gogeter13 reacted to SalishSea in Cousin Marriage on CR-1... Moving to Texas
Not the same at all.  Same sex marriages are legal in all 50 states due to the supreme court ruling.  There has not been anything like that for cousin marriages.

A better argument would be: if cousin marriages are allowed, why not marriages between other close relatives?  Siblings?  Parent/child?

And if you came here to argue about the laws, then you're barking up the wrong tree.  The laws are what they are.  If a person's culture dictates that they can or should marry a first cousin, and their eligibility to immigrate is based on that marriage, then they need to find a place to live where it is legal.  Full stop.

Something doesn't add up here.  You said you never lived together.  Where did the abuse take place?  That is extremely important.

I've been stuck on biometrics since Jan. 2021, but yesterday I checked my USCIS profile and it changed to "Case is Ready to be Scheduled for an Interview." I don't know how long that will take but we're going to renew the I-765 just to be safe.

We had our interview yesterday in Detroit. They said we should have an update in a few weeks. Status check this morning (following email notice) showed that they approved the Green Card yesterday and it's now being produced!!! Two-year card for us as we are married just under 2 years. Woo woo!!! Soooo happy!!! Looking to hear good news from the rest of you...hang tight!!!

This is just a thought from a random stranger for you but...

After reading what everybody says, at this point, instead of rushing to find whatever lawyer you can get your hands on now and gather money for it, wouldn't it be better for you to wait for her to be back in Canada, and in the meantime you research for a top notch lawyer, then you go to Canada and get married there, you come back to US and file for CR-1, and get the lawyer for the visa process?    When I was in the US years ago as a student, the roommate of my friend got deported for overstaying for a few years.  She found a lawyer for him but once he was caught in the system, it wasn't much the lawyer could do because the reality was that he was overstaying illegally no matter what the reason was.  I don't know anything legal on this kind of matter and I'm not saying the same thing will happen to you but that's what happened to somebody I knew.

You keep saying it's ''not fair'' that two people who are in love get separated or you can't be separated because you two love each other too much etc but immigration doesn't give a damn about your personal situation.  Every genuine couple who goes through marriage/fiance visa process feels the same way as you do yet we choose to take the necessary step to be together and endure the pain during the separation because that's usually the only way to make the situation ''fair.''

Since you are not financially in the position to afford a lawyer now, maybe you should spend more time finding the best option to get the expense for a superb lawyer as a preparation for the visa process.  To me, that seems to be more considerate and practical way of using your money and attorney for it.

I feel the same way. My husband PD 5/4/2020 and our last update was that same one on august 4, 2020. I try not to let it stress me out and make me worry but definitely hard when others who filed months after are getting movement.

So our expedite for EAD (our PD is 5/27/2020) through our Senator's office was denied on 3/15/2021. Then got a message on 3/17/2021 that the EAD card has been mailed! Makes me wonder if anyone really knows what's going on! We are very happy nonetheless to be moving in the right direction!

gogeter13 reacted to Crazy Cat in USCIS agent Verbally Denied my AOS at Interview
The OP is in a very precarious situation now.  Immigration now has a great deal of information about him (living and working locations).  Now, he can't legally work, can't challenge the USCIS denial, and can't challenge any subsequent removal actions.    Immigration requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and money.  A failure in any of those areas can spell heartache.

Same. I finally got my biometrics this year but after that I hadn’t heard anything. I also reached out to the ombudsman a week ago and still waiting for a response. I may send an expedite request as well.
