TBoneTX got a reaction from JTB11 in One, Two... Many Rants
Only the finest toilet-water for you, huh man.
---
Interim Friday back-report, see and sigh and ouch man:
Took heap-strong pill at bedtime at 2:Many a.m., ingest man.
Slept exactly 2 hours & Many minutes, sigh and no zzz man.
Squirmed for over an hour, ouch man.
If we knew Morse Code, back-throbs would probably be delivering Shakespeare, dot dash dot man.
Mini-B. awakened far too early, saying "See the window? It's a beautiful day!", wee man.
Mrs. T-B. groggily got him his flashlight (new favorite toy, wee man), she man.
Mini-B. shone light all over, including into our faces, no zzz man.
Mini-B. then requested his tablet computer, wee man.
Mrs. T-B. groggily retrieved same, she man.
Mini-B. proceeds to play Mickey Moose & Ronald Duck cartoons at full blast, deafening man.
We squirm ineffectually and finally lurch into bathroom to take heap-strong pill again, ouch man.
Heap-strong pill has negligible effect, as yesterday, sigh and ouch man.
As usual, Mrs. T-B. has not prepared our lunch, no man.
We excuse this and say that we will dine at McDonald's, sigh and cholesterol man.
Mrs. T-B. sleepily apologizes and promises us our nap when we get home, she and zzz man.
This promise is usually as good as the paper on which it's written, invisible ink man.
We hit the GS & ES and get to work early, sigh man.
We called primary doc, who is referring us to Spine Center or Orthopedics, kick upstairs man.
Orthopedics wants us to see Spine Center, vertebrate man.
No appointments are available until our already-scheduled Wednesday, July Many'th, ouch man.
We have just taken Heap-Strong Pill #2 of the day, ineffectual man.
Maybe we will not fall asleep at our desk more than once, zzz or no zzz man.
Sigh and ouch, man.

Completely forgot the GS report from yesterday, see man.
On way to work, stopped at a ES (estate sale), see man.
It was run by our favorite guy, who prices things reasonably, whee man.
For as long as our back could stand it (not long, no man), we looked for great stuff, see man.
We found a tub of office supplies (chiefly sticky-pads), Many warshcloths, a hand-towel, & a serving spoon.
All this came to only $Many, whee man.
This morn, we stopped at a GS, see man.
We bought a tiny dinosaur & a tiny gorilla for Mini-B., wee man. Total = $1, $i man.
We then passed by a sign-advertised ES and screeched a U-turn, inner-ear disruption man.
They had oodles of excellent, high-class furniture & art at cheap prices, whee man.
Unfortunately, Mrs. T-B. bought us cheap and we were too much that to buy anything, sigh man.
Presuming mobility tomorrow, we have approximately Many GSs on the itinerary, si man.

TBoneTX reacted to Cori and Rob in Conflicting info on working while waiting for EAD
Sir, this is a website that provides immigration advice. The idea here is to give posters advice on the best and easiest way to legally get from point A to point B. While it is true that there other ways you could do things, it is not helpful to propose/bring up ideas that would not even make sense. It's sorta like taking a detour to C on that trip from point A to point B. The best way to get your EAD is through applying for AOS. Most people who have gone through the K-1 process on VJ did it this way, and it's silly to even bring up other suggestions, as it confuses posters who are legitimately asking for advice. As someone who has gone through an immigration process yourself, I'm sure you can appreciate how difficult and confusing the process was, and how conflicting advice from others only might have confused you.
OP, the EAD process with the AOS application goes pretty quickly- about 90 days. My husband's EAD only took 60 some days, so there is hope that it could even be faster than 90 days. Don't listen to any place of employment that suggests you can work without EAD- you cannot. Good luck!

I don't send my money across oceans to my poor family, hence I get to spend it on things I like.
FTR, I did get a high school diploma after starting college when I had shown proof I got a good grade in Calculus.

If the Alaska Natives had approached the problem by launching thousands of rockets into Anchorage and bombing buses in Juno they would not be sitting around getting "unbelievably wealthy" allowing companies to extract the natural resources from the land. They would be gone.

TBoneTX reacted to KayDeeCee in Green Card and AOS
The process is different for someone entering on a K-1, and you will never have any permanent stamp placed on the K-1 visa. You get it stamped upon entry, and then the K-1 visa is null and void. The EAD or green card are what is needed for the K-1 entrant, along with the SSN, to begin working.
OP > Entering with a spousal visa allows you to get an SSN and work right away, since you have permanent residence status already. That status began when you entered and they stamped the visa, not when you receive the green card.
From the SSA site about what documentation a non-citizen needs > http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm
What original documents do I need?
Immigration status
To prove your U.S. immigration status, you must show us your current U.S. immigration document, such as Form I-551 (Lawful Permanent Resident Card, Machine Readable Immigrant Visa) with your unexpired foreign passport

TBoneTX reacted to KayDeeCee in Re-enter US using advance parole
Your opinion stated you would not use it if out of status for any amount of time. What other reason, other than the possibility of triggering a ban for overstay when leaving, would there be for not wanting to use AP if you had been out of status? Not an opinion or what you assume or believe may happen. An actual reason.
I posted information about why it is safe for an adjustment applicant to use the AP that was granted to them, even if they had overstay. No one ever stated re-entry was an absolute guarantee, and I pointed out there is no guaranteed entry with a green card either.
Also, if you look back, at first I did address your personal feelings on the matter by stating that if you personally did not want to use it, then don't. I would find it just as odd for someone to post that they would personally not use a K-1 visa to enter the US, even when they are in no position to ever need to use such a visa, because there is no guarantee of entry with a K-1 visa. Trying to scare other people away from using it based on your opinion is not helpful. People that have shared their experiences, good or bad, after actually using AP are helpful. Those type of posts can already be found here on VJ.
You have posted misinformation around VJ. You like to argue against the actual instructions and immigration laws in favor of how you think/believe/assume it should work. Misinformation, even if deemed 'simply an opinion', is still misinformation. It confuses the issue and hurts people looking for actual, straightforward answers to their questions. Bickering back and forth with your opinions/beliefs against the facts causes those correct, needed answers to get lost in the bogged down thread due to people trying to get the correct information out there. If you post misinformation, someone is bound to come along and correct it. It is not bashing you.

1. actually, there is a term for posting opinions that may raise alarm unnecessarily - it is "fear mongering" and i did not use it earlier because it sounded a little harsh, and i am sure that that was not your intention. just a friendly suggestion, since your goal is to help others, instead of demanding your right to express your opinion, why not read up a bit more, gain some awareness of how your opinion could affect the OP, and be more open to corrections from others who have been posting and studying immigration issues for much longer?
2. just to add, a lawyer would not be able to guarantee the OP's re-entry either. it is kind of a non-answer, since most people come here to take advantage of the DIY knowledge and advice available - if indeed a lawyer is necessary, people here would be the first to say so. in this situation, i don't really think consulting a lawyer is necessary, nor would it give the OP any new information that has not been mentioned here by harpa and kaydeecee already. (btw, i do consider harpa and kay experts given the amount of studying and research they both have done into immigration issues).
3. TboneTX made excellent points

yeah, but then i have to wonder, why bring up something that you, yourself, claim is counterproductive? it just brings unnecessary confusion into the thread. OP is looking for answers, not a debate on immigration regulations that exist only in theory.

TBoneTX reacted to Elizabeth+Fred in Conflicting info on working while waiting for EAD
Excuse me?
The K-1 is valid ONLY to enter the country so one can get married. After that, one files for AOS, and the authorized stay is extended AS LONG AS AOS IS PENDING. So, has nothing to do with K-1 expiration, or even I-94 expiration.
EAD, when filed together with AOS (and/or AP) usually results in work authorization in between 60 to 90 days, and that authization remains valid as long as AOS is pending- then it either is replaced with the new PR status, or terminated if denied.
So, in my opinion, filing for EAD (and/or AP, depending on the chance of needing to travel to the home country) is ALWAYS a good thing to do when filing for AOS. Since it's free, there IS no 'cost of the EAD'. I've also not seen any indication that requesting EAD would be counterproductive...
Normally, the first thing one does is requesting an SSN, as that takes some time. Then, depending on where you are, drivers license, bank account (usually needs SSN), maybe "shop around" for work opportunities, so that by the time the EAD or GC arrives, you're pretty much ready to go !
