  1. Congratulations on the interview date!!!

Someone tell me im worried for no reasons please, I know letters ( NOA) are more official than website updates but since there is no change in my status im starting to wonder if they really transfered my case to CSC.......

Hey Mephys, I wouldn't worry! My case took 12 days between getting the 'transfer' e-mail to when I got the 'pending' e-mail. I believe most people wait around 15 days or so. I wouldn't worry just yet ;).

Plus, you know CSC's having some problems with their systems anyway, so it might be delayed due to that.

  2. I'm so glad to have stumbled on this thread too!

I know I'm a shy person, but I'm always friendly to the people I meet. I've been here since September and I haven't made a single person I'd call a "friend" yet. Lots of "friendly acquaintances" though...

I chat with my co-workers at work, but we don't socialize outside of work. It could be that I'm the youngest there and we don't have too many things in common :(

I've done volunteer work, but everyone were seniors who have retired. I've taken a Spanish course, but again, they were all many years older than I am and although we'd make good chit-chat in class, we don't have enough in common to socialize outside of the classroom setting.

As for my husband and my in-laws.. they have a very small circle of friends, so it's not that easy finding someone who's compatible with me (geez, I sound as though I'm trying to find a new romantic partner! Compatibility... haha).

Like some of you, I find myself spending a lot of time keeping in touch with my old friends in Canada. Good friendships are hard to find and keep, so I think the effort is well worth it even though I can't see my friends physically.

On that note... anyone in Petaluma, CA, and want to be my friend?

I think making new friends totally depends on compatibility! Well, if anyone's come across some kind of an activity or venue where they've made some friends, do share!

Good idea echomyst- we're all on here writing about how we can't meet people, but there are a ton of people on this site! With that said, is there anyone in Cincinnati that wants to get together for coffee? :)

  3. Like others said, your Canadian credit info won't transfer here.

In my case, I first had my name added to my husband's credit card, but I don't think that helps in building your credit history.

I had an HSBC bank account back in Canada, so decided to open up one here in the U.S. too. A few months after opening a joint bank account with my husband, I asked about getting a credit card through HSBC, thinking that I'd be declined (because at the time, I had no Green Card, no EAD, no job, ... nada). To my surprise, my banker told me that I'm approved for a credit card with a $7000 limit!! I was in complete shock, but hey, I was able to start building my credit here! So, ask everywhere, including your bank... you never know if you don't ask.

Yep, you're right- just adding your name to your husband's card won't build credit UNLESS you give them your SSN number too. If they don't take it down, ask them if they need it.

  4. Hi There,

I need to file my husbands 751 before August 8th. Could someone please email me at neat1s@hotmail.com and explain the steps to me and all required information. I have the application form, all our bills in both names, copies of driver's licenses, copies of property papers purchased together, pictures, lease paperwork, etc. Thanks in advance.

    neat1s

I am pretty sure you'd get complete information from the guides. Click on the tab at the top and look for the one for removing conditions!

  5. I am so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I have been putting more energy towards keeping in touch with my friends in Canada than making friends here!! I find it really hard as well. People at the gym don't want to talk because they're focused on their workouts, people who you make small talk with in the store just think you're weird....sigh....

A lot of you mention that you have nothing to say...I truly think that you can lose your ability to be social. I used to be a social butterfly in university, and I never had a hard time making conversation with someone. Now, I dread going into social situations (even get scared!) because I am not sure how I can relate to them and make conversation. I am convinced that if I was around people my own age more often, I wouldn't have so much trouble.

Anyway, I am not quite sure how to make new friends...maybe join a book club, go out for walks and meet neighbors, etc....at least we all know that we're not alone in this problem!

    Good luck :)

  6. Well...I held onto my Canadian credit cards as I have a much lower interest rate of 6 & 8 %

no way am I giving those cards up! Just keep signing my maiden name and I have my

    BC Licence for picture ID.

I to am trying to establish credit...Maceys dept store gave me their Credit Card.

I gave them my Canadian SIN and they accepted my application and gave me a card,

even though I am not working! Amazing!

The thing with giving them your Canadian SIN is that it won't do anything to build your credit in the U.S.....maybe after a few months you should call and give them your SSN. The SSN is THE key to building/demolishing credit in the US of A, unfortunately!

  7. Hi there,

I would call around to CS's that are within reasonable driving distance- I had the same problem but I finally found one who knew what he was talking about.

If you still have problems, you can mail your vaccination records to a CS in Austin, TX who does it for $10. You can call and talk to them about the details. I know many people on VJ have had this CS do their I-693A. Here's the address and phone number:

    Dr. L.E. Arnold

    4534 Westgate Blvd., #106

    Austin, Texas 78745

    Tel: (512)444-3131

  8. Hi everyone

I sent my aos/ead package off last week and hopefully will receive my first noa soon.Assuming all goes well, and i get my ead, apply for a ssn..i want to finally be able to start establishing credit here, with a credit card etc- just curious if anyone knows for sure what happens with my canadian credit? I have closed off all accounts and anything financial related there, but when applying for a credit card here will they pull my canadian credit info? (my credit there isn't horrible but not the best) or do i get to start fresh here? I have tried googling on this subject but can't find anything concrete on the matter.

Regardless,it will be nice to be independant again! I'm so tired of needing my husband to put everything in his name, phone billrental cars,etc....and to be able to work finally! I know most people here came on a type of visa where they were probably able to work right way,but for me it's been a long time and will (assuming) be another 3 months or so until the ead comes. It will be a major adjustment going back into the work world again..well i'm rambling but if anyone knows about the credit transfer issue, please let me know,

    Thanks!

I totally understand where you're coming from....I've been off work for more than a year now, and it's starting to get a bit rediculous!

Just to let you know- there are no ties whatsoever between Canada and U.S. in terms of credit, especially if you changed your name when you got married. I have my SSN in my married name, and I've already tried to open some accounts/credit cards and I have been denied due to non-existent credit. I almost feel like I don't have an identity here! I had my SSN added to my husband's AMEX, so I hope that helps the credit situation. You should do the same!

    Good luck!

  9. I got a pink letter asking for my W-2s, I'm assuming that was an RFE? Anyway, I mailed them in but it didn't mention anything about needing that vaccination addendum or whatever it is that K-1s need.... We expected them to ask for it and then we'd go to the doctor they told us and have it done.

Is it possible that we're not going to need it or do you think they may send us another RFE?

I think there's always the possibility for an RFE, but I'd relax for now!

  10. My I-94 stapled into my passport was torn off at the dotted line at my last POE. My passport only contains my visa, and this green strip of the remaining I-94, which just says "See Other Side" and "Staple Here" On the bottom. Is there some other place my I-94 number should be located?

The only place the I-94 number would be is on the white paper that was torn off. Why did they remove it? I am not sure what to do about the missing number- you might have to file to get a replacement. I'm sure someone else will comment more about this momentarily.

I would suggest you start with the USCIS 800 number. They might be able to help you track down the number on the I-94. You will need that when applying for adjustment of status. Generally, there is an "A" number assigned with the I-94 which would become your alien registration number.

Sorry, I can offer more help.

I am not sure, but I don't think that the 'mis-information' line can do anything about your I-94.

Also, I don't think that they assign you an A # when you get the I-94. I believe the A# is only issued by the USCIS when someone files for an immigrant/non-immigrant visa.

  11. I don't get the touching privileges too, since our 129F! :D So I guess I have to get used to it already, but I am watching out for the touch when it would say "interview cancelled".

Wait a minute, does that show in the online portfolio at USCIS website?

I don't think it does! When I read people posting about it, they always say that they've received a letter in the mail de-scheduling the appointment. I don't think the online case status even states when you have an interview issued to you!

  12. Okay I'm holding hope still everyone... The mail person just might bring my approval notice today... my fingures are crossed.... cross yours for me!! :pop:

If it's not here today I will probably assume it wasn'ted printed as the press release talked about... than I will wait for them to e-mail me back

Good luck Jimmy!!! Let us know how it goes...

You must have late mail delivery too...mine doesn't come until 5pm most days and I go stir-crazy waiting for it!
