  1. MarkGA,

Well everything depends upon which service center are you going through, right now as the trends are going, if you are applying for K-1, vermont is much faster, but if you compare IR-1 or K-3 speed and K-1 speed of california service center then I would say IR-1 and K-3 are processed faster through cali compared to K-1.

Now, there are a few more things to consider before you jump into a decision, when you go to India, Indian marriage system is complicated and takes time to register marriage, do ask your girlfriend to talk to local registrar office and ask what all might be needed and how soon the process can be done, basically things depends upon which state you live in, also you might need to have a notarised statement made from USA, stating your marital status being single and you are of a legal age, just a very basic No objection letter is what you might need, again depends upon which state she is from and how the registrar office in her district works. If you are going through the k-1 route, even though it is much faster comparatively but it is more scrutinised.

Since you still have some time to leave for India, I would suggest you and your girl friend to make wise decisions, make sure you take enough photographs, I am not sure if any of you or your girl friend is a Hindu, but if you are, then please make sure to have at least a small engagement party, with friends and families, and do take pictures, do take receipts from the ceremony hall, hotel guys, also make sure to take the name and address of at least 20 friends who came (do emphasise on friends, more than family), do take other vendor bills too. At least Delhi consulate is notorious of asking these kind of things, even if you get married in India, do make sure to collect these and save yourself and your girlfriend from 221g later on during consulate level interview.

Also if you are getting engaged, make sure you don't take any photograph which suggest that any "hindu marriage rituals", for example things like wearing garland or even wearing small amount of sindoor or things like that, I am not much into rituals but others might help you with it.

All the best with what you choose for

  2. Wow congratulations

    sracastillo,

Check back after at exact 11pm EST, that's when the next update will happen if they have either approved or sent you RFE, that's how it usually happens, one touch in the morning and then automated message and status change (if there is any status change that is) at sharp 11pm EST the same day. Good luck

  3. This is a part of our co-sponsor agreement with the law firm my husband is taking help of, and it concerns me. We have paid them $200 extra for the use of co-sponsor other than their usual fee, but this agreement also talks about finger printing, medical, translation fees. I do understand courier, postage and photocopy fees, but I have never heard of co-sponsor being asked for finger prints or medical. May be I shouldn't read much into it and this might be a standard co-sponsor agreement between lawyer and the co-sponsor, but can anyone clarify me a bit about it. Losing mind with all the money we are having to pump out for the legal "help"

Co-sponsor agrees to pay all government mandate fees as well as other such reasonable and

incident costs and expenses incurred in accomplishing the purposes of this agreement, including

but not limited to outside expert fees, fingerprinting fees, medical fees, translation fees, courier

fees, postage, photocopies, etc. A non-binding schedule of estimated costs and expenses is

attached to this agreement, for the sole purpose of providing Co-spnsor with a non-binding

opinions of estimated costs. All such costs and expenses incurred by "law firm name" on behalf

of co-sponsor shall be billed to co-sponsor and shall be due upon receipt.

  4. geentim,

You should first fill in your timeline, so people can answer you properly

After one week of case completion, you should start calling NVC and ask for an appointment date, usually they appoint dates every second week of the month, and it all depends upon your consulate too.

Again, please fill in your timeline, will help you, will help others :)

  5. Indianheart,

That link somehow didn't work on my computer, also tried from work but it shows the link is broken.

Anyways, I did some more googling and ***removed*** site has the description about it.

    Thanks again

  6. No, there is only one fee for AOS, whether you use a joint sponsor or not has nothing wont hike your price. I am talking solely about IR-1 visa, I don't know how things will work with K-3 or as I see your timeline you are forwarding with both the petitions, but for IR-1 you pay only that $70 fee and also $400 for IV fee

And yes you can take the print out at anytime you wish for, we paid both our AOS and IV bill on 6th of July, it showed pending for one day and on 8th of July they accepted the payment, and the page changed with both AOS and IV receipts, you can also email those pdf format files to yourself, so you can print them out whenever you wish for.

  7. I think I have read it in several places that once your i-130 gets approved, you have only 4 month’s time and your interview at the consulate should be scheduled by that time.

Now here is our situation, i-130 got approved on 10th of June; we have paid our AOS and IV bill and also got the coversheet. Anyways, basically we have a lawyer involved and I have just received my PCC yesterday, so I will need to post that to my husband and since I live in remote islands in India, it will take around 10 days time even with DHL shipping. Basically with the calculations involved and IF things go all right, I think we should get an October date for interview and that’s kind of squeezing into the 4 months mark, will that be a problem or you can always extend your date?

  8. Just wanted to add an input, you can also get IIN through emailing NVC enquiry.

Takes around 5 days or may be more for others, but I just thought of sending an email a week ago to check if they answer back or not and they did with the IIN.

So if there are any new approved cases, you can try emailing as soon as you get your NVC case number, email format will be simply asking for Invoice Identitiy Number along with your NVC case number, both petitioner and beneficiary's name and Date of birth.
