I'd suggest you give the district court that administered your oath a call and see if they can find your name change court order in their system. If they don't then chances are USCIS screwed up like they did with me.

Just a quick update from me, I received an email from the field office last Thursday after the new service request was raised. They told me that they will go ahead and mail me the name change petition. I just got the sealed name change petition in the mail today and was pleasantly surprised by the quick turnaround. Hopefully you get yours soon.

I got my name change. After going in circles with the courts and immigration they told me I just had to wait but didn’t give me an indication on how long to wait before I could look into it again.
luckily I received it in the mail and now I can start the last steps of getting a passport, changing SS etc.
Thanks for letting me know about your process!

Just a quick update. I got a call from USCIS National Benefits Center regarding the service request I had raised. The agent I was speaking to informed me that apparently someone at the Field Office screwed up where they had created my name change process but never submitted it to the judge to get it signed, hence why the district court couldn't find a record of my name change order. Also the agent also mentioned that the first service request that I had raised was sent to the National Benefits Center and not the field office which is where it ought to have been sent to to begin with. Man dealing with this much incompetence even after supposedly being done with the process is frustrating to say the least. So now I have to wait for another 30 days for this second service request to be processed and get some response from the field office. Hopefully they don't screw this up again this time around.

I have a funny feeling mine is the same way. I’m going to try go to the field office and speak to someone.
Incredibly frustrating to deal with yet another delay. I hope you get yours sorted quicker than expected.

I had my oath ceremony on 16th June as well in Minneapolis and had opted for name change and was sworn in by a judge in person. I was only issued the naturalization certificate which had my new name and have yet to receive my name change petition document. I've called the district court where I had the oath ceremony and they can't find the name change court order in their system. Been frustrating to say the least and here I was thinking we were finally done with USCIS but guess we've got one more hurdle to deal with. I called USCIS a few weeks back and they raised a service request with a response deadline on July 8th which is tomorrow, I'll wait to see if I get any feedback. @Cali23 were you told that it would be mailed?

Let me know if you get an update. I wasn’t sure if I needed to call the courts or USCIS.

We had our ceremony in the immigration office and not the court so the judge wasn’t there in person. We were told that they were signing off on all the name changes and we’d get the letter mailed out within two weeks.

It’s so frustrating to keep having delays.

  4. Has anyone been waiting for their name change to go through because of the new procedures in place right now?
I had my naturalisation ceremony on 16th June 2020 and the judge was on a Zoom call with us.
We were told that anyone doing a name change would have to wait for the judge to sign off of them and we’d receive a letter within two weeks.
It’s been three weeks now and I haven’t received anything. I can’t change my social security, register to vote, get a passport etc until I get the letter.
Just wanted to see if there were others waiting the same length or is it an error with my case. Or if anyone knew the best person/place to call to get information on the status?

  5. I’m now a US citizen! I had my oath this morning in Vegas.
The ceremony wasn’t that good because of Covid. We couldn’t have anyone with us and had a judge recite the oath through a live feed. It was 15 minutes long and then we were handed our certs and left the building.
No speeches, no saying what countries were represented, no cheering, no photos etc.

It’s over with and I’m happy about that but it doesn’t feel like a big day.

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear that!  No, they never scheduled ours and I'm guessing it won't happen for quite some time now either.  Hoping the world is able to get through this in shorter amount of time than expected.  Fingers crossed.

Yeah it was very frustrating. I had to call at 4pm last Friday to confirm because I hadn’t heard anything. So I was less than 24hrs from being a citizen.
Gotta see what happens from here, I just hope I don’t have issues because my green card expires in June. I can’t imagine they’d prevent from taking the oath after this.

Cali23, did you end up having your Oath Ceremony this week?  I've been wondering, with all of the Coronavirus changes this week, if they were still holding the ceremonies.

No it was cancelled. I don’t know what or how long the process will be from here.
Did you end up getting a date set before all this happened? Hopefully we’re not waiting until the end of the year to have everything finalised.

  8. Just got my date for the oath ceremony and of course it’s for when I’m out of town. I’m panicking about rescheduling it but I don’t know what to do. I know it says to send back the letter with a written reply but does anyone know if they have a phone number I can call? I don’t know if I’m wasting their time calling but just want to see if it’ll be an issue or not.

Congrats!!!  Hopefully this means that ours is coming soon as well since we are the ones from Las Vegas that filed a week ahead of you!  (And I hope it's not that we haven't gotten ours yet because something is wrong!)  :)   So nice to think that the end of this long process is in sight and my husband will finally be a citizen! Woo!

I hope you hear soon! I would have assumed you’d received your notice before me. I still don’t have the letter online so not certain on the date yet. Frustrating that Vegas is moving slow so we have to wait for all steps. Congrats to your husband!

I know, and I have all my things needed and know all the questions. I have no reason to think I'll be denied so I shouldn't be nervous. Thank you though, I'm excited it's finally here as well!

Well I passed! The IO had visited where I’m from so he was talking to me about that a lot. Definitely helped my nerves. Started off with the 6 questions:

How many amendments to the Constitution?

What did Susan B Anthony do?

What month do we vote for president?

Who is Governor of my state?

What’s the last day to file federal tax returns?

    Name two US holidays?

    I had to read:

What is the capital of the United States

    And write:

    Columbus Day is in October.

Then it was a lot of the questions that I filled out in my initial application to verify and reconfirm I was telling the truth. I wanted to drop my middle name so he confirmed my new legal name with me. Then he asked me what promises I would be making when I took the oath and explained a little about that process.
Finally I received the letter from him saying he recommended me for approval and to wait for the date of ceremony.

My boyfriend came and surprised me as I was walking in the door so I did cry my eyes out for a few minutes 😁

But I’m so happy to have that part done with and now just wait for the final step.

You should do just fine - it's not that hard as we all (who already passed) thought  it would, really :)

    Good luck to you today!!!!!

Congrats on the notice! Doesn't it feel great to finally get to this last stage?

I was also worried that my interview would fall on one of the six days I'll be out of the country, but it was scheduled for two days before I have to leave. I guess I'll just take my oath after I come back.

I looked at the timelines for N400 applications at my field office and saw that their interviews are exactly 5 weeks (34/35 days) after the notice gets sent out. And that ended up being true for my interview date as well.

It’s so nice to be here! Gotta start studying again but I’m not too worried about it. There should be no reason they don’t approve me.
Now just gotta wait the day or two for the actual date and go from there.
I guess you’re my exit buddy for this ride lol.

Woke up to an online update that my interview has been scheduled. I hope they upload the letter soon so I can see the date.

My I-751 is still pending; I will call and message them and hope someone can confirm that it will be a combo interview.

(Boston field office, filed in early May under the 3 year rule)

I just got my notice that the interview has been scheduled too!

I was expecting one soon because Cbaker284 filed a couple of days before me from Vegas and they had their interview scheduled last week. Now just need to cross my fingers it’s not during the 3 days I’m out of town in December 😩

    Interview De-scheduled!!! =(

I got a letter in the mail saying "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel your appointment."

I'm guessing they hadnt scheduled a combo interview and when my query trickled down to their office finally they realized their mistake and now have to reschedule with an agent who can do a combo. At least we didn't waste our time in that case...

So back to waiting for an interview.

That's a pity. Hopefully not a long wait again though.
