For the most part I did the I-864 on my own but I had a few questions and I was able to ask a family friend who has had experience with this. I know a notary in town, she’s been translating my documents for me since last year. She charges $45 per document. Let me know if you want her information!

Thanks! We used Catholic Charities services, they translated the documents for us in the past but we have been trying to get their help for the second part of the process and they said they would call us on Tuesday so we will see. I'll get back to you if we need the contact of your notary. Thanks again for your help! :)

  2. I have another question regarding the I-864Z.

I'm trying to add some information but the form is not allowing me to edit some fields. For example this one - I checked "I am currently employed" but I'm not being able to add the rest of the information, only the current individual annual income:

Do you know what should I do in order to edit and add the required information?

Hi, I just finished filling the DS260 and I put "no" and for the explanation I put "I WILL HAVE ALL OF MY VACCINATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION BY THE TIME OF MY EMBASSY INTERVIEW THROUGH MY VISA MEDICAL EXAM." Your spouse will have the medical exam done once he's there and you'll get all of the vaccinations straightened out then! :)

By the way, what a coincidence that we're from the same city.

    Hi,

I know! My husband lives in Stockton and I'm in Mexico. We are working on all our forms. Did you get help with the I-864? We are trying to get a lawyer/immigration agent because we think we need help with that form and also we need my civil documents translated.

    Hi,

i put in No and explained with following sentence:

' i am in process of reviewing vaccinations records and will obtain the required vaccinations on the date of the medical exam'

i also asked this question and someone answered with this sentence.

Thanks so much for your help! :)

    Spouse checked "No"

Explain:  WILL GET REQUIRED VACCINATIONS AT IMMIGRANT VISA MEDICAL EXAM.

    Thank you so much! :)

  5. Hi Guys,

I'm filing the DS 260 and I have one question. The form asks if I have documentation to establish that I have received vaccinations in accordance with US law? Should I put "yes" since by the moment of my interview I'm supposed to have all the required vaccinations? I've heard that this is part of the Medical Exams and if you don't have them they will give them to you during the exam.

Thanks in advance for your help!

NVC will request you to submit all documents if you file for expedited before, I recommend you pay all fees and upload all documents and then request for expedited that way they have everything on hand and there is no delays after. That’s how I did it 🙂

Makes sense! Thank you so much for your quick reply. We will complete the forms and upload the files and then we will try to request the expedite.

If USCIS approved and completed the expedite it would have been sent to the NVC, where you need to request an expedite there too.

    Hi Paul,

Do you know if the NVC expedite can only be requested after filing the DS-260 and I-864 and uploading all the civil documents? We just paid the fees and we are about to start working on the forms but we would like to know if we can request the expedite now or not.

    Thanks in advance!

@danielba thank you, that’s sweet of you ☺️

You’ll have to upload things like police certificate, birth and marriage certificates, divorce decrees if applicable, passport pictures, etc. The affidavit of support form and that new public charge form I-944 I think it’s called.

Also: the letter was once upon a time. It’s all electronic now (for IOE cases) I believe. People have been getting an email from NVC pretty fast after the I-130 approval. I’m sure you’ll get your case number email from NVC today or Monday. Look out for it - also in the spam folder in case you don’t get anything.

Thank you! We will be waiting for the NVC electronic letter.

Please keep me posted! I'm pretty sure you will receive your approval soon :)

We haven’t been approved yet either 😔

PD October 7th, transfer from Nebraska to Texas. Tier 2 told hubby that we’re in line for review a month ago and nothing happened yet! Hoping that the out of normal processing times inquiry we submitted last week will help! 🙏🏻

Happy for all October-Filers that have been approved so far! 🎉🥳

@B&C2017I'm pretty sure you will receive your approval soon. I think the inquiry helps a lot. Stay positive :)

Does anyone knows what's next? I know we have to wait for the NVC letter and then we will need to pay the fees but do you know what documents we will need to upload?

My case is not out of normal time! I was originally Nebraska, then was transferred to Vermont! So I’m not sure what are the updates for, but I’m thinking we might have the same person working on our cases and they going through the process which means they are working them. What center is yours? And did you get transferred?

No, I've never been transferred. My case has always been at Texas Service Center.

    Hi Danielba

Thank you so much for sharing - we actually just submitted an outside normal processing time inquiry on Saturday - for this exact reason 😃

The mail we got says to expect an answer until May 31st, so I guess we‘ll see what happens.

Good luck to you guys! I sure hope we‘ll get our cases approved soon. It makes me sad to see so many approved after us (and I think we‘re a pretty straight forward case. Married over two years and two kids) 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm pretty sure you will get your approval soon :) I know it's hard to wait but we have to stay positive.

  12. Hi All,

My PD is October 7th and my case is at Texas Service Center. I chatted with an agent and she told me I should have an answer by now and since my case is out of of the normal processing time, she would send an email to the Texas USCIS office and I should have an answer withing the next 30 days.

    @B&C2017

I wanted to share this with you because I know we have the same PD and I thought that maybe you would like to try this.

I'll keep you all posted. I hope we have an answer soon.

Tax guy is wrong! It is illegal to file single when you’re married (See IRS page). Your marital status for the tax year is whatever is your marital status is as of December 31st of the year you’re filing.

    Lawyer is partially right.
He can either file “married filing separate” (probably makes the most sense in your case. This does not require you to get an ITIN but he can’t list you as a dependent either since you don’t have a SSN) or “married filing jointly”, which would require an ITIN (a little late to get that now as it takes some time) and would make your mexican income subject to US tax. Although your foreign earned income under 105’900 USD (changes each year but currently it’s 105’900 for 2019) can be excluded (you need to file a form for that exclusion of your mexican income though) but still needs to be listed.

    https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/foreign-earned-income-exclusion

Also once you file jointly, this needs to be done for 3 years (not 100% sure if it’s 3 years) in a row I think and can not just be changed back and forth every year.

I recommend married filing separate. Might be a little less deductions than filing separate but less of a mess with requesting ITIN, filing your income as well and file the exclusion part for your income.

Thanks! This information has been super helpful. Thanks again!
