Off the top of my head:

    Aug 17: Received application

    Nov 24: RFIE

    Jan 27: RFIE sent (medical + I-944)

    Feb 18: Biometrics

    Mar 15: Decisions

    It was employment-based.

Informed delivery says that I have three pieces of mail from USCIS today (and no packages). I thought the cards came in packages, so I'm a bit confused, but hopefully it's still what I'm hoping for!

What a bummer, I got two approval notices for I-485 and I-485J (supplementary form for employment-based I-485) and a notice saying that they'll re-use my fingerprints for I-765... It looks like the actual green card doesn't get to you so quickly! Oh well...

Can you share your time line? Was this employment or marriage based?

  3. So I already have a job in the US on a H1B visa, and it is set to expire in August of this year (about 5 months left).

I did my biometrics last month, sent the RFEs for i-485, and I'm basically doing the waiting game at this point. Unfortunately, my I-765 was rejected twice because I put in the wrong category twice, and it twas only accepted in January of this year (I sent it in in November, and USCIS sat on it for ages...) So I think while both applications have a chance of being approved by August, I don't feel confident that either of them will definitely get approved.

I'm talking to my employer, and they told me that because I'm Canadian and the H1B quota isn't full, they won't file for an H1B extension (I don't really understand this tbh), and that there might not be another option. I feel like the HR isn't fully informed on i-485, because a google search shows that I can try to expedite my case. The only thing is, I don't think my case is urgent yet since I have 5 months. So I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with the expedite request, when I should file it, or if it's even worth it. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!

  4. I found an app called Lawfully (I swear it's not advertising lol) and it predicts that I'll have my case approved between Feb 1 - May 2 with 46% probability. The probability of getting it approved before July 31 is 76%, so I guess that looks pretty good...? My visa expires on August 15 though, so I guess I may have to take a leave of absence from work at some point if it doesn't happen soon... So worried!

(Together with my I-765 which was sent in late, the chances of me not having a working visa by the time my H1B expires is just below 10%... I'm going crazy doing all the math haha)

At worst it'll just mean a gap in employment authorization. After the I-94 expires you are still in period of stay authorized by the Secretary of Homeland Security because of the pending I-485.

Hah your comment made me more nervous since I'm pretty much in the US for my job... I ended up contacting the HR in my job, and they'll look into other solutions just in case.

  6. I have my biometrics in a couple of days! It looks like they take fingerprints and a photo? What is the photo used for? I'm asking because I'm trying to decide if this is a makeup situation or not (super annoying with a mask on). I'm willing to deal with the makeup stuff if it's going to be on my green card for the next 10 years, but if it's for security purposes and I won't ever see it again, then I might go without makeup...

No, we did that too. And the medical form. There were so many forms, I may have forgotten a couple. Our lawyer prepared it all.

Hey fellow Canadian! Just wanted you to know that my fees were accepted Sep 3, and I got the biometrics appointment yesterday. It looks like you're still in the COVID-reasonable time range, so hang in there! I hope you get your appointment soon :)

Is it a Code 3? You could try mentioning that you also have a pending I-765:

Wow! Yes, my appt letter says that it's a Code 3. So it looks like I might not need another one, since Code 3 is way more strict than Code 2 required for I-765. Fingers crossed, because it's really far to the ASC office from where I live, I hope I don't have to make 2 trips! Thanks for the link!

Well whatever it is I hope it's good news!

It was a letdown (for the 3rd letter). As expected, I got my biometrics for Feb 18, and a receipt for I-765. Then the 3rd letter just said that my online USCIS account was created (I already have one, so I don't know what they're doing).

Do you know if I'll get another biometrics appointment for I-765 which was filed months later than I-485? My biometrics appointment is specifically for I-485, and I don't know if others' letters say differently.

  10. omg guys I'm freaking out. On my informed delivery, it says that I have 3 pieces of mail from USCIS, all in the regular letter sized envelopes. Do you think that something went wrong with my application? I think the delivery doesn't come until 3-4pm, and the anxiety is killing me!

I sent in RFIE yesterday actually, and I initially submitted I-485, I-765, and I-131 in August, but I-765 was rejected twice and just accepted about 2 weeks ago. I don't know what it could be that they need to contact me 3 times, even if one of them is the good news of the biometrics appointment. My online status hasn't changed at all.

EDIT: I guess the other one is probably the mailed receipt notice for I-765. I still don't know what the 3rd one could be!

Nice to meet another one Eb2 category ;) Could I ask which city is your ASC? Mine is at Seattle and I don't really hope that I will get biometrics appointment soon enough :(

Funny part: My application has been received also on Aug. 17th and it is an Eb2 case. Also, I have received receipts for fee waiver for I-485J ;)

Haha I haven't been assigned ASC yet! My I-485J fee waiver is dated September 4, but I didn't get it until today... My status online says to contact them if I don't receive the receipt by September 16, but obviously I didn't know that I needed to contact them without my receipt number... haha.

  12. I'm applying from an H1B visa, and my receipt notice date is September 4 (Received August 17 through the Phoenix lockbox). I called them because I got a second I-485J receipt (apparently normal for applicants in EB2 category), and casually asked about the biometrics. The agent said that they're delayed, but that I might get mine in a few weeks (not months), so that's a slightly positive news for those who are waiting. I'm sure it's somewhat different for family-based visa applicants, but at least cases are being processed and moving, albeit slowly. Hang in there!
