Our case is showing "At NVC" now.  Hoping we get sent on the 29th!  We got our case number via public inquiry (on the third try).

Keep reaching out to get your case numbers as it seems that the emails aren't getting pushed out when they create the cases.  Doesn't speed the process obviously but certainly offers some peace of mind that it's been entered and we can track it.
  4. Thanks

Great question! Every consulate operates a bit differently, so it will vary depending on the beneficiary's country. You can usually find the requirements on your consulates' travel.state.gov site on the list here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/list-of-posts.html

Be careful to note specific instructions for K-1 visas. On your consulate’s page, also look for the link to your consulate’s main embassy.gov website for additional information (for example, https://uk.usembassy.gov/ for United Kingdom).

For most that I've seen, you'll want to start looking into:
Getting the required police certificates Gathering requirements for the the I-134 form. Getting vaccination records, and getting any missing vaccinations. A table of required doeses is here. Renewing the beneficiary's passport if needed -- it will need to have at least 6 months validity once you enter the US, and will probably be easier to renew while inside their home country. But again, verify what you need you need for the interview on the consulate's site as well.

I mostly stay in the K-1 forum, I can't recall seeing you there either. But as I said comment, I don't feel comfortable posting as much as I could have. Sometimes I put in the effort of researching an answer, finding a credible source, and drafting the comment, but then don't post to avoid the pile on or the oft-weaponised "confused" reaction.

If a trans person were to search for information on what they could expect from their journey, the first results listed are anti-trans threads where the Global Mod is saying "These people are insane and should be institutionalized." before they would find any useful immigration related information.   There's nothing respectful about the content that's being posted, and I just don't think it belongs here in the first place. Obviously, Free Speech, yada yada yada --  it just means I don't want to be a part of it.

Please, we can hear the dog whistles. The use of "these people" when the article is about one person. The farcical lead in: "Normal people -- an oppressed minority -- to whom we owe love and respect." A trans person going to a spa? "I expect the police to be called to that spa to investigate charges of sexual assault."

Well seeing how site owner?/Founder posted in this thread earlier asking for feedback it is good place as any to mention it.
Neither really. This is not my site to seek policing and not my place to educate. I can just share how I perceived thing through the lens of my personal experience.

I'd like to clarify the issue that I observed in that thread: When poster quotes or responds to someone while using automated translation tools it would change the text they are responding to senders native language. Having upper forums English only makes perfect sense to me for all the reasons you listed. Again requiring English is not an issue. But maybe something can be done on a technical level so that quoted text doesn't get translated when response is posted from a poster using automated tool in attempt to comply with the site rule.

Saying "if you don't like it, leave" supports my argument - that's what many of us are doing.

Again, it's up to the site owner to decide if that's what he wants.

You're asking us to report posts to the people posting them. The most likely outcome of that is the classic "we've investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing" meme. The whole argument that we should report behavior we find problematic to the mods breaks down when the mods themselves are the problematic users.

I think it is TOTALLY inappropriate to bring politics into an immigration forum, and especially to expect us to read comments with a "brotherly arm around our shoulders" while they are constantly, actively spewing hate-filled rhetoric towards us and our communities.

@steve I never felt comfortable here, but I put a lot of time and effort into trying to help people here anyway. I would have done more if I felt like it was a truly open forum. I had spreadsheets and template letters and extensive notes on the Appropriations Act that I never expected I would dive so deeply into. And so much data, shared by other more technical users, until suddenly it was verboden. And once that was gone, I had no reason to stick around and tip toe through the mods to help new users, lest I get caught up in one of the classic VJ Power User Pile Ons™.  Then, finding "Current Events and Hot Social Topics" hurt me and made me angry that I contributed to a site with an underbelly of hate speech.

I am glad I have found a kind and helpful immigration community elsewhere, and I hope other people, particularly those near the beginning of their journey, are able to do the same.

@AndiB +1 on this.  This is a core principal.  Respect each other :)!  We all have our own perspectives, biases and good+bad days... however we have to try our best to respect and support each other.  It's what a community and family does -- and what VJ should be all about!

Thinking on the mod side.  If I go back to the early days of VJ, my moderation strategy was always to gently guide things back on course as a first reaction rather than heavy handed "rubber stamps".  I also tried to lead by example and set the 'right' tone.  I think it was helpful and wonder if this is an area we can work on collectively?

Hi, I am going to compile a very very large list of links and or screenshots of hundreds of posts by multiple members that this does not and cannot apply to. They are plain just rude and condenscending in every aspect. Some even love to bold certain sections of their replies to make it clear they are being stern and bullying. That's the whole reason why I steered away from here after joining a few months back. I now see the owner has made himself present so maybe it would be nice to get input straight from him on how to address this and make the forum community friendly.

If veteran members are stressed from answering a great many threads across the entire forum, they should simply take a break. There are absolutely no excuses as to why anyone should think they can reply to anyone else with a tone that undermines them and sometimes plain old ridicules them for everyone to jump in on and piggy back off of that behavior. I look forward to improvement and enjoying many topics across the board with fellow members moving forward and hope this greatly changes in the near future.
