  1. Missouri "pre-process" cases. Presumably they are the ones who make the decision whether or not your case goes to interview or CSC transfer as well. Local offices and CSC make the "final decision".

So who is scheduling the biometric appointments? Missouri?

Our AO (in Pittsburgh) told us all biometrics and interviews are scheduled by 'a dumb computer'.

    His exact words. I swear.

That's awesome, haha! At least some of those guys have a sense of humor!

  2. Hi Everyone,

I applied for AOS May 1 and I didn't apply for AP at that time. I went for an Infopass appointment this morning and was told that I am stuck in background checks (booooo!). So...before the fees go up I am applying for AP. I have a few questions about the application form because the guides on VJ don't clearly address it, and I am confused! I hope someone can help :)

    1. I don't have a date of intended departure or expected length of trip. Can I just put TBD in those two fields?

    2. Since I am applying for AP, do I leave from Part 3 section 4 all the way to Part 7 BLANK? It seems like a lot to be left blank!

    3. It asks in Part 7 to explain how I qualify for AP. How does someone with AOS pending qualify? Also, I was just going to put down that I would like to visit my family at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and my huband and I would like to go on a Honeymoon. Is that considered the appropriate circumstances to warrant a multiple-trip AP? The instructions are sooo vague!!

    4. Do I leave Part 7 sections 2 and 3 blank?

As for supporting evidence, this is what I was going to send. Please let me know if I have forgotten anything:

    - Copy of Biographic Page of passport

    - Copy of K1 Visa

    - Copy of front & back of I-94

    - Copy of marriage certificate

    - Copy of NOA from AOS

    - 2 passport style photographs

    - $170 fee

One more thing- has anyone ever had trouble getting back into the U.S. when using AP? I am pretty nervous about it!!

Thanks SO MUCH in advance for your help.

  3. Hey everyone!

Just got back from a very productive Infopass session. I had to wait quite a while, but the IO was very very nice and he was pretty honest with us. He told us that it was hard for him to judge how long our case was going to take because it was sent to CSC, but he recommended to apply for EAD because our background checks were still pending. He made it clear that there is no way to tell how long the background checks would take- it could take a while because I have a common first and last name. Anyway, bottom line was, he shared a fair amount of information and was honest with us about what he would advise to do.

I think we're going to send off EAD and AP applications this afternoon...

  4. Marry your best friend.

Marry because you genuinely love each other and really want to spend the rest of your life together.

Marry someone with whom you really enjoy spending time, and with whom you can have a great laugh.

    Have things in common.

    Do things together.

Spend at least an hour in day, laying in bed together, awake, talking, tickling, laughing, joking - make it your time together.

    Talk.

    Listen.

    Appreciate.

Give from the heart, and unconditionally - love, attention, praise, commitment, faithfulness, truthfulness.

    Trust.

Hug and kiss each other for absolutely no reason.

Love this!! I totally agree :)

  5. Good luck Jashley...but that is not so bad.

We haven't had a touch since 5/31 and I know there is a potential problem w/ the EAD - but we didn't receive an RFE for either one. I doubt the AOS has a problem.

However,...if it makes you feel better.

We made an appt for next week due to the error on the EAD application.

    Bora Bora,

I know you're frustrated with your lack of activity, and I hope and pray that you hear something soon. However, I think it's fair to say that this thread was created to offer support for everyone who filed in May, regardless of the current status of their case. I don't think it's unreasonable for me to vent my frustration. For the record, It does make me feel better.

I'll use discretion in my future posts to avoid offending you further.

Best of luck at your infopass- or better yet - I hope your EAD comes soon.

  6. Despite previous posts, I wouldn't recommend sending one cheque for all fees. I would send seperate cheques (indicating what form it pertains to in the 'memo' section) in case they have to return a form for some reason (i.e. missed signature). If you've sent them one cheque, then the whole package gets returned. It's a bit more of a pain than if you just got one form back.

The AOS fee of $325 and the biometric fee can be on written on one check according to the government websites instructions for the 485. The rest of the checks should be written seperately.

Exactly what I meant! Thanx for the Biometric clarification.

  7. HI, ITS ME AGAIN. I JUST WANNA ASK IF I CAN SEND MY EAD FIRST THEN TO FOLLOW THE AOS? IF EVER IM GONNA SEND THAT EAD, WHERE WILL I SEND WILL THAT BE THAT ADDDRESS ABOVE U SENT ME? HOPE TO HEAR FROM U. THANKS. TAKE CARE.

    LOVE,

    ESTER AND NICK

You came to the U.S. on a K1? If so, then no, you are not eligible to apply for EAD until you have fulfilled the terms of the visa (got married within the 90 day period) and have an AOS application pending. Typically people send the EAD application (I-765) in the same packet as the AOS application (I-485). Your eligibility for the EAD is due to the fact that you have an AOS application pending.

Some POE's may give an interim 90-day work authorization stamp when you enter the U.S. as a K1, but I believe only JFK airport does this now. Regardless, it's only valid for as long as your K1 is valid, so it's pretty much useless.

Read the guides for K1 AOS...it will make things much clearer!!

  9. Can some one give me some advice,I am finishing my Lily's AOS package for filing

and on my list its asking for the I-693 or the I-693A form. My Fiance(now wife) came over on a K-1 visa, would someone

be so kind to help clear my clouds. Any help would be wonderful :help:

    Thanks

    Paul & Lily

    Hi There Paul & Lily,

Because your wife came over on a K1, she should have had a medical exam done in her home country prior to having the visa granted. If this was less than 1 year ago, then all your wife has to do is get a Civil Surgeon to fill out the I-693A form and seal it in an envelope. They will either use her vaccination form 3025 (I think that's what it's called) that was given to her when she had her medical done, or she can do what I did and simply take her personal vaccination records to the Civil Surgeon to transcribe onto the form.

You can locate a Civil Surgeon in your area by going to the USCIS website. The link is also on VJ many, many times, so maybe just search for "Civil Surgeon Finder" and it will come up in the search results.

Edit: here is the link to the finder on USCIS: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of...office_type=CIV

You will see in the instructions in the I-485 that K1's with a medical exam that is less than 1 year old ONLY have to fill out the vaccination supplement (I-693A). When you call around to the Surgeon's offices to make the appointment, they will likely tell you that you need a whole new medical exam. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM! Keep calling until you find a CS that will fill out the I-693A only.

    A couple of more things:

Do not open the sealed envelope that the CS gives you- it must stay sealed when you submit it in your package. Ask the CS for a copy for your records.

Also- if you're unable to find a CS that will only do the I-693A, there is a CS in Austin, TX that will do it by mail for $10. Search "Austin Civil Surgeon" here on VJ and you will find his address and phone number. You can call them to find out what to do.

  11. anybody knows why they ask for 4 copies of this particular form?

They don't ask for 4 copies, its just that the form has 4 pages, which are all (mostly) identical!

In reality given the USA's love of things in "Triplicate" the whole one white, one pink and one yellow thing, I'm surprised that G325-A is the only form like this.

You should take a quick look at the instructions for the forms: usually it says that you should put any additional information on a blank piece of paper with your name, date of birth, and A# at the top for identification purposes. I just want to make sure you know to put that information at the top if you do supplement the G-325!

  12. This might be a stupid comment, but I just want to make sure:

You're going to take the signed marriage license and have it registered with the appropriate authorities directly after the ceremony, then send in the certificate they give you? I know some people get confused between the marriage license (what you obtain before the marriage & sign along with the officiant) and the marriage certificate (the certified copy that is registered by the county and given to you afterward).

I just don't want to see you get an RFE- or have your marriage not be registered properly. I am sure you know exactly what you're doing though!!

P.S....Good luck on your AOS process :)

  13. Congratulations, winner.

I would, however, like to draw your attention to this post and to the member journeyhelper's AOS timeline.

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry1031165

It seems to me like this situation (AOS filed more than 27 months ago) more appropriately merits the declaration of FINALLY.

I wanted to point out the inappropriateness of this thread given others' timelines- thanks Rebeccajo for doing it.

  14. Apologies in advance as this may appear to be a silly question ...I have K1 visa and have plans in place to enter US later this month - due to the timing of the wedding ( 7 days after arrival) i suspect I will have to apply for my SSN in my married name?...

Thinking further ahead - i am wondering if i need to keep all the K1 evidence...did anyone actually need to re present it at any time? - ( I know birth certificate marriage divorce etc is needed but i am refering to boarding passes - greetings cards - phone bills) I suspect not but i just want to make sure - many thanks for your patience and understanding

I think you should keep it on hand, because it could be helpful in an interview to show the progression of your relationship. When you're filing for AOS, the emphasis should be on providing evidence of a bonafide marriage. This entails things like joint leases/mortgage, joint credit cards, showing as beneficiary on life insurance, joint medical insurance, mail coming addressed to both of you, gym memberships, Costco memberships, Blockbuster memberships, etc... be sure to take as many photos of your wedding as possible, and also remember to regularly take pictures together after you're married. Additional evidence could be congradulatory cards/gifts from the wedding. if you do a search here on VJ, I am sure you'll find many more ideas. This topic has been discussed at length.

    Good luck!

  15. Let me start by saying I love my mother dearly, however she is about to drive me stark raving bonkers!

As I have said before we are about to embark on a journey home for the first time in 4 years. DH can't get time off work but the boy and I are on summer break so we thought we'd jaunt on over and visit the olds etc.. Nothing major a week maybe seeing as I still babysit I can't be gone too long. Straight forward enough right? Not where my mother is concerned apparently. She has already booked a trip to Hong Kong during our stay and to top it she booked herself on a cruise for 5 days the week before the trip to HK!

I figured being the extra 5 days when she isn't even in the country was a bit of a waste so I suggested I arrive when she gets back off her cruise. Make sense right seeing as I didn't really want to visit anyone else in particular, my sisters and brothers are all away as well as the rest of the family she is going on the cruise with. Her answer to that being....NO! She wanted me to house sit while she was gone! :sigh: I've tried explaining to her I can't be gone for 2 weeks anyways because it would mean the poor babies would have to goto another sitter for almost 2.5 weeks the way the traveling works out. Plus I didn't even want to be there for that long! Please lord give me strength!

Ah, that's just crazy! Are you still going to go? Good luck with everything!

P.S. Where in Cincy are you? How long have you been in the U.S.? I officially made the move at the end of March!
