Thanks for sharing all your experiences. It seems much of the trouble discussed here is occurring during check-in on departing flights. This was the same experience for me departing Spain for Croatia with a layover in Frankfurt. We are hoping for a smooth flight and layover from Croatia to Serbia to JFK in NY next week.

What day is your flight next week?

So unfortunately I wasn’t able to take my plane to Cancun today. I booked with VOLARIS and they said I can’t get on the plane without a health certificate. Obviously I did not have one and I also wasn’t informed by the airline. They still refused to give me a refund. I asked, if I could get a certificate somewhere close by or at the airport. They said no, well yes, but don’t go it’s a really dangerous area. So I was like ####### man. They said they could change my ticket, but I would only be allowed to fly in 14 days from now. Like wth. I didn’t feel safe at the airport to be honest, I didn’t feel good at all. Loads of flights were shown as cancelled. So I just felt like this was a sign from god, and I decided to go back to my safe and amazing hotel in Santa Fe. Luckily they still had my old room available and even gave me a free upgrade so I saved a bit of money for the stay. I tried to cancel my booking for the hotel in Cancun, but I’ll see if they accept it. I even had a friend translate all the emails I received from the airline in the last couple of days!! Nothing prepared me for this experience. Plus the people do not speak English very well, And everyone at the airport was wearing face shields and such. So if you plan on traveling with VOLARIS make sure to get a health certificate and bring a translator. They also couldn’t tell me if there is another airline, which takes passengers without a certificate. The people at the information were no help at all. So I’m back in Santa Fe. But that’s ok, I love this hotel and everyone is extremely helpful and nice!!

Wow, that totally sucks but good for you for rolling with it and being flexible. And thanks for warning others! 👍

The Turkish airline flight that landed in JFK was probably only a cargo flight. Turkish airlines has suspended all of their flights at least until July. I recommend to not book with them. I talked to a tourist agency in my home town today and they told me that noone actually knows what's going on with Turkish Airlines, but they are not reliable. Apparently they gave away a lot of their airplanes for financial reasons and that is why they keep suspending their flights. I called Turkish Airlines twice last week to book a flight with them, and both times they confirmed that all of the flights in June listed on their website will take place. I am glad that I didn't book with them.

Ohhhh...a cargo flight...I didn't think of that. Thanks for the info. Yeah, I think if a commercial flight had actually gone, there would be evidence of it in the news. Thanks!

So weird, when I check on Turkish Airlines, I cannot see any flights to the US for June

Yeah, this whole flight checking system is completely inconsistent as a whole. How is anyone supposed to know what is actually happening?? I don't even know if there is a way for me to speak to anyone at JFK who could personally verify that that flight even landed...🤷‍♀️

Yeah I called them yesterday they say the plan is to start flying the 10th and keep it going. They see no cancellations ahead on that route.

Wow. I'm still so confused about Turkey. I just read in Forbes yesterday that Turkish Airlines plans to resume international flights to European destinations only, from June 18. No mention of flying to the USA...

I agree, your fiancee should seriously consider the Mexico option if at all possible. Look through my previous posts for advice on how to do that (and read about how much of a disappointment today was for me)

Hi--yeah, I read about what you went through today and that's just unbelievable. How completely disheartening for you.

Believe me, I've tried to convince my fiance to go the Mexico route but he was having none of it. "Risk taker" is the last description I would ever use for him. 🙃 And at this point he would need to be there by June 7, and that's impossible for him given what he needs to take care of before moving.

when is your flight? do you guys think mexico is still safe since there are so many COVID cases. We are not sure if Croatia is safer, but mexico definitely has more flights going to the US

Croatia is a very safe place for tourists across the board. But at this moment in time, there is no way to get from Croatia to the US without transferring through Schengen area or UK, which makes it a non-option.

Be careful about that. All their flights are suspended, just on Wednesday they extended that until June 10, they may extend that again like many others do. Plus you don’t know if they will allow any foreigners even for transit, many countries don’t. Just because you can get the tickets online doesn’t mean you can also fly and if the flight is cancelled you’ll be stuck without a ticket, without a way to fly and without your money.

There are no plans right now for Turkish Airlines to resume flights to the US. Turkey does plan to resume international flights on June 10 (that date could obviously be pushed out yet again), but as of right now, the US is not one of the countries that TA will fly to, to start.

"Starting in June, Turkish Airlines looks to fly to 19 countries: Canada, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Belarus, Israel, Kuwait, Georgia and Lebanon."

I assume anyone in Europe outside the countries listed in the ban have to go through somewhere like Turkey

I've had my eye on Turkish Airlines and hoped that it might have been an option for my fiance to get to the US before June 21. But no...Turkish Airlines just pushed out their date to resume commercial flights, and the US is NOT on the list of countries that they plan to fly to in June. :(

I had seen some direct flights with Turkish Airlines but I have just double checked and all of them go through Istanbul. Which is weird because like you said, the US is not part of the 19 countries where they plan to resume flights for now.

I was probably tired and my brain decided to “see” what he wanted ☹️

Apologies for the confusion, will pay attention to that next time!

No worries! There is so much information flying around these days that it is so easy to get mixed up now and then!

    Hello!

For those who have been contemplating Croatia to then fly to the US, I have found some info on the website of the US Embassy in Zagreb. Apparently the entrance restriction is currently in effect through June 15 but "If you need to transit through or travel to Croatia, please send an email to the Croatian Ministry of Interior Border Police at uzg.covid@mup.hr to learn whether you are eligible to enter Croatia."

Additionally, "If you are permitted entry, any foreign nationals, including U.S. citizens, traveling to Croatia may be ordered to self-isolate or spend 14 days in official government quarantine facilities. Placement in quarantine is at the expense of the traveler."

    https://hr.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information-2/

Saw some direct flights to Florida (and other with a layover in Istanbul) from the Zagreb airport as of beginning of June. I am going to send them an email just to check if they would allow EU nationals with valid US visas enter, stay there 14 days as per the quarantine guidelines, and then fly to the US. I will keep you posted!

You saw a direct flight from Zagreb to Florida? 😮 On what airline?

Regarding Turkey, I don't know what the deal is. I see international flights posted for Turkish Airlines after May 28, but then I read that Turkey plans to re-start air travel to 19 countries, and the US is NOT one of those 19 countries. So I'm thoroughly confused.

What we have found is the approved visas by posts and visa class

this is the site for NIV nonimmigrant and K1 falls in this catergory

BTW no stats since March 2020

Thanks. Yeah, I was interested in who is entering from where since coronavirus stuff in mid-March.😕

    No, as per DHS https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/faq

Does the restriction also apply to passengers who transited through a Schengen Member State, but did not enter it?

Yes. The Proclamation applies to all travelers, except for those who are exempt, who have been physically present within a Schengen Area country within 14 days of travel to the United States. Physical presence includes transiting through a Schengen country.

    😔

  14. I just read this info on Frankfurt Airport's website about passport control within the airport...It says that if you are coming from a non-Schengen country and are continuing to a non-Schengen country that passports are not checked, so it seems that that should be a "safe" travel option in the eyes of US CBP, no? If your passport wasn't checked, you weren't there, right?

Yes that is what i meant, so from China, Schengen etc you can not travel even if you have a valid status, but from all other countries you can, which makes no sense. because why should it be allowed from other countries....for people that have tourist visas like B1 or so but not for someone who actually lives ther

By the way, is Puerto Rico an option. I havent seen any travel restrictions in place. Or would they have the same as the US?

Ok, sorry, just woke up and am prone to half-asleep freakouts...:)

yes people can definitely travel from other countries that are not china, uk, israel, schengen.. which is ridiculous, but visa holders cannot, I mean how is this fair

Wait, what?? My understanding was that visa holders from everywhere EXCEPT China, Iran, Schengen area, UK, and Ireland are allowed to enter the US now. Was I completely wrong in thinking that?
