  1. I had a different address for Social Security Card delivery on my DS260. However, since my spouse moved to a new address we need to change it to the new address. Can anyone tell me how to do so? Is there a website we can go to or a phone number that we can call on?

Also, Since I updated my mailing address while our file was at NVC, will my Greencard be delivered to the new mailing address? Thanks!

    Hello All,
My DQ was July 01, 2020, looking to the spreadsheet I am expecting the Interview to be in March or April 2021.
    I have 2 question:

    1. I got my Indian Police Check on Feb 15 2020 (which will be older than a month during my interview). Do I have to get the new one? (I have not left Canada since I got my Police check)

    2. My RCMP fingerprints were done on June 05 2020 (which will be older than 6 months during my interview). Do I have to get the new one?

Ans 1: You do not need India's Police clearance. The website says you only need new police clearance for the country that you are currently living in.

Ans 2: Assuming you will have your interview in March, you won't need new Canada Police Clearance as PCC is valid for 1 year.

Its pretty crystal clear. You do not need to get one if you haven't been to India. (Some attorneys have even gone on to argue that if have you merely visited and not taken up residence, you can still use the same PCC - but YMMV).

I have a PCC issued from SFO consulate 2 years back and havent been back to India after that and have no plans of getting a new one. Pretty much previous experience from India PCC have been the same. They did not get a new PCC, if they did not visit the country after they got their PCC.

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

    • You are more than 16 years old;
    • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
    • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

    Thank you.. This helps!

I believe if you have not been to India after the issuance of your PCC, you don't need to get one. See below quote from the consulate website. However to be 1000% sure I would suggest emailing the consulate or maybe someone in the same boat can answer better than me. Good luck!

"If you are older than 16 years of age:  The original police certificate from your country of current residence, any countries where you lived for more than 12 months, and any country where you have been arrested.  If you previously submitted a police certifciate to NVC, it is more than one (1) year old, and you still live in that country, you must obtain and bring a more recent police certificate to your visa interview as the one you previously submitted will have expired.  You can find information on when police certificates are required and how to get them on our website."

Thanks for the information.  hope everything turns out fine. I will have to mail them.

  5. My canadian police clearance got expired in december and Indian police clearance got expired yesterday. I am DQed 19 May. Looking at the trend I might get IL this month. however, the Indian PCC takes 6-8 weeks to complete, even if I apply today I am sure it wont arrive until interview. And I am not even sure about canadian PCC timeline. So my question is:

    1. Will I have to get Indian PCC, even if I haven't been to India since it expired?
    2. Is there a workaround about the pcc?
    3. Do we even have to get a new pcc, even if we are not advised to get a new one?

Hi - this won't impact your timeline at all.

If your wife is at her new address BEFORE your case leaves NVC for Montreal (i.e. before you get an interview date) simply fill out an inquiry form with NVC and provide the new address: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html You should get a-mail confirmation that you changed the address within a 2-3 weeks of sending that information.

If your wife is at her new address AFTER your case leaves NVC for Montreal. Bring proof of the new address (rental agreement/mortgage agreement with her name and address, utility bills with her name etc.) and be prepared to provide it during the interview.  You may also want to have an updated I-864 affidavit of support that reflects her new address, you might not need it but better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the information and the link. I have posted them as per your information. Hope for the best. God bless :)
