The pain I've been feeling these past few days has been too much for me to take. I'm really happy that this travel worked out well for everyone else, but I can't bear to read them any longer.

Here's what KLM responded to me for those interested:

I did have all the valid travel documents. I still don't understand why I was denied. I'm struggling to cope with it all.

I'm sure everyone else will be fine, just follow my guide .

Good luck. This will probably be my final message here.

    Hello!

The whole point of the Schengen Area is the freedom of movement between Shengen countries and this is why as EU citizens, we do not get our passports stamped when entering another Schengen country. Despite being a EU country, Croatia is not (yet) part of the Schengen Area so I assume you will have a stamp in your passport once at the Croatian border check point.

Regarding the flights to the US from Coatia with transit in Turkey, I don't know if you have seen it already but it was also discussed in another thread:

(I've been considering going to Croatia as well - and I also see that we are going to the same city in the US -, but I ended up choosing Mexico!)

No passports have a chip in them now, they swipe your passport at border check points. The USA will know where you have been and how long for when they view the details on your passport. You don’t need to notify anyone else.

This is why the flight cannot stop in a Schengen country as this will show on your travel history.

Turkey is ok in terms of entering the U.S but I’m not sure about their own restrictions. I know they have banned international flights for now and you would have to check if rush includes lay overs.

In terms of Mexico, yes there are always chances of added travel bans but with the land border already closed I feel less worried about the air border being closed too.

So guys, I am in Mexico City right now  Landed few hours ago, I am at my accommodation now!

I flew from Paris with AeroMexico. At the check-in they did not ask me anything about why I was going to Mexico and only checked the temperature before boarding. Flight was cool and, as flights are not full, I could take 3 seats and get some sleep (a lot of turbulence thought, scary for me who hates flying haha).
I arrived at 3am in Mexico CIty. As soon as I stepped out of the airplane they checked temperature again.

At immigration I handled my passport and the immigration form filled out and they asked me absolutely nothing (maybe because I have been in Cancun last year? I dont know). I had a whole speech ready that, thank God, I did not have to use (i was freaking out haha).

For me it worked super smoothly!
I got an apartment in Polanco, which is super cool, even gym and swimming pool are opened at the building.

I am in Mexico City until 11th, then fly to meet my fiancee in Cancun and fly from there to Salt Lake City on 18th.
I will keep you posted on the 18th.

Well, I hope my experience have given you so hope

P.S. Something that i was not expecting is the altitude sickness. Mexico City is 2.250 meters above sea level, so I had some difficulties breathing in the first few hours, it seems ok now!!

I used SendMyBag 3 times already, they are super reliable and fast   2 suitcases already arrived in US in only 3 days, the other one was send yesterday and it is on its way. I shipped 2 from Ireland and 1 from France, around 150eur each 30kgs suitcase!
  6. Thanks

Hey, new user here. First of all I just want to thank the brave people who already did this. You gave me confidence to do it too, and I already am in Cancún, so I thought of sharing my experience too, as the ones I read here helped me, I hope I can be of help for other people too.

The trip I did was from Barcelona to Amsterdam and then Mexico City through KLM, and then to Cancún through AeroMexico. I don't have enough good words for the KLM staff, they were very helpful from start to finish. On the counter they just asked me my reason for travelling, I told them that was to see my fiancée, the woman asked another one if that was ok and got the confirmation that there's no restrictions in Mexico and I was good to go. I also checked 2 big bags without an issue. There in Amsterdam they only checked my passport and let me continue to take the next flight without a problem. Both flights were super chill, on the longest one they handle a bag full of snacks and drinks plus in the middle of the flight they give you a hot meal. During the arrival to Mexico, you have to fill and handle 2 papers to the officers there, one about the coronavirus and the other classic inmigration stuff, and they also ask the reason to be there, how long are you gonna stay and thats it. Then to travel to Cancún or any other place, they ask to fill again that coronavirus form and check the body temp just in case, but after that all was good, all the flights were easy to take. The only minor problem that I had is that I forgot to grab a pen to fill out the forms, but one person from KLM gave me one when I asked, so don't forget that!

Good luck to everyone else flying soon!

Sending all my positive vibes to those traveling this week!!! You can do it!!! I was REALLY anxious as well especially because I didn’t know anyone at all who had gone through the same so it was completely unknown to me and I was crying on the plane to mexico but what helped me get through it was imagining myself get through the border and being with my S.O.! Good luck to everyone!!

I'll be flying tomorrow as well. I am starting to get pretty nervous as well. I just hope it will all be a quick and smooth experience for me and for all y'all. I'm just still mainly nervous about the fact that everybody that did get into Mexico has a K-1 visa and I have a J-1. I really hope it's not any different to the Mexican immigration 😢🤞

Fingers crossed for all of you! I can completely relate I have barely eaten for 2 days.
We all feel incredibly anxious of the unknown, but the second you all step over the border the relief will be immense!
I am sure we are all going to be just fine (but we can all bite our nails down to the bone while we wait, just in case 🤪)

Immigration for us took 5 minutes, there was no line as we were one of the first to get off the plane, however as we were leaving there was already a long line behind us from the rest of the airplane. Somebody here I believe posted before that they had a hard time in immigration and were kept there for very long.
As far as the layover goes, is the connecting flight in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, will your luggage be checked all the way through, or will you have to go through check in and security again?
We had a connecting flight next day, because as far as I understand after arriving after 8 pm via AMS, there aren’t many options for connections, our was next day at 1pm, so we stayed overnight in Airport Hilton. Next day, the longest it took for us was to take our luggage from the hotel in Terminal 1 via Aerotrain to Terminal 2, drop the luggage at check in as it was all the way at the other end. Then going through security was fast, there was hardly anyone there. They just keep checking your temperature at almost every door you go through, and you have to fill in a COVID Declaration for every flight, but otherwise we didn’t see any crowds and didn’t have to wait anywhere.
If you land at 3 am and your connecting flight is around 5-6am, I think you should be fine, I don’t see how a night flight in the airport is dangerous. Only thing is I would think probably everything will be closed so you wouldn’t be able to buy any drinks or food.

Please allow me to step in, I am using sendmybag.com to ship 2 large suitcases and it costs me around 300 bucks for the 2 of them (up to 30 kilos each). Shipping takes around 3-4 working days - they use DHL - and it’s a door-to-door delivery service

My flight is on June 8, CDG (Paris)-AMS-MEX. If you decide to go ahead with the booking, we will probably be on the same flight to Mexico!

KLM sent her an email on what to expect from the flight, masks, food, etc. I checked the flight status it is still confirmed.

Doubt they would cancel the flight. I looked up the flight route from AMS to MEX and the storm isn't in the way Thursday. For the weekend, however, it could be a problem as the plane flies over the Gulf of Mexico

This is the latest tracking of the formation of a tropical storm moving into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

I am still deliberating the same journey but more likely on 10 June. I’d be really interested to hear how your flying experience is.

We will certainly be travelling with luggage however I have drawn the line at my fiancé’s golf clubs because I think that’s just taking the p*** really 😂

    1. I believe @Smokey Bear did

    2. No one knows for sure. It could happen, it could not happen. The way I see it is they have been focusing on land borders all this time, and air travel has never been affected. Also, Mexico wants to revive their tourism industry. First for domestic tourists and then for American tourists. That gives me hope they won't expand the ban to air travel.

    (2) That's kind of what I was thinking - if they were going to, they probably would have by now!

I think I'll be attempting the LHR -> AMS -> MEX journey on the 6th. Trying to work out whether it's worth taking my luggage or getting it shipped (which will cost more, take longer, but might increase my chances!)

There are so many things to gamble! 😅  Wishing everyone luck who's attempting it this week!

Shipping only takes a few days and allows you to fly with a cheaper airline because you don't have to deal with luggage restrictions, so you'd save on flights.
