  1. Well..my nerves are shot..anxiety has taken over...and I'm sure Pete's feeling the same..lol. But..finally, after 8 months..we can be together forever!! :dance::dance:

I'm picking him up from Cleveland tomorrow evening...but his P.O.E. is Newark.

Anyone have any last minute pointers about the P.O.E.??

OH...and I know we've got to apply for the social security card..but what else after that?....and as far as us being able to eventually travel back to the UK...when does that happen..I know we will have to get him another passport ..right?

Sorry for all the questions...lol

  2. All they told Pete at the final window was:

    Fingerprint time again.....and

    1. How have you kept in contact

    2. How many times have you been to the U.S.

    then...

    Welcome to America!!

He was quite gobsmacked. After all these months of gathering evidence..and sorting things out...that was it! lol

  3. Unfortunately, the US Government is a bit behind on Healthcare. This has been a major issue when it comes to politics. We do have some great doctors, equipment, and medicines...but when it comes to providing healthcare for the people, well..needless to say, this country fails. The government here does not supply medical insurance to everyone. There are certain standards: such as a disability, being totally disabled, living in poverty, families with children under the age of 16 who are perhaps living below the poverty level...etc.

Most employers offer medical insurance, of course, you pay for it out of each pay. There is also a co-pay when you visit a doctor usually as well (usually about $10-30 dollars--depending on what type of insurance you have). I know since I am working, I am just going to add Pete to my insurance once he comes over and we are wed.

  4. ok, I just asked him what level he completed at and he said he finished his standards? He said he wasn't required to go onto highers so he left. Obviously no college degree on his end but I still don't know where him finishing his standards puts him at grade level wise here.

In England, I know the standars would be through high school. They only attend up til age 16, then it's off to college. Tell him just to prepare a CV (this is what they call a resume) listing his schools and previous employment. If he would be able to obtain by mail, fax, or email a transcript of his school grades, then that may help him out as well. Oh, yeah, and be sure to tell him.....Alba Gu Brath!! lol ;) (my ancestors were from Scotland..what can I say..lol)

  5. Hi everyone. My fiance just got his visa in the post this past week. He hasn't even got here as yet. Wedding is tentatively set for February 16th, 2008.

I am a mother to a 10 year old and a 7 year old. My fiance has an 18 year old son (he will be 19 in January). (I'm 31 and my fiance is 42) His son has been in college in the UK, and wants to come over to find work here in the states. I know since he is unmarried, and under the age of 21, it would be a bit quicker of a process...but could someone please explain to me....or tell me where to start?? I told my fiance, I don't mind being a friend..I don't expect him to call me "mummy" or anything like that...but I do expect respect...especially in my own home. Any comments, suggestions, and help would be appreciated :) Thanks!

  6. I would say a tourist visa, yes. As with the regular passports, you are only allowed to stay 3 months at a time in the country, then you must return to your own country...not sure for how long though. They maybe just never said anything to her up until now because she is older....there's alway's one person that has to ruin it..lol. :P But, unfortunately, she would have to go to London to see the consulate there about the tourist visa. My suggestion would be to check out the London Embassy website also, to see what information she could possibly get off of there/ and/or fill out ahead of time.

  7. There is Knightsbridge and another place in London that you must go to. These are the only two places that will do the medical for the visa. They don't want you going to your own GP, as they are afraid of the GP's being paid off to fill in the papers wrong. lol.... There is a paper you will fill out there. You will also have to go get visa pics taken. All of this will be explained in the packet 3 when you get that.

They will give you the information in the packet about what number to call for the interview, etc.

  8. Pete and I were just approved. Although most embassy's will ask different questions (all they wanted of Pete was his affadavit of support and his birth certificate)..asked him how we have kept in touch and how many times he's been here. THAT'S IT!

I sent a copy of the receipt for the ring (he purchased it over here), also pictures of us together over the past few years, copies of telephone bills, emails, cards and letters. If you follow the VJ K-1 Visa Guide under the Guides section, you can't go wrong ;)

    Best of Luck to you!

    Corissa

  9. So Pete and I have been discussing what to do about his flight over. (He got his VISA in the post today!!!!) We were pricing tickets on Continental ...and everywhere else....and round trip flights seem to be cheaper than one way tickets. Has anyone ever bought a round trip ticket and just cancelled their flight back...telling them you have a Visa and are staying??? Or will they even let you do that??? Just a question...
  10. Hello! All I can tell you is that when Pete ordered his Police Certificate, he sent it out at the end of July...and received it back the beginning of September...so, yep..pretty close to 40 days is the standard time frame unfortunately.
  11.:dance::dance: Just received a text off Pete...he said "I'm coming home to you!" Hehehe..I'm so happy at the moment..had to come in to tell everyone here (as my family is still asleep I'm sure..lol):dance::dance:

April filers....You are next if you haven't been approved as yet....

Everyone else...KEEP THE FAITH!! It's a long, hard journey...but in the end..it is so worth the wait!!

  12. I just got a text from Pete...He said "I'm coming home to you"!!!! He's been approved...and of course this was my first stop...just had to come in here to tell everyone...and to say thanks to everyone for all their continued support!! We're not going anywhere though! We love VJ too much! lol...:dance::dance:
  13. Fat people are rude and the meanest when it comes to fast food lines lol. Drop a cheeseburger on the ground and they come running for it lol. :jest:

I am sorry was this supposed to be funny?

Why is it o.k. to make fun of fat people but not anybody else and people just accept it?

Hun, my best friend...who is a male...and happens to be a BBW Lover...put it best...Being fat is the only discrimination that is still (SADLY) tolerated in this world.

I could sit here and say something about a certain race, or talk about a certain racist group, and I would be considered a racist...and probably be called everyname in the book (And believe me...I am not a racist...I equally hate everyone...hehe...j/k)....

But seriuosly if someone says something about someone that is overweight...it seems to be ok...because everyone has this image of a size 0 Hollywood model type. Sorry...I'd rather be fat and healthy any day than have bulemia or be anorexic. (which I am healthy btw....just had my physical to prove it...suppose my days of lifting weights and playing American football helped...lol)

Thing is... some people cannot help it...it could be because of a medical condition. Other people are just lazy and choose not to do anything but sit on the couch eating McD's and watching repeat episodes of The Simpsons. No one should be judged or discriminated against becaue of an outward appearance..See thing is...when you make fun of someone...or judge someone....let's just say....Karma has a way of coming back and biting one in the bum two fold.... whether it be with you or someone you love

  14. ROSEMARIE!!! CONGRATULATIONS on your approval!!!!

Thanks everyone!! I'm texting Pete as he lies in a London hotel...lol. His dad went to sleep already :P He's just so excited, and can't believe that all this waiting is about to be over! Then, our real life can begin :) We are actually hoping to have him here the day before Thanksgiving :)
