Expiration: You must use your visa to enter the US before 30 June 2021. (That date is set for 6 months from your medical exam).

Social Security number: That is reserved for after you become a permanent resident of the US (LPR, greencard holder). Right now you only are a visa holder.

When you enter the US, immigration officials will review your documentation/visa. They will stamp and note your passport with what is called an I-551 stamp. That means you are a permanent resident of the US. You can use your passport just like a greencard to show you are an LPR to anybody that needs proof...bank, DMV, new employers,

You will get the plastic wallet greencard in the mail (and the Social Security card separately if you requested one on your visa application) after a few weeks.  Sometimes it takes longer.

Before you can be issued the plastic greencard, you have to pay the USCIS a fee to produce it. Some people will refer to it as paying the ELIS fee. That fee can be paid online anytime from when you have your visa in hand to after you enter the US.  Here is the link for the fee that explains everything really well.

    Hello,

We were approved yesterday too. It won't come as a surprise that, like others, it was a very smooth and painless process at the Embassy. Interestingly, I wasn't asked for half of the documents that you're told to bring - obviously important to have everything just in case but I needn't have bothered with my beautifully organised and labelled ring binder 😂

Good luck to everyone with their interviews coming up. And huge thank you to everyone contributing their experiences and advice on this thread - it has been beyond helpful.

    APPROVED!!!

Full review to follow, but TL;DR it was so quick and easy! Nothing to worry about. Appointment scheduled for 9:30am and out by 9:50.

Thank you everyone for all of your help and encouragement through this journey!
  11. Thanks

No matter if people say how easy it is 100 times, the ones going to interview are always panicked before hand. If you will copy what you wrote and put it in the review place, it will help others. Nobody wades through this entire thread or it’s predecessor to read what people said. They just ask again, over and over.
Copy your review. Go to your timeline and find “Submit Review” with the yellow exclamation point. Paste your review. .  People always want to know what documents you had to present, so you might want to name them instead of saying civil documents.

ALSO Update your timeline with Approved on “Interview Result” and again with the date you get the visa back and the date you enter the US.

    Congratulations on today.

    Approved. 😄

I feel so silly for being worried about the interview but it was an absolute breeze. I got there early, but the wait wasn't too bad at all.

Security took a couple of mins to get through because I had a bottle of water in my bags so they asked me to drink a sip and then sent me to the building where they interview you.

At the interview building, they give you a number and send you to the appropriate floor. From here you just wait for your number to be called on the screen. I went up when my number showed up on the screen, they asked for civil documents and the appointment letter, took biometrics, contact number and asked when my best travel date would be. They also confirmed a few dates like where I was born and if I'd been married before, etc and then asked me to take a seat.

    Around 15mins later my number showed up on the screen again and I went to a different window, this is where the oath happened, biometrics were taken again, and questions were asked;
    1. Where we met
    2. Which year did we meet
    3. Which year did we start dating
    4. Why am I moving to the US instead of husband moving here

At the end the lady said everything checks out and said I'll get my passport back 1-2 weeks.

I'm so tired from the drive so I do apologise for bad grammar in this post.

Goodluck to everyone else on your interviews. I honestly can't thank people on this forum enough for the support.

    APPROVED!!!!

Husband just got out of his interview. They asked him how we met (Tinder, lol), how long after we met did we start dating, what I do for a living, what he does for a living, and that’s it.

We did NOT have a straightforward financial situation due to my wonky tax return status (2019 taxes STILL not processed) and the fact that I’m a freelancer with no official employer (i.e. no W2). Felt pretty nervous about the interview because people here kept saying we’d be asked to get another sponsor, but nope. Wasn’t an issue.

No questions about our financial situation and a very laid-back atmosphere. Though my husband did say that the woman interviewing him didn’t break intense eye contact while she had him swear an oath with his hand up that he would be truthful lol.

He also mentioned that he overheard the entire interviews of other people there, so not a super private set-up. Presumably they take you into another room if things get intense.

So relieved. Still hasn’t set in.

I've just had the email - heart sunk. March 2nd now moved to April 7th. No reasons given. Must make mental note, don't get excited about April 7th until April 7th.

Yup, just got the same thing. Interview moved from 2nd March to 7th April. But that's a Wednesday, so who knows given the past pattern if that is going to stick? Sick to my stomach tbh.

Ugh😰DQ'd Oct 8th, completed medical Feb 18th and interview was all set for next Monday 1st March, but just got the dreaded appointment being moved email and now rescheduled to April 8th. No reason provided, just said appointment was 'moved'. This sucks...

Hi, on arrival a week ago, I was advised at POE to expect my SS details within 3 weeks. If I do not receive it, to visit the nearest SS office to check/apply. So fingers cross, it'll be here soon. Good luck

Sean arrived at the Embassy about 30 minutes before his appointment and someone inside took his name and checked him off of a list but told him he needed to wait outside until it was 10:45 (appt was at 11).

He said that they took his fingerprints and then took a few of his original documents such as our marriage certificate, his birth certificate, passport, etc. into another room to examine and brought all back but the passport. He was then called up to a window to swear an oath and then an officer asked him a few questions such as "When did you meet?, How did you meet? Why are you moving to America? Have you ever visited America? Have you met her family?" and then told him our application was approved. He was then given a paper that said the application/passport return could take 7-10 business days. He is going to pick it up from the drop-off location in London so hopefully it is ready soon before his Feb 28th flight or we will have to push it back a week.

Overall very smooth, in and out in about 40 minutes.

Dropping in to say that I had my interview this morning and I got it! Super easy, the interview itself was about 3-5 minutes and she just said "it'll be with you in 1-2 weeks!" I was asked how did you meet? Why are you moving there instead of him coming here and if I had read the immigrant rights leaflet. (which i had been given previously)

Thank you so much to everyone here, you've been such a good help and for those who are nervous and waiting, the interview was honestly the easiest bit! It'll come soon!

Once you land at the port of entry with you IR1/CR1 immigrant visa, they will stamp your passport with an I-551 stamp which is a temporary green card until the physical comes in the mail.
that stamp in your passport acts the same as a green card and you have the right to work.

For your DS 260 confirmation form, it needs to have two barcodes at the bottom of the page, one will be your LND number. This is the page you need to bring a print out of.
