  1. Actually it's 1 shot for those of us who were immunized as children. If you're an adult who has never been immunized or has no proof of immunization (or lack of antibodies; verified by titer) then it's 2 doses.

The CDC recommends waiting at least 4 weeks before conception. Some doctors are more conservative and will recommend waiting even longer.

You're actually worse off if you don't have the vaccine, conceive a child and THEN get measles mumps or rubella (or chicken pox too, but unrelated to mmr) while pregnant. Adult cases of these diseases is much more severe than when children get them. Plus as already stated these diseases can cause serious birth defects if the mother contracts them during pregnancy (or is pregnant too soon after being immunized).

  2. I completely agree with everything already said. Do they not realize everything you're giving up to be with their son/brother? It's amazing how self-centered people can be. This is a really awkward way to start your life here with them. I really think your hubby needs to step up to the plate here and explain to them that HE thinks their plan is insensitive to both your and your mom's feelings. HE needs to tell them that you've waited a long time to be together, you're giving up basically everything in your life that is familiar to you...the least they could do is make your mom feel welcome. I really firmly believe this is HIS responsibility. It shouldn't be on you to have to say ANYTHING. Men are kinda weird with stuff like this, maybe you can gently suggest how he could approach this tactfully with his family? good luck!

  3. In the US if you are poor you can get Medicaid (t19), if you are old you have Medicare. I believe these programs should be fixed before trying to institute anything new. We all know that both programs have their problems, are complex and confusing and that coverage of medications, tests and procedures is regulated by the government which is #######. If a patient doesn't meet the government's criteria, they don't have coverage for it.

This is the example we have of government run healthcare and I believe it is why most Americans don't want yet another government run program.

How is Canada's healthcare coverage different from Medicare and Medicaid? Do they let the doctors order tests, meds, procedures without guidelines? Or are the guidelines very liberal? Or, are there people turned down/denied because their diagnosis doesn't meet the criteria for coverage?

My husband's experience with Canadian healthcare isn't fabulous and I understand that it's dependent on your location in the country. I like the idea of no copays, free meds, etc...but I'm not interested in long waits to get in to see a doctor when I need or want to (preventative care).

And this is also what American's are afraid will happen.

The other thing to consider is the fact that the American population is much much larger. I haven't heard a good explanation for where the money for this is going to come from and how much it's going to be. I already pay for my insurance and am not really interested in paying for other people's on top of it. Which is what it sounds like since it will be a "choice"...keep your insurance or take the government's. In Canada it's across the board...everybody has the same thing. That makes more sense to me.

  4. I mean the instance where you joust first, then kill the groups of 3, then the single lady who brings nightmare/shadow bosses out. We were doing it in a group of 5.

Did you have to do anything special to get Auctioneer working? Maybe i need to just remove it and reinstall it. idk

  5. Couple question for anyone:

Is there a trick to ToC in that phase where the shadow of a random boss shows up? Our healer is always getting silenced and I (tank) am sure I have aggro on the shadow. Can I do anything about it?

Does anyone have Auctioneer working? I'm not getting any info from it since the upgrade. I went on Curse to see if it had an update, made sure it's activated in the WoW UI...I don't know what else to do.

  6. Paddle pops in Wisconsin? I was born and raised in WI and don't know of paddle pops. We have Eskimo Pies that are vanilla ice cream on a stick. Is that the same kind of thing?

Wisconsin is weird...we have definite pockets where people call things by different names.

Does Canada have certain areas where people have a stronger noticeable accent? I don't notice my hubby's anymore, I think we've blended a bit. Also, on Ventrillo (on an online game we play), we have a few Canadians in the group and I would never have known...no accent whatsoever. Oh, and that girl on the Bachelorette recently...didn't notice an accent on her either. There was ONE time she said ONE thing and I was like "oh yea, there it is!", but other than that I didn't notice anything.

  7. We had big problems with this and my hubby is from Canada. It's no easier than any other country as far as visitation goes. In fact, my hubby was denied entry twice and was unable to visit me throughout our k-1 wait (I had to go there, otherwise we'd have not seen each other for an entire year).

Your best evidences are going to be the employer letter, utility bills, landline phone bills (cell phone bills weren't solid enough proof of strong ties in our experience), proof of home ownership (if she has a home) or not as good, but better than nothing...rental agreement, the bank statement(s) will be good.

In our experience, my hubby only had a couple of the above and it wasn't enough for them. It seemed that the employer letter, home ownership and bank statements would have been better proof of strong ties (which he didn't have). Other than lack of these things, he had no reason to be denied entry.

Denials are rare, so she'll probably be fine. I just like to add my 2 cents to warn people to be overprepared. I wish we had been.

    good luck!

  8. When you think about all the different types of visas available, the issue of not admitting people that are HIV positive is quite complex. It makes no sense for family based visas to me because you are in a committed relationship (fiance/spouse visas). It's a good idea to test because it's something the partner needs to know and the couple needs to make decisions about together. But the decision to continue with the visa process should be up to the couple/family involved, not the government. IF it's a parent, child etc... and they're not admitted due to HIV, it's ridiculous. What if the entire family is coming and poor grandma who had a blood transfusion during surgery isn't admitted due to her HIV status? Also, what about all the people adopting children from other countries that are HIV positive? How is that happening under this rule? I have read many articles about this.

  9. Happy Birthday Krikit!

(this is the spot where i tried to make a bday cake out of keyboard symbols, but failed miserably, so you'll have to use your imagination...it had candles & everything : )

  10. You'll want to be able to prove strong ties to your home country if asked at the US border.

The letter from employer (printed on company letterhead, signed by your boss or Human Resources department, and dated) should state at the least:

*insert name here* is an employee in good standing at *company name*. He/She will be visiting the US and is expected to return to work here on *date*.

    Or something like that.

Also, include proof of home ownership or rental lease, most recent utility bills, phone bills (land line) and/or anything else permanent you might have.

The more the better. Be prepared. Be honest. Be confident.

Good luck and enjoy your visit(s)!!

  11. Back to the address change issue...

I moved just before my fiance came to the US last year, so our k-1 paperwork was all old address and when we filed AoS we just filled out everything with the new address. Never did any address change forms. Everything was fine. AoS approved, green card came to the correct new address. We were told to do it this way since it's now a new form you're filling out, address change forms are unnecessary. They are used when you change address while you're waiting for something to be approved. For instance, if you moved AFTER you filed the AoS but haven't received green card or anything else yet. USCIS will correspond to whatever address you enter on your application forms.

  12. Gratz on the shoulders Trailmix! It's always so exciting to see someone get an item they've been wanting for a long time  .

We finally left our guild this past weekend. Our plan is to join my daughter's guild which is pretty big and seems to be running heroics, naxx and ulduuar all the time. Plus they have a good pvp group (her bf is on the Alli most wanted list lolol!) We're bringing a couple guildies along with us. I doubt our ex-leader will care much and if he does, tough. You can't hold a guild together or expect people to wait months for you to feel like playing again. I'm sad, but also looking to start anew and see what it's like in a "real" guild for once.

I've gotten my warlock to 68 now! I'm really starting to enjoy playing her. It's so weird to go between her and my pally. With the pally it feels strange now to not have a minion to send out & do my dirty work lol. I also find that I take less (or no) damage as a warlock when monsters come & are attacking me directly as I do on the pally. Weird huh? Cloth is toughter than plate? It's very strange. I died so much more as a pally than I do as a warlock. Maybe game experience? Maybe locks are OP? lol!

  13. Thanks for the advice. I sooo wish that I knew a big group of people (in real life) that played. I should stuff my christmas cards with trial membership papers this year lol. I might try the joining a big guild with an alt idea. We've been pugging and I did meet some nice people that way that repeatedly ask me to tank for them which is nice. It just isn't enough though.

Anyway, it's the weekend now so it's time to play!

  14. What's the best way to recruit good guild members? We're on Feathermoon, which I'm told is an older realm, therefore all the big guilds have been around for years and it's hard for newer guilds to build up. All we ever get is people's alts and they end up leaving eventaully. We're very small (50 some members i think and only about 6 or 7 regulars). Should I advertise in trade chat, on the WoW site forums, or what? Our other problem is the guild leader hasn't been on for over a month. It's lame to be in a guild with no leader. We really like the guy though. We think he may have had to move as he was talking about selling his house recently. I'd like to stay if he's gonna be back (the leader & his buddies are Canadian and that was kinda cool for my hubby :) But I'd kinda like to try joining one of the big guilds and see what it's like. Then decide about making our own guild possibly. gaaahhhhh idk what to do!

  15. I can't wait to hear about your crossing!! Congrats and good luck!! We crossed at Port Huron last year and got a total noob. He was very nice, but had no clue how to fix his computer (hubby had been denied at the border previously during the process and it kept alarming at him lolol).

Everyone tried to help him out, but they weren't much more knowledgeable about the k-1 visas. He tried to give me the packet when it was all done too and I had to argue with him that he's supposed to keep it and send it on. The guy next to him finally said, dude you keep that lol!

  16. We take our shoes off, but I would never get all bent out of shape over someone keeping their shoes on as long as they aren't dirty (which I don't know anybody who WOULD wear dirty shoes in someone's house. whatever is most comfortable for the person and their feet lol.

What DOES drive me bonkers is the big pile up of stinky gross looking shoes at the door. PUT THEM IN THE DANG CLOSET!! Omg. I can't stand that. I can't tell you how many times I've tripped over shoes at my back door since hubby moved here (my daughter leaves hers there now too, grr), or at my in-law's house, especially when there's alot of company over. It's ridiculous.

  17. Our guild leader hasn't been on for over 2 weeks. We only have about 6 or 7 members that play daily. It really sucks. I'm so discouraged with pugs, I haven't been doing anything with my 80 besides a couple dailies for a few weeks now. That's why I was working on the mage & warlock & priest recently.

Yes, the minion I was thinking of is the felguard. I spec'd affliction so far (we're at lvl 61 now). Hubby's dps is consistently higher than mine. He has points in affliction and demonology. I do use the same dot rotation one of you mentioned, and that is easy, but even though we use the same dots, he's always higher than me. He has a couple items (gear) that are better than mine, so that's probably got something to do with it. Plus he has faster reflexes than me so that's another thing. I think that's why I find them more difficult (all the differeing dot rotation opinions, spec'ing opinions etc...), plus it's my character with the most clogged up action buttons on the screen (almost all possible slots are full).

As for the hacks, hubby thinks my addons are putting me at risk. He was actually pretty upset about it last night. I LOVE questhelper and don't really want to play without it. I was so sick of flipping over to thottbot or wowhead to get help, when I tried questhelper and it points you in teh right direction, it was a godsend. I love auctioneer cuz it helps me choose which quest rewards to pick based on worth, when I don't need/want any of them. Haven't tried out deadly boss mods yet, but I might today. I'm sure I'll love it too.

  18. I'm glad to hear you got your stuff back Trailmix! I told hubby about all the account stealing stories & he got kinda freaked out. I wish I hadn't said anything lol.

I can't view those videos for some reason (can't watch any youtube on this stinking computer). I probably need some kind of plug in, but usually when that happens they stick the plug in right in your face, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I saw part of the first one at work, but i'm on vacation now  .

I am hooked on my mage! Omg I love it! Hubby and I made warlocks and mine has enchanting & inscription that I want to max out, but I think after we get them to 60 or 65 (they're at 56 now) i'm going to park her in Dalaran and just use her for the skills. I find the warlock too complicated. I don't even know how to get that bigger taller minion I see others with. Is that a higher lvl thing? A quest thing?

As for Frost Lotus...I seem to get a pretty good amount of them. What do you guys use them for? Mine are just sitting there (I know you probably don't want to hear that lol).

  19. I get so confused when I read these comparison threads. It's definitely a regional thing in the US. You could probably have this same type of thread comparing northern states & southern states. They say LOTS of things differently in the south.

Here most people say let's have a cookout (neither bbq, nor grilling) and we cook on a gas or charcoal grill and it can be with or without bbq sauce. BBQ means the sauce. Grilling means cooking on a grill (gas or charcoal, either or) around here.

I hear ppl say bathroom and restroom equally, not washroom (unless they're southern & then it's "warshroom" lol).

Soda and Pop, but majority say soda. I've heard that calling all softdrinks Coke is a southern thing.

Grits are definitely a southern thing, I even found them on a store shelf down there. You won't find those nasty things up here lol!

We say bubbler, not water fountain. I think that we're definitely in the minority with that one.

However, in support of my darling hubby, we are Canada-izing those around us as much as we can:

Poutine is growing in popularity here (among our family & friends of course).

We're teaching everybody that Canadian Bacon is NOT crappy thin dried out ham, it's a yummy thick slab of deliciousness.

He uses that "what a suck" thing. I didn't know it was a canadian thing, however I've never heard anyone around here use it. I bet he'll have ppl saying it at work though.

I can't get past the way he says "I'm done the grass" to say "I'm done cutting the grass". It just doesn't sound right. That must be a Canada thing.

There's more, but I can't think of them right now.

  20. Omg I'm just catching up on all this!! I got this email a few times over the past couple months. I am thinking I better get that autnenticator thing. Is it for sale on the Blizzard site? I have never heard of it. Anyway here's the email I rcvd:

Yea Like I'm going to send them all that info when they clearly state over and over that they'll NEVER ask for your password. It looks very authentic though because the "from" is Blizzard Entertainment, but my hubby explained how you can easily fake that if you're a hacker. It really makes me wonder if this is how all those sites that sell WoW gold get the gold in the first place. I always thought, how on earth do they make enough to sell it like that. Do they have a warehouse full of people working 20 hours a day just farming gold on WoW, sipping espressos, eyes all bloodshot, scoop em up with a forklift when they pass out and plunk a new one in their spot...

I can't remember if I said this before, but I'm loving QuestHelper!! I also downloaded DBM as suggested, thank you. I haven't tried it out yet cuz I got so hooked on the new Mage I am lvling up now. So much for the Priest, monsters look at her cross-eyed and she keels over! I'll still plug away at her lvls, but it gets frustrating and the mage makes me feel better then lol.

Edit: Trailmix I'm so sorry that happened to you and also so glad it wasn't any worse! What a bunch of cr@p. How can ppl do that to others??!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  21. So now that I got my Pally all set for retribution and tanking...i'm bored. Our guild is flatlined and pugs s^ck (not always, but i'm sick of dealing with it).

SO, I made a priest, I made a druid, heck I made one of everything. It's so much fun seeing the difference each class experiences even just in the beginning.

I'm in a druid vs. priest dilemma now. I really want to lvl up a healer, but I"m so torn on which one. I don't really care to dual spec (but who knows, at 80 I may change my mind), so neither class' dps abilities matters much to me. I want an awesome healer. What about a Shaman? Which one is the easiest and best healer?

And by easiest I mean once i'm 80 which one will be the easiest to heal well with?

Omg I didn't mean to quote myself!! What a dork!!

  22. Yea I get that about pvp. My main spec is protection and I love it. Our guild is very small right now, we have another tank already (guild leaders friend irl) so I decided to dual with retribution for the times he's on since he hasn't dual spec'd. I play more often than he does so when he's not around or I'm pugging I tank.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to figure out the Wow heroes website. I don't know what my score means. I guess I have to find another good ret pally on wow armory and plug them in to compare.

  23. How will I know if said overachiever spec'd for PVP or PVE (remember how noob I am?). I would post on the wow forums and ask for advice, but the responses I see some ppl get...i just don't like the arrogance and it's not helpful. The one person I know that would have a clue about ret pallies doesn't have an active account at the moment (friend of my son's). I will check out Vodka like you suggested and see if I can figure it out. Also gonna see if I can get to the other site you suggested from work here hehe.

Kinda what I was thinking on the beta testing mount thing. It's just so strange what some ppl will do to entertain themselves (send random fake email to someone whom you'll never see the response...completely pointless).
