New to forums, soo happy to find this wonderful place full of great advice!
Went to my Biometrics this morning, 10 minutes total including waiting time, they sure were FAST!
Now to wait...
Hi there..can I ask you if you received your biometrics appointment letter with your NOAs? (Actually, this can go out to everyone!) If not, how long did it take between receiving your NOAs and your appointment letter? I can't seem to find this on anyone's timeline, and I'd love to know the normal wait time. Thanks, all!
We just got our biometrics letter today. Check my signature for dates we received everything. It's ironic...I was going to post the same question today and never got around to it
and wallah it comes in the mail today
.

Im getting worried now, a week have passed again, without a biometrics letter on mail
I got my NOAs on mail last 24th, which are dated 20th. The lists shows everyone around my timeline have gotten their schedules already..hope I'll get them soon
Not I!
I hope Monday brings us all good things! Every time I see someone post about them getting their NOA I get all excited and think I'll get mine too... not yet. Every day the waiting is getting harder and harder for me. I just need my NOAs in hand... and my biometrics appointment before offices close for Christmas would be nice too. I wonder if it's because I'm adjusting from a B-2!?!
I might go crazy by the end of this! haha I think I'm driving my husband a little mad too.
Sorry for all the venting folks.
Our NOA's are dated 11/20(received) 11/28 (notice date) (which one do we use?) also and we haven't received biometrics appointments yet either. Maybe this week.

If you don't have any chronic problems and just want to know where to go when you get sick or injured, I'd look into free clinics. Doesn't get better than free. The doctors and nurses that staff free clinics usually do so on their own time & truely want to be there. I'm not sure how it is out by you, but here you'd be seeing the same docs that those with insurance are Paying to see. It's just an idea to get through a rough time until you have insurance.
If you have chronic illnesses that you or he take meds for, call the drug companies. Often they will mail months worth of freebies to patients in your situtation. I've helped many patients with the applications for this in the past.
What about Nick's doctor? Does he/she know about your insurance situation? Some of our docs here will continue to see their own patients & not charge temporarily in that situation. Labs & tests have to be paid out of pocket prior, but the office visit is free and samples are provided when possible.
I don't know what the attitudes of the doctors is out by you, but I'm just suggesting what I've seen happen where I work. It's worth asking. My parents pay for their health insurance and it's alot more than $500 a month. In addition to that any time they need anything there's a huge deductible. It's horrible. I don't want to sound pushy, but personally I'd check out these options (for freebies) before your parents fork out a ton of money which will result in you paying a ton of money for deductibles anyway.
I wish you the best of luck.

LaL is right. I believe Nighthawk misread the reply he quoted by Platypius:
If you look at the pictures, the boy has a genuine smile on his face and doesn't really seem to be all that bothered by it. Myself, I'd rather be around someone like him (means the wolfboy) than someone who would make puking faces about him (means you Nighthawk)
I join the your pukeface smilie was in poor taste club. I don't post often, but geez, you are making a pukeface smilie in regards to a CHILD'S hardship. He's being picked on by other kids and you...a "mature" adult joins in with your pukeface smilie. Pathetic. You must be perfect in every way and have never experienced what it's like to be picked on for something trivial, let alone having an extremely rare disorder that you can't possibly hide.

We will FINALLY be sending our AoS paperwork off this week. How do you check your status online? Do you use the same password as you did while waiting for
the 1-129f to be approved? Or do you have to wait for your AoS to be received and they send a Noa with a case# on it?
Gah I can't wait for all of this to be over. I just want to live life without worry about this stuff.

Check the processing times link above. For Californa it shows they are currently processing 1-130's for alien married sons/daughters of us citizens that filed in June of 2001.
Long time, yes ugh.

I think the issue has been missed here. The problem is that since 9/11 anyone in a federal position has been given WAY TOO MUCH POWER and they are abusing it. It has nothing to do with the age of the flight attendants. I think that point has been made clear by the fact that she was in her 20-30's as Charles stated. They have TOO MUCH POWER and feel no need to use customer service skills, treat us as human beings that have paid for their service, and feel very free to do as they please. DHS and anyone in a position at the federal level seems to be taught extreme paranoia and to use their power in any way they deem fit. They really scare me. They've lost rational thought processes.

I don't think you owe her anything. If she can pay you to help her stay (like the OP says), she can pay for her own ticket back home. You've forked out enough money getting her to this point already. Sheesh!

Bummer about your pills, but there has got to be a way for you to get more. I'm an RN and if you lived closer, i'd get ya a free sample pack of your brand. i'm sure that
if you explained the situation to the doctor they'd help you out. Is there an OB/gyn dept. at the clinic you go to? Your doctor's office would be able to get a pack from them
i'm sure if their office doesn't have any themselves. And there's no reason you'd have to actually see the doctor. The other mention of asking at the planned parenthood clinic
near you is also a good idea. You have the vet bill to prove the story too if anybody gives you any smacktalk.
You would have to act quick. You probably already know, but ... when you miss one pill, you just take the additional pill to catch up, but once you get beyond that you'll
have to use backup contraception for a full month on the next oc pack if you don't want to get pregnant.
good luck! Glad your dog is ok. The hematemesis would have scared me too.

Couple of things..
We do have the poppy thing here in WI. Not sure why they don't anywhere else in the US? I was just discussing these holidays with my husband last night,
like what's the difference between Remembrance day and Veteran's day. Remembrance day sounds more like remembering those who died and Veterans day
recognizes & thanks those who have served, are serving AND those who gave their life for their country. Where I live we've always had a big emphasis placed
on veterans and those currently serving in the military for the 4th of July. Veterans day, not so much (and yes I agree with you all, that's kinda weird).
But, we do have poppies being given out all all the stores and donations taken for the veterans.
There IS a great appreciation for our veterans where I live, but I think that the Vietnam war and the protestors of that war ruined the appreciation many had for veterans in
general. Just remember from a while back (well even now too I guess) when everyone was talking about the war in Iraq...not everyone is supportive. So much negativity.
I realize what the negativity is toward, but it does come out in a way that can be disrespctful toward those serving and their families. I suppose they feel it's not benefiting them directly to have troops in
Iraq, idk. And therefore people in general aren't all fired up about veterans day. It's sad really.
Now about the OP. My husband grew up near Chatham and has been there many times (me too) and it's weird that there's no sign recognizing this man. The sign you see
when driving into Chatham is..."Home of baseball hall of famer Ferguson Jenkins (sp?)" Hubby didn't even know about the man on the $10 bill and that he had lived in Chatham.
Obviously it was before his time if the guy retired to Ottawa and is/was 90 now. You'd think Chatham would want to memorialize him in some way since he lived there during
the prime years of his life. No?

We crossed at Sarnia in June this year. It wasn't bad at all. We had a guy who had never processed a k-1 before so it took
a little longer than it should have, but it all went well. Just know what you're doing and if they do something wrong, politely
suggest the correct way (our guy wanted to give us our packet which they are supposed to keep and send back to USCIS for
when we file AoS. ..he kept insisting until the guy next to him said "yea, we keep that to send". duh! lol)
Good luck, i'm sure it'll be smooth sailing whichever POE you choose.
-
Thanks guys. We'll be filing within a month or 2 and will be just past the expiration of his k1. This makes me feel better.
-
Is there a deadline for filing for AoS after entry on a k1 visa? I've read of many people waiting several months after entry before filing, but wonder if that's fine, or do they run into problems? Is it considered an overstay if you don't file by the time your k1 expires?
-
This is the kind of topic I'd expect to see on a grade/middle school aged website. Not an adult site. Ridiculous.
-
As Carla already mentioned...wasn't this "grilling' on the way back into Canada? That means it was done by a Canadian BO not the US. Do the POE's communicate with each other across the borders? I know that the US POE's keep records of denials in their computer system. My fiance had a few when we got to Montreal (they were innocent denials on our part as we were still learning and the officers did help explain things to us) so we were able to see what they look like when the interviewer in MTL spun his monitor around and we all had a good laugh at the shell shocked look on my sweetie's face (things are always funny later and when being deleted by the official). Neither of us were ever grilled on Canadian entries so I really don't know if the US would have known if we had been.
I tend to think that they (US) wouldn't be aware of this incident when she files her k-1, unless something happened before or happens in the future on entries to the US. She should have her fiance start the filing process for k-1 (if that's the route she's chosen) and learn more about how the POE's function and what their views are on her visiting during this process. Some people have visited successfully throughout the wait, and others (like us, lacking proof of strong ties to Canada) have not. Maybe her fiance can visit her during the process instead and keep their case "clean"...no more lies! It's going to be hard for her to swallow the fact that without those strong ties, she may not be able to visit him for several months, but it's really worth it when you get to that interview and have nothing marring your record. We were in shock when we found out he wouldn't be allowed to enter the US until he had the K-1, but we made it.
As for the length of time it takes, Vancouver consulate is faster than Montreal so you both have that going for you. Our case took from July 07 to June 08 (petition fiing to interview) for a k-1, but honestly we were one of THE longest waits. Literally the last ones from July to get approved. The 7 month estimate is probably fairly accurate.

Are you sure this is going to hold up your SSN?? I don't see why it would as most people aren't given the stamp but they have no problem getting a SSN.
CBR - the SSN office has to verify the document I provided them. With it being stamp "Employment Unauthorized", the office has to contact USCIS. She checked while I was there and my file hadn't been put in the system yet. She told me it can take up to 8 weeks for the verification. So I wait to see what comes next.
Well, my fiance's says "Employment Authorized" and the same thing happened where he wasn't in the system yet (it has to do with how long it your file takes to get from your POE to your local uscis office and when they enter your info, not the auth or UNauth stamp). He got his card in around 2 weeks (after also being told it can take 6-8 weeks). Hopefully and most likely, you'll get yours soon too.
good luck

One last comment - the 1-800 line isn't known as the "Mis-information Line' for nothing. Don't believe anything you hear on the telephone from the immigration answering service if it goes contrary to what is written down on immigration forms or in legislation. The people answering the phones are not Immigration personnel - they are merely workers at a call center reading prepared scripts and have minimal familiarization with immigration procedures or legislation. That is one of the major ongoing complaints many of us have with Immigration - that the Information Line is inaccurate, inconsistent, un-helpful and sometimes dangerously wrong. When you call them you are not speaking to USCIS unless they escalate the call to an Immigration Officer.
I can't agree with this enough.
:thumbs:
Same here! We called the misinformation line way back before filing when we weren't sure what to even file for. Without going into our details (which don't pertain to AP), the information the morons that answer that 800# gave us could have resulted in my fiance being banned from the US for several years!! I do NOT trust them one single bit and it's sad because many people (who havne't found VJ yet lol) call them and trust they are being given accurate info. What further aggravates me is that they aren't held accountable. They get away with giving out this very dangerous incorrect info that can really ruin people's lives and the innocent suffer while they continue to collect their paycheck.
Sorry, this stuff gets me so riled up!

Are you sure this is going to hold up your SSN?? I don't see why it would as most people aren't given the stamp but they have no problem getting a SSN.
When I applied for my SSN the lady there was very confused. She told me the either don't stamp the I-94 which is ok or they stamp it Employment Authorized. I have no idea anymore....no clue where to go. Right now I guess I wait until our AOS, EAD and AP are filed in August
This is correct...people either get a stamp saying "employment authorized" or they don't. There was only ONE person I have seen on VJ who said theirs says "employment UNauthorized" which is very weird.
If you don't get the SSN you can still drive in IL for up to a year on your Canadian driver's license. By then hopefully you'll have your green card and/or SSN for sure.

For what it's worth, my state doesn't give out anything specifically called "divorce decree" and they looked at me weird at the courthouse when I requested mine. They give the entire packet of papers that we filled out (ourselves) for the divorce and the important section is the one called "facts and findings" (for us anyway). They put the certification raised seal on the page that has all the signatures (judge, ex and mine). That was all they were concerned with at the consulate was that page and the front page stating what it was about. I gave all pages anyway. I've always been confused reading on VJ about ppl getting certificates and decrees as our area apparently doesn't do that. Luckily uscis and the consulate were't confused with our papers at all. No questions were ever asked. And for name change, I submitted a copy of my first marriage license and my birth certificate too. That's all your fiance should need to I would think (just as everyone has already said).

Have you tried all of these people? I know there's nothing a congressman can do about security checks, but I swear when my congressman contacted USCIS somebody there realized the checks were finally done on our case and sent the noa2 that day (they sent the canned response to our congressman, but the same day sent us the noa2 email). If you explain to them that this is the 3rd (?) time your file has been put into security checks and neither of you have criminal records and ask if they can at least get an explanation for you.
This is seriously nuts to be waiting so long at this stage. I too check on you guys every time I open up VJ. My thoughts and prayers are with you both that it gets approved SOON.

Dang, I can't edit my post. Just wanted to say if you do the quiz you can just make up the info about yourself at the end (i used mickey mouse), skip the optional info and you'll still get your "spots". I hate entering real info about myself on things like that.
-
This is a fun thing to try quiz to find out where you'd like living
It's an online quiz (lots of questions) that gives you a list based on your answers of the top 10 places you'd be happy living. It gives all kinds of info on each city it suggests for you like weather, population stats, job outlook, highlights of the city etc... I haven't done it for a couple years, but I remember only getting US cities (the only drawback to the quiz). Maybe there's one for Canada too out there. That would be interesting to try out.

I'm wondering if a toxicology report will even be looking for pot use. Maybe it's like a blood test. If they're checking for blood sugar, they aren't checking to see if you're pregant. Just something to think about. Maybe they have to be specifically looking for something to have it come back with having something in it.
Exactly what I was thinking. When they do a blood test, they have to order everything they want to test for. The test won't show anything they don't order is probably a good way to explain it. If they sent him strictly for a blood alcohol level, that's all it's gonna give them. If they order a toxicology screen there will be several items tested an marijuanna being so common would be one of them most likely.
Here's an example of toxicology tests and how long the drugs stay in your system (blood test):
* Alcohol: 3 to 10 hours
* Amphetamines: 24 to 48 hours
* Barbiturates: up to 6 weeks
* Benzodiazepines: up to 6 weeks with high level use
* Cocaine: 2 to 4 days; up to 10 to 22 days with heavy use
* Codeine: 1 to 2 days
* Heroin: 1 to 2 days
* Hydromorphone: 1 to 2 days
* Methadone: 2 to 3 days
* Morphine: 1 to 2 days
* Phencyclidine (PCP): 1 to 8 days
* Propoxyphene: 6 to 48 hours
* Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): 6 to 11 weeks with heavy use

Question: If the doctor gave my fiance the vaccination supplement thingy ( vaccination documentation worksheet) from his k-1 medical exam, is that good enough to send with AoS?
So far, we got Jeremy's SSN, got married & have the marriage certificate(s) copies, put him on the bank accounts, found out we can get the driver's license for him after he's been on a utility bill for at least 30 days...have all their other requirements, filled out AoS paperwork except the affidavit of support. I'm updating my employment letter, got his 6 passport pics.
I can't think of anything else at the momemt that we need to get. We should be ready to send the AoS papers out this week.
Helppppp..AOS transferred to CSC?
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
Posted
Our case was transferred to CSC today too, woohoo!! I'm so excited!! It sounds like it's a good thing from everything I've read here.
