be much better to pay online rather than going the slower route.

  6. Here is the sample, do change it accordingly.

    To whomsover it may concern

I, XYZ S/O ZYX, permenant resident of "your address", citizen of United states of America, do hereby solemnly afirm and declare the followings \:-

    1) That I was born on "your date of birth" at "place of birth" and have attained the age of maturity.

    2) That I have never been married/Or I have been married but I have been seperated and divorced from my spouse for the past ---- years.

    3) That I agree to marry "Your fiance's name" D/O "her father's name" of "her address" as per Indian law and fully support her.

    4) That I will be held responsible regarding any fault of this wedlock arises in the future. I am giving this confirmation of acceptance of marriage.

Solemnly affirmed and the statement made above are true to the declared before me to the best of my knowledge, belief and information be true by the deponent and I sign on the 19th day of June 2008 who is identified by United states of America.

Notary sign and seal Your sign and seal

    **********************************************************************

Note, that the last para is for the notary officer. This is the usual basic, now I don't know if you both are of the same faith or not, it shouldn't matter if you are get married as Civil law, but if you are first doing customary marriage or getting married through Arya samaj, both of you need to be of same religion.

    Hope it helps.

  7. Well I did receive my NVC case number, and all this time I thought it would be Chennai for us, but its Mumbai.

Anyways, my husband will be coming to India during our interivew (whenever it happens or if it happens), I would like to know, does Mumbai consulate allows the US spouse to be at the interview?

    Thanks for the help.
