It’s not bad. My fiancé’s interview was Sept 6. They wanted a new police report and some other documents. We sent it in and arrived Sept 25. His status changed about 4 times in the last week. Went back to AP 3 days ago and this morning it’s Issued.

Sometimes they think it looks fine and then an issue comes up in background check.
no point contacting the embassy frequently but you can do it if it makes you feel better. It won’t speed up the process, it is usually not the embassy itself that is doing the AP but the department of state.
if you need your passport back you can ask for it then they will request it again when the visa is ready to be issued.
i know it’s frustrating but this is just the way it is.
