  1. I have tried numerous Google searches for NON quarantine hotels that do not house overseas workers and all I get is hotels that DO house quarantined workers and others.

My wife takes her COVID test of course before her flight and it made her very nervous at another hotel by the embassy  for her interview that had hundreds of quarantined overseas workers.

Anyone here that has stayed in a hotel that does not have quarantined people required to stay in it would be welcome.

Not yet; i.e. there isn't an effective date nor a specific enforcement process. What Biden did was to order certain federal agencies to come up with a plan: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/21/executive-order-promoting-covid-19-safety-in-domestic-and-international-travel/

The Secretary of HHS, in coordination with the Secretary of Transportation (including through the Administrator of the FAA) and the Secretary of Homeland Security (including through the Administrator of the TSA), shall promptly provide to the President, through the COVID-19 Response Coordinator, a plan for how the Secretary and other Federal Government actors could implement the policy stated in subsection (a) of this section with respect to CDC-recommended periods of self-quarantine or self-isolation after a flight to the United States from a foreign country, as he deems appropriate and consistent with applicable law.  The plan shall identify agencies’ tools and mechanisms to assist travelers in complying with such policy.

Thank you HRQX !   This will be on Feb 10th. I have a feeling this new enforcement will be in place then.

I am pretty sure authorities in Boise will let us drive immediately with ZERO stops to our home 100 miles away and then quarantine.

    Thanks again.

  3. My wife will be tested in Manila before she leaves on her flight from Manila to San Francisco.  Biden just stated upon arrival, all must quarantine. I am thinking as long as we stay in the airport we are good until we set foot in Boise.

THEN we must quarantine. Do you believe I am correct on this? We plan on driving immediately to our home north to quarantine and then be tested. Quarantining in Boise would be counter productive as we would have to leave daily for food, but EVERYTHING WE NEED is at our condo. When we arrive at our condo>>>>>we also both plan on being tested.

    What do  you think?

Take this with a grain of salt, but my mother travelled from Indonesia to Houston, with a layover in Narita for about 4 hours. There wasn’t any restrictions at all in the airport, like a regular layover. She got to Houston on 29th of December, plenty of time to celebrate New Year with us.

Thanks. I booked a ONE WAY from Manila to San Francisco for $598 instead of a connector at Narita. Evidently>>>>>only Philippine airlines offers this. At least what I found.

    Visa Stamp

You can also find your A-Number and DOS Case ID on the visa stamp (also called a visa foil) in your passport, as shown in the picture below.

    • Your A-Number is identified as the Registration Number on your visa stamp. If your A-Number is fewer than 9 digits, insert a zero after the “A” and before the first digit to create a 9-digit number. For example, “A12345678” would become “A012345678.”
    • Your DOS Case ID is identified as the IV Case Number on your visa stamp. However, please note the IV Case Number has two additional numbers at the end, such as 01 or 02. When entering the IV Case Number as the DOS Case ID, do not include the last two numbers. For example, if your IV Case Number is “ABC1234567801,” you would enter your DOS Case ID as “ABC12345678” (do not include the “01”).

    THANK YOU HRQX ! !

  6. Yeaaaa.......my wife's interview was Oct 14 and courier delivered her visa on Dec. 22. ONE WAY flight from Manila to San Francisco in Feb. Filling out the USCIS application for her Green Card. They did NOT give her  the info sheet at the embassy and nothing was attached to her visa packet as far alien "A" number and DOS ID code. I believe it is all on her visa stamp. But.....I have looked online and info seems to be old. One said 8 numbers behind the "A" one said 9 or 10. And current examples?

    Thank you.

What website are you using? I just did a quick search on flights.google.com and found this. Plenty of options for other dates too.

Excellent. I was using Priceline.Cheaptickets and Delta. Soooooo many out there.

I've used Cheaptickets for 9 years. Evidently they do not cover what I need. Thanks again.

It really seems to me that as long as she is not leaving the transit lounge she will be fine as far as Japan is concerned, it seems very clear that this is not considered “entry into Japan”. Surely there is an official Japan Covid site somewhere that you can refer to to confirm the airline information above? Or does she have to change airports and that is what makes it a problem?

I looked into direct flights and bypassing Asian airports. So far....good luck. Guam/no quarantine as long as she stays in the airport and same with Honolulu. Manila,Guam,Honolulu and LAX I believe. There may be other options besides LA. the main thing is just to get her here with ZERO quarantine. As far as I have found YET,no non-stop I have found from Manila to anywhere in USA> Not to say there is not....just haven't found them yet.

Sounds like a definite issue. Can you find another country for her to transit thru. Taiwan has been my go-to if possible, they don't seem to care about anything and let you roll thru with little issues. You have 11 weeks, so maybe come January 15th if they don't extend the travel ban ( who knows, they probably will because they will panic from the Christmas and new year jump in cases. The fear mongering by the media makes other countries think the world is ending). But, you can wait until then and see, then make the decision, or find another route.

I've been looking all morning. Japan 14 days, INC, South Korea 14 days She's worked in Dubai for 30 years but if she goes back there it's a 21 day quarantine. And according to last night from her on television Americans can't enter the Philippines now. And everything I see online Up to December 29 said Philippines was considering banning Americans so it looks like it happened. Hong Kong also 14 days. Thanks for the tip on Taiwan and I will check it out.

I just took a cursory look at extending her visa and OMG, we may have to submit another DS — 260.  They've already admitted they forgot to follow up on some items while we waited for months. Does anyone have any experience on a time line from the request of an extension on a visa and when it actually happened?

Thanks to everyone here that has been giving me good advice.

It wouldn't make sense for her to quarantine In Tokyo since shes obviously not "visiting" there and only stopping for a connecting flight.

But most of what I:read From December 28 and 29th is "upon entering Japan, all travelers must quarantine 14 days" .

So what you say makes sense, but in these days, a lot of things makes sense but don't come out that way. This is why I must study the above links I was sent and then be aware they could change daily.

  11. 20 minutes ago, SusieQQQ said:

Oh, I wouldn’t trust that method at all. These forums have a number of stories recently of people allowed to board the first leg of a flight and hit problems in the transit airport. Best to find out for sure from the proper authorities before she leaves. The pasted info you posted seems reliable.

Yes ! I am going to triple verify absolutely everything. My wife is very concerned.Imagine leaving Manila and then having to quarantine in Tokyo in a strange country where she doesn't know the language. ALONE. Our original plan was for for me to travel to the Philippines and bring her back.

I still have to verify this, but I don't believe I am allowed into the Philippines now because the United States is now on the list because of the new variant.

Here's a link to the current information. As long as she arrives from a level 2 country, she can Transit on current documents. Read all the information.

    https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/info/2020/inter/201227/

Doesn't look good for her, as CDC says they are level 4..

COVID-19 in the Philippines - COVID-19 Very High - Level 4: COVID-19 Very High - Travel Health Notices | Travelers' Health | CDC.

And us embassy gives them a level 3 currently, so she cannot enter Japan. Time to find a new flight. Or at the minimum contact the airlines.

Thank you both for the replies on this. Her medical exam was September 22, She had her interview on October 24. With all the caveats the embassy had us to prove that her ex husband had died including photos, funeral directors information, death certificate and a photo of the tombstone and him in the casket>>>>>the embassy stated that they needed to make phone calls to verify all information and 6 weeks later she got her visa packet with her visa on December 22. And the visa expires on March 22. I've got 11 weeks to get her out of there somehow/someway. And with this new variant of the virus it's even more troubling.

  13. I tried to get on the Japan forum to post but it just didn't happen so here I am. I have tried various search words to find out if my wife coming from Manila to America has to quarantine for 14 days in Japan on her connecting flight. All I keep seeing is the same thing "All visitors entering Japan must quarantine 14 days" and so on. I would think that if one stays in the terminal and took their COVID test that they could continue on but I cannot find anything definitive especially with the new variant of the virus. 90% of searches I find are from March to June of 2020.

    Thank you !

She ask s them every single day when her test will be and they say "Sorry maam....I will ask" and they never come back with an answer.

Thank you. She is currently what I call a prison. Upon entering her province 4 days ago she goes into 14 day quarantine in a stinky little tent in a basketball court with 43 other tents, all with people in them with filthy toilets. And unlike a prison where inmates get to go outside sometimes, they are held in that basketball court and can never leave that room for 14 days. And on top of that,  it is the 4th day and they still haven't given her any test rapid or swab. What's the point if they don't test anybody when they arrive? It is the worst experience of her life.

But she says the food is decent

I am so sorry to hear that :( . I  know its is hard and tough now.

I myself has 221g issue with my son, it  is quite different though and I am already sad about it, now knowing what you and your wife is dealing with is totally unfair. Pls hang in there and stay strong.

wow, I never knew that the US embassy in the Philippines would really asked stuff like that. Maybe this is one of their ways to delay the process?

Her husband has been dead for 6 years this December. I've never been so disappointed in my government. This is the only time I've asked my government to actually step up. They could have asked for all these documents 14 months ago.

But they wait until the interview and then they have to have her get them all again and then some.

I'm sure it's because of fraudulent activity by people saying their spouse was dead when they weren't to avoid those outrageous annulment charges from attorneys.

So I understand why they go there. What I don't understand is why don't they ask for what they want in all 1 sitting. Instead of us waiting months for their response and then they come back with another request.

I find this whole thing bizarre.  My wife was a widow, and all she had to provide was the death certificate.

She did come prepared with newspaper articles and a police report to the interview, but it was never requested.  The difference here I guess is that it was 9 years ago.

    Good luck

The difference is the province also And what they provide upon a person's demise. And 9 years ago is an eternity.    Things change 180° now in 2 weeks in the Philippines. My wife had a rapid test in Manilla as was required before she left to go up north. It normally takes 10 hours to 11 hours and it took 23 hours because the driver had to take ANOTHER rapid test in San Jose and wait 5 hours for the results.

And then upon entering the province, with the rapid test that's about 38 hours old, she has to quarantine for 14 days in a miserable facility with filthy toilets for 14 days no matter what the result is from another rapid test she took before she went into this quarantine. The authorities are out to squeeze every peso from every person in that country in this lockdown.

So somebody from the Embassy called your wife asking for all that documentation about her ex-husband's death. Was there any follow up email to document this?

It almost sounds like a bad joke.

Edited to add that yes: visitors to Filipino wakes do actually take pictures in front of the deceased's casket/urn. Almost like a big family reunion.

I personally always found the practice distasteful, but maybe that's what's being asked for?

I dunno, still hard to believe they are asking for photos.

Well......they are ! Obviously I believe some have taken the fraud route to avoid thousands in annulment costs. So it is what it is.
