  1. Hi everyone!!!!!! Just an update. Abdou got here to Calif (SF) 12/13. We are working together in my business and it is perfect! We are so happy  . I am showing him all the finer things naturally like...Starbucks, Target, costco, safeway, wholefoods...and me!!! We speak to his family & freinds daily on webcam and it is so awesome!!!! We made couscous last night and of course mint tea everyday! Thank god his mom sent alot of millui and cakes (YUMMMMM!!!) We could not be happier! Will keep in touch...as we can ;) Tjis is really a great xmas and new years! Wishing you all to be soon with your loved one....and those that are together have a perfect holiday! Abdou & Carol

  2. wow I missed everything! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you can be like me LOL..so busy preparing your home for him (EXCITED) that you have no time (aftre working) to log onto the internet...or visa journeys :( I am sooo happy for you :) :) Martini

  3. Sweetie just pick one and send it ASAP because even tho they might get it to morocco in 2 days, once there morocco mail processing sometimes holds it up another couple days!!!! It happened to us in the same situation and he got the papers just before going back to casa for the second interview. I used fedex and they all cost about the same $$$$$$ so just SENNNND IT! Hugs, Martini

Fed Ex wont ship to my fiance's city (dunno why, it's a major city) And USPS, express mail is 8 business days. Now I'm trying to find a DHL facility but with their service only being international now, all the centers have closed, so I'd have to go to the airport tonight to take it there. I'm not even sending anything legal. It's all copies of stuff and I'm wondering if I should just scan them all and email them or even fax them.

It's not even stuff they asked him for. It's me being a worry wort and just overloading them with more documentation and evidence.

  4. wow thats intense! I was barely asked any questions ever. I think the Adul asked me if I recieved my dowery and the US embassy in Rabat I had to go with my passport to enter (thank god they let my husband go in with me) and I think he pretty much did everything in there too I was just there and really nervous. He did pay some people $$$ to assist us but it still took 4 weeks to complete the process when we went. It was Oct 07 so maybe it was a busier time? Any way My poor husband was the one that ran around doing everything for us. I did go sometimes but my part seemed small compared to his. I was just enjoying being in morocco and did not care if I went back home LOL....I felt very at home there and like being near his family. But the process to get married does seem daunting! I don't remember being asked about my religion either.....hmmmmmm....Maybe I was high on love (or moroccan mint tea) and did not notice

The questions I got at the police interview was alot about my education then he got into my religion asked for my certificate of conversion here and then asked (i was in hijab) if I was a "practicing" muslimah? then he asked me which "books" i've read (he was looking for the Qu'ran as an answer) then he asked me if I prayed and in what language. I told him i learned it in English first as I thought it was important to know the words I was saying then learned in Arabic. he seemed satisfied with that answer.

yeah there are extra "fees" you know to help someone get coffee to get at the head of the line... here and there are always others willing to "help" for the right "fee"

be prepared to pay some (fees) to take the courier from place to place and to go back each day to ck if ready, also during what i think u called the interview be prepared to answer THE question of have you slept together  you maynot know but i could tell when the man stop talking to me and went to the man to ask this question under quiet breath so no one hears, they ask how long youhave known, how long since u have decided to marry etc we knew someone at almost all places and it was 2 1/2 weeks but during this time the King came to town so it was slow time

Ha ha, I had forgotten about that. That also reminded me when after our marriage the Adoul patted my husband on the back and whispered in his ear "You can have sex with her now".

    you're kidding me??? that's a riot.

  5. what about consignment stores?

    Hello MENA peeps :star:

I know this probably doesn't really fit in this section, but since I know many of you I feel better posting it here than in another section where I don't really know the posters.

The current plan for me is to move to Cairo sometime in the next few months.

I am not shipping any furniture there and very little besides clothes.

So, that means I am selling most of what I have. I really can't afford to keep things in storage here while I'm living in Egypt, though I might just store a couple of boxes at my folks house.

Anyways, I have lists of things that I will sell, but... I've never been in this situation before, where I need to sell a bunch of stuff.

I can't have a garage type sale, it's not allowed in my townhome complex.

I thought perhaps I could sell stuff on ebay or craigslist, but I have not done either before so I'm not sure exactly how easy that is. And also, I don't really want people coming to my place to check things out since I live alone for the most part. Also not sure how to price things.

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm so eager to go I wish I could just sell everything and take off now. :D

  7. S and S ........ :dance::dance:

I had a really cool, bittersweet night. I went to Ohare with my friend Hani to pick up his wife. She flew in from Jordan. Being there for their reunion was nice and the dinner we went to was nice, but leaving alone and missing Ibrahim sucked real bad. Here is Hani waiting at the terminal. His wife arrived safely and I wish them both a life of happiness.

Oh what a sweet picture! Photoshop my head ob his body and you will have me waiting for Abdou in Dec...oh wait make him jump up and down too...and maybe throw on a pair of jimmy chew boots :luv:

  8. That is soo frustrating! I am sorry wish I could help but Abdou and I mostly text each other by cell phone and our whole relationship communication is THANK YOU MSN Live!!!!" we talk for at least 1 hour each night on there. I also use a calling card from my business and cell but really don't call him unless I have to tell him I will be late to my computer. I know it is so frustrating. But after like 6-8 mos you get used to it all :P

Ok, I am sure most of you will agree with me when I saw that I am completely frustrated in trying to find a cheaper way to contact my husband.

Cell phone international rates completely suck. I learned that the hard way. Phone cards take up too much money. I have tried resorting to Skype and Yahoo Call Out, but I still feel like money is getting deducted from my account even if the calls do not connect.

I would love to talk to my husband as much as I like. He does not have a PC at home; therefore, I call his cell phone.

Does anyone have any suggestions because I am at a complete lost and holt.

  9. No sweetie I don't think it sounds to me that you will have any problems. Just take alot of cool pictures of all you guys at your wedding and thats plenty. Good luck!

We are planning on getting married in a very small ceremony at a mosque (just us, my parents, my sister and her husband) and taking a honeymoon trip afterwards. Because of financial and other constraints--both of us moving back to the US and having a lot on our plates, the fact that neither of us are psyched about wedding planning, and our friends and family are spread all over the country--I would rather not have a wedding party right now. Do you think this will be a problem with immigration at some point? We have a lot proof of our relationship, but I'm wondering if this could be an issue later on down the road.
  10. I am nearly positive Abdou will fly on Royal Ari Morocco the same as I usually do because it is a straight flight to NY. And I believe the fare is about $750...

I am very happy for you because I remember your posts when the second interview went wrong I felt so bad for you. Just remember when he gets here and things get "REAL" , and some times you have rough days , just remember this struggle to be together. It always helps me to remember how hard it was to be together and it helps alot, helps to put the hard times in order and get through them. Congrats!!
  11. Yes he will be leaving for the moon next monday  LOL I am kidding...he will come a week after EID so he can spend it with his family.

:dance: Carol have you found him a flight yet?

Thank you everyone so much for your comments here, they are really touching to Abdou and I. We are so happy!!!!! My face is starting to hurt from smiling! When Abdou picked his visa up at Casa he was in the line outside and his phone rang and it was the consular chief asking if he was in meknes or casa. he told them he was in the line outside the consulate and they said good cuz your visa is ready. Needless to say, his experience with the consular chief (after the damsel of doom he got the first 2 times) has been so joyful! If this isn't a true holiday blessing. God is truely sooo awesomely great :D:D:D

  13. wow the consulates are so creative these days. It sounds like they want to be sure every base is covered and that everyone knows they have rites. In case the "worse" thing happens. It does seem a bit brutal tho. And sometimes they even seem a bit prejudiced which does not seem like it should be allowed. Like they plant "ideas"..but maybe they just want to scare people so they weed trough those who are not serious about immigration?

  14. My wife had her interview today. Final determination to happen tomorrow. The Embassy interviewer told my wife that her mind is still not made up as of today. She said to expect a phone call tomorrow.

As for the interview itself, the questions were pretty standard. Nothing out of the ordinary. However, she did tell my wife that these American men will marry a foreign woman, then once she is in the US, they will abuse her. She went as far as to have a secretary print out some sort of violence against women act to give to my wife. The interviewer also told my wife that she wanted to be sure that if my wife left me, that she would be able to stay in the USA.

All in all very odd in that regard. It sounds like my spouse will get her visa approved tomorrow, but the interviewer seemed to want to keep doubt in her mind by saying that the outcome was not clear yet. Comments???
