We are in the same boat. No update since fingerprint fee was received. We filed April 17th and received our NOA April 19th. We have an MSC case number and every time we have called they just blame Covid for the delay.

When you initially applied there should have been an I-485 for the principal applicant and all family members PLUS I-864 and I-944 for each person. It seems redundant but it is how you minimize delays for yourself and for the officer assigned to your case. If you only submitted one copy for the principal applicant and they just happen to misplace it, it will further delay the process because they will have to contact you to resend in the missing paperwork.

Once you receive the EAD, try again for a card. He does not need an SSN to get a license and until he has the EAD, he cannot work in any case. Once you are married you can add him to your health insurance, as it is a qualifying event and they can use a place holder number. We used all 9s for my wife until she received her card.

We did marry right away and have submitted all his paperwork for AoS and EAD. It is just frustrating that we requested his SSN prior to the shut down and they are now using it as an excuse to not fix their mistakes as everything has to be done in person.

My fiance, now husband, entered on 2/12/2020 and we applied for his SSN on 2/24/2020. He was told it would be about 4 weeks until he received his card. I called at the 4 week mark and was given the run around on his case. Checked SAVE and it gives a generic message stating the case was sent back to SSA blah blah blah. I called them weekly and no one was able to give me any updates other than they were waiting for DHS. Fast forward to today and he received a letter stating they cannot issue his SSN due to DHS unable to verify the immigrant document submitted (I'm assuming his I-94). With the shut down we are going to be SOL as his I-94 expires on May 11, 2020 and I don't see them reopening their offices this week and we are too close to the 2 week mark for them to issue. Has anyone else gone through this issue and have any resolution? This COVID-19 pandemic has added on more stress and anxiety to this process. Thanks in advance!

Have you checked out the guides on this forum for the AOS checklist? Although it hasn't been updated to include the I-944 it came in handy for when my husband and I were getting ready to send in his I-485, I-765, I-944, and I-864. If we hadn't checked we would have gotten rejected because when we submitted his birth certificate to the Embassy in France it didn't need to have a certified translation while for the I-485 we had to include it. Regarding his credit score--we printed out the transunion page that showed he didn't have a credit score here as part of our evidence (I'm fully prepared to get an RFE for this but in some cases USCIS has accepted it as proof). We mailed it in on 4/14/20 and received NOA1 on 4/17/20

My fiance, now husband, applied on February 24 for his SSN. He was told by the SSA officer that it would be about a month, checked SAVE and status has changed to "returned to Maryland SSA...", called local SSA where we applied and was told they won't be issuing new SSN due to the COVID shutdown. I'm a bit confused as some people who applied after us have received their cards. What are my options since SSA offices are closed?

In all honesty without @Greenbaum I would still be in the same shoes as you. The government, any government, works at their own pace and nothing in the world will make them work any faster than that.
Trust the process. Respect the process. My fiancé and I applied in September of 2018. We received the holy grail of updates today “issued”. Without this forum and the admins, I’d be bald and possibly in a mental institution somewhere.
You are dealing with a lot of legal matters so you can’t expect it to be done instantaneously. Breathe. If you followed the instructions and provided everything they need to process your case, give them the respect to do so.interview date was 1/22/20

It’s comical you ask because by now you should know they will never give a clear explanation as to why there is a delay. It’s part of their background checks and like I stated every case is different. My fiancé dated a flight attendant previously and him flying 18 times internationally in a year may have played a part in why they did an extensive check on our case. It depends on the country, his background, my background, the fact that I was also an immigrant to the US that could have caused the delay. Others have an easier case so they go through the system faster—mine was just an unusual circumstance.

Every case is different and I don’t mean to put a damper on things but our case was stuck at the NVC for AP before being forwarded to embassy—about 12 weeks if I remember correctly. Our case was a rare frustration as it took 18 months from start to finish. My fiancé just had his interview 1/22/20–we filed our I-129 in 9/16/18 just to give you some perspective.

We have been in AP since May 16th. No status updates except “At NVC”. I call every 2 weeks to get the same response: “under AP with no time frame of when it will be done”
so back to the waiting game.

Have you tried calling them? They issued my case number just 3 days after they received it. Hope you get an update soon!

You will need to go the https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ to check your status. You’ll check under immigrant visa and you will need your case number.

Thank you @Greenbaum for your constant reassurance and guidance. It’s alarming for me since they’ve received our case from USCIS back in May. However from following a few French timelines it seems as if they’ve been shipping to France every other month. I could be wrong but that’s what it seems like. Now the website says they are currently working on cases received June 25 so now I’m worried since ours have been there since May 16.

Ceac still shows the same status. I assume since everyone else is getting their in transit and mine still says at NVC that’s where it is.

For those who received an updated “in transit” status when was your case sent to NVC. I’m a little concerned because our status has been “AT NVC” since the day I called to get my case number over a month ago. Due to high volume calls I’m never able to get through to an agent.

So far, the K visa is an non-immigrant visa and applicants have to get their Case Number from the NVC after the I-129F Approval and complete the DS-160 form online and later pay the fees (either at the Embassy/Consulate or when your schedule a interview in the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service online)
So, @PTRF triple check the options you're following to choose and do the right ones.

I submitted the DS-160. I could have sworn on the form it asked for an invoice number on one of the steps. I could be wrong. 🤷♀️

I went to ceac.state.gov and checked my status. I then went to travel.state.gov to follow instructions and first step was choose an agent. When I tried that it said I needed an invoice number along with the case number. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

I called NVC and received my invoice # since I stupidly forgot to ask the first time I called. Filled out the DS-160 application today so hopefully this gets the process moving again.
Case received 5 months ago, still no biometrics appointment?

April 15th was our receipt date.
I sent in an inquiry this morning and will keep calling until we get an answer.
